What if Cody and Ken had the same interests in the theatre? For example, Cody as a playwright and Ken as a theatrical director?

Theatre nerds Cody and Ken? I didn't know I needed this until just now.

Theatre Buffs Cody and Ken

Ken is a MASTER of directing--he somehow always manages to bring Cody's exact vision to life

Cody, meanwhile, is a master of dialogue and comedy--nobody expected it from him, but they all think his plays are brilliant

They work together to make sure the actors have the comedic timing down and that the person in charge of costumes gets it down to a science

They go to plays together to study up on different writing and directing techniques, because that is what true artists do

Ken is usually the first to read Cody's drafts, because if he can't figure out how to direct it, it might need editing

They both have entire plays memorized that are not their own, mostly Shakespeare, and they like throwing the punny lines at each other as a way of bantering

Everyone around them gets really confused when they both go into Theatre Mode--it's kind of like they go into another world

Wormmon and Armadillomon are their biggest fans by far

I really hate to ask, but you've been coming into my askbox for a while--would it be too much to ask for a "hello" or a "please"? I just feel sort of unmotivated to write if I'm not greeted first and sometimes I feel like I'm just a pack mule or a machine for these headcanons. :(

What will it be like if Davis and Yolei experienced their first DNA-Digivolution together?

The thing is that Jogress isn’t a means, but an end. The exact mechanics behind it aren’t really well-known on a technical level, and its use in 02 was rather metaphorical. Jogress happened as a result of relationship development. On top of that, I personally object to oversimplifying the meaning of the concept; I think it’s too easy to put it as “it’s for your single best friend” or “it’s for the person you’re closest with” as if relationships exist on some kind of Linear Scale of Closeness. (After all, I just wrote a post about the differing ways you can have a relationship with someone and what kind of differing niches they can fill in your life.) Obviously, not being someone involved on the writing of 02, I can’t tell you what their intention was on what Jogress meant, but there are generally some patterns that happened between the three that happened in the series. To make the evolutionary metaphor work best (evolution as a metaphor for human growth), you can possibly understand it as “two people help each other find what they need most to grow”.

So you have Daisuke getting very much to the point of what Ken needed to move on from his past, and Ken helping provide the sense of purpose and companionship needed for Daisuke to start asserting himself instead of seeking shallow sources of validation; Miyako reaching out to Hikari through her emotional closed-in-ness that she’d been stuck in for 31 episodes (that’s not even getting into the fact the problem dated back to Adventure; I cannot emphasize enough how incredible Miyako’s accomplishment was), and Hikari’s kindness and understanding allowing Miyako to channel her aggressiveness as a strength instead of being harsh on herself over it; Iori going out of his way to figure out Takeru beyond his surface demeanor and helping him come to terms with his anger, and Takeru helping Iori open up from his stubborn adherence to impractical principles.

Thus, if you want to examine Jogress in a context outside those three pairs, you need to examine what the relevant two characters are “missing” or what’s holding them back, and how they would be able to help each other overcome that. Is Miyako capable of addressing or filling in something that Daisuke is lacking, and vice versa? (That “vice versa” is very important.) Once that question is answered, it’s much easier to imagine the rest following.

What if Tai and Sora spent their first time alone together and shared their first kiss?

Me, writing an entire drabble out of this because this didn't seem headcanons-y enough? No. Maybe.

Below the cut!

First Kiss

Tai stared down at his hands, firmly in his lap, and tried not to look to his right. Why oh why had his mother and father decided now was the time to go take Kari to the doctor?

In passing, Tai had mentioned that Kari was sick, and Sora had promised to come over and visit her. He hadn't realized she would actually do it, even though he knew Sora well enough to know that of course she would, this was Sora, but still!

Of course, the moment Sora visited, his parents decided to leave so they could take Kari to the doctor and make sure she was alright. Now they were alone, and boy, was it awkward. Of course, he'd been alone with Sora before, but not alone alone. Not like this. Not at all like this. What did one do when left alone like this with a girl like Sora?

"So, um," Sora began, and Tai glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. "I hope Kari's going to be okay."

"I hope so, too. She gets sick pretty often, but not like this." Tai scratched the back of his head, his worry for his sister outweighing his panic at being alone with Sora. "But I think she'll be okay. She's a tough one."

"It's sweet how worried you are about her. You're a good big brother, Tai." Sora smiled at him, and he tried to fight the blush that rose to his face. She let out a giggle, so she definitely noticed the redness. Please let a hole open up and swallow me.

"W-well, she's my sister. Of course I'm going to be worried about her. She means the world to me."

Sora leaned closer. "And you're a better brother for it."

"I-I am?" he stammered, trying not to lean back as she leaned closer. Alarm bells went off in his head. Something was happening here, and he wasn't sure how he felt about it.

"Yeah. It's one of the things I admire most about you, Tai."

"You admire me?" His voice didn't just crack, did it?

"Yup."

At that moment, she closed the distance and pressed her lips to his.

The child in him wanted to move away, but the part of him that had always felt so warm around Sora didn't want to. So he listened to the latter, closing his eyes and trying not to tense up awkwardly. And when she moved away, blinking open her eyes to stare at him, he could do little more than give her a really stupid smile. "Uh..."

She stood up really fast, holding her hands fast to her sides. "I should go. See you at school, Tai."

Like the wind, she took off, and Tai was left sitting there wondering if he'd done something wrong. Did my breath stink?

He would be pondering this for at least a few hours afterward.

What will it be like if Tai/Sora and Matt/Mimi experienced DNA Digivolution?

It was at this moment, dear reader, Gen realized she really needs to rewatch the DNA Digivolution arc in 02.

Different DNA Digivolutions Pt. 3

Tai/Sora

Because Tai and Sora, there's most certainly an argument involved, but it's not over some miscommunication or petty teenage things or what have you. It's probably a friendship-hinging sort of argument, and pretty much the entire group is tense because of it

So they go into the fight not looking at each other, thinking everything is fine, but everybody else is taken down, Birdramon and Greymon are struggling to stand, and Sora is nearly hit with something, so Tai dives over and shoves her out of the way

Tai is down because he took the brunt of the attack, and Sora calls him an idiot (because he is), and he tells her something sappy because this is Digimon, and BOOM DNA Digivolving

Their combo Digi is a phoenix T-rex thing? Or just a rad dino with flaming wings and headcrest thing, and FRANKLY I want a figurine of that

Matt/Mimi

Okay, I know a lot of people ship these two, AND THAT IS VALID, but oh boy I cannot think of any extraneous direct interactions they had in the series (I was staring at Tai most of the time 😔), BUT WAIT, this is exactly what their DNA Digivolution hinges on

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they have these complete weird perceptions of each other, so they talk to each other and misunderstanding ensues because they have the totally wrong ideas about each other, so now they're just at a loss and wondering why exactly they're friends

SO of course a fight happens and Mimi notices Matt being really worried about Gabumon and Matt sees Mimi tending to an exhausted Togemon, and suddenly it clicks that they totally got the wrong ideas, and BAM!

A plant wolf is terrifying, so let's just say an Ent (Treebeard ftw) mixed with like the Weregarurumon type of stuff, and that's what their combo looks like

What if Cody and Ken bonded with each other and become close friends?

LET CODY AND KEN BE FRIENDS LET CODY AND KEN BE FRIENDS

Sorry, I just *sniffle* really want the boys to be friends.

Since this is similar to previously done bonding/friendship headcanons, these will be formatted as such.

Cody and Ken Bonding/Friendship

A lot of their bonding was unspoken, and a lot of it had to do with Davis and Yolei

By this I mean that the two of them would start arguing, and Cody and Ken would exchange the “so it’s this again” look that every friend in their position masters at some point

Of course, it was still rather awkward for the two of them to spend any sort of alone time together considering Cody’s former grudge against Ken and the whole Digimon Emperor thing

The Christmas party Ken hosted made it a little less awkward, thank goodness, but as with Joe and T.K., their age difference made it sort of awkward

So let’s say that they were sort of thrust into a situation where it was just the two of them, like... Ken was hanging out at either T.K. or Yolei’s place, Cody came over, and the third person left the room

As it turned out, they actually really liked the same types of shows on TV--CRIME SHOWS

They were so animated in their discussion, T.K./Yolei came back and left again to give them more time to talk

There were other interests they shared, of course, including caring about their friends, but crime shows was where it was at for them

They started setting up marathon times for their favorite ones, and the rest of the gang legit teared up when they heard the news (they were so proud of Ken-chan and his progress)

Before they knew it, they were really close, and so it made sense that they were practically a team later in life when Ken became a detective and Cody a lawyer

Don’t tell anyone but they became a pair of screaming fanboys when this happened “WE’RE LIKE LAW AND ORDER WE’RE LIKE LAW AND ORDER”

But yes, they indeed became quite close and were able to jointly handle the antics of their best friends following this bonding of epic proportions

What will it be like if Taiora (Tai and Sora), Mimato (Matt and Mimi), Takari (T.K. and Kari), and Daiyako (Davis and Yolei) are canon shippings?

I assume you mean at the same time? I’m also not terribly sure how to do “what if this ship was canon” because canon is such a weird concept to everyone, but I can try my best ^^” also out of those I’m only really hardcore about Takari, so---

Taiora + Mimato + Takari + Daiyako (At the Same Time)

Tai and Matt suggested a double date but it didn’t work because they argued over the movie

(Tai wanted to see the Lego one and Matt said no, obviously the movie about opposing dance teams was better)

The girls wondered whatever happened to chick flicks

Sora and Mimi sometimes interrupt T.K. and Kari’s bonding moments to ask advice on how to deal with their brothers

T.K. and Kari keep having to find new hiding places so they can hold hands in peace

At first, Yolei was embarrassed to tell everyone that she’s dating Davis, mostly because he had just gotten banned from Joe’s apartment (but then, so was she) and she hadn’t FULLY come to terms with her own feelings

But then Davis gave her one of his dumb smiles and she just melted

Davis became such a yes man--ever seen the meme where the BF goes to get stuff for when a girl’s on her period and there’s the “it’s uterUS” option? Yes. That’s Davis. He is so supportive and god, do I love him for it. What a good egg.

Frankly, T.K. and Tai are also very “uterUS” but that’s not surprising. Matt is just trying his best. Also he keeps eating all the chocolate.

Like the older ones, T.K./Kari tried a double date with Davis/Yolei, but T.K. and Davis ended up arguing (it was very one-sided because T.K.’s great at comebacks) so they never did it again

Tai and Matt keep coming to T.K. to ask how to be cool boyfriends like he is, because as I’ve said numerous times, T.K. can speak Girl much better than I can

Tai and Sora are pretty openly affectionate, but that’s mostly on Tai’s side. He just likes hugging her with one arm when she passes by or giving her a huge grin, and it always works on her. She’s very open about the fact that they’re together and pretends not to notice when that one classmate who has a crush on him keeps bursting into tears when she sees them together. (It’s me. I’m classmate. LMAO.)

Matt is a bit quieter about it, despite Mimi telling ANYONE who will listen (and those who won’t) that she’s with a major hottie--a distinction that makes him blush and suppress a smirk. He’s not much for PDA, but he does slip her little notes with song lyrics on them to make sure she knows he cares. Then she hugs him in the hallway and he’s blushing all over again. He’s still a little scared that it won’t work out, so he really tries his best to make her happy.

Everyone knows that T.K. and Kari are together because, well... it’s them. They don’t even need to be open about it. T.K. still winks at her from across the room or will, occasionally, magnanimously give her a flower in a very princely manner (just for kicks and giggles), but Kari doesn’t mind. Much. They’re more openly affectionate on dates more than anything. And they try to pretend they don’t notice their brothers out on dates at the same time as them by “coincidence.”

Davis and Yolei are a handful. They’re always arguing, and then they’re seen holding hands while blushing, and then he’s hugging her. Someone asked him once what he’s doing with a nerd (because people are dumb) and he went, “Um, have you seen her? She’s literally the coolest girl in the world.” Yolei nearly cried but didn’t and just kissed his cheek. Blushing Davis is adorable, by the way.

Oh, and this seems important: Joe was the one to threaten Tai to be good to Sora because he’s Dad and she’s Mom (DigiParent solidarity); Kari very quietly told Sora not to break Tai’s heart (rip canon Sora in that case LMAO); T.K. told Matt not to mess up with Mimi; nobody talked to Mimi because it was very clear she’s loyal to Matt; the brothers of course talked to T.K. and Kari together (because the last thing they need is more feuding over something); everyone told Davis to think before he acts; and Ken gently told Yolei to be careful with Davis’s heart

The others are quite happy for the four couples, although Cody occasionally suffers from earsplitting screams because Davis or Yolei is always raving about how adorable the other one is to him

Izzy suffers the same fate but with Tai, and he really only puts up with it because Tai’s willing to water the plants while babbling

What if Davis stayed behind with Yolei to took care of Hawkmon, developed a romantic bond with each other, and shared their first kiss?

So I stand by previous headcanons in that Davis is not that smooth

Hawkmon wasn't even that hurt, he was mostly winded, and he kept saying "TIS BUT A FLESH WOUND" (okay, it was a little deep)

Yolei was perfectly fine staying back to patch up the poor birdie all by herself

And then Davis was like, "OH NO HAWKMON'S CLEARLY BROKEN SOMETHING YOU MIGHT NEED HELP"

(Kari and T.K. exchange a look like, "Is he serious right now")

Yolei is just like "Okay....?" because you reach a point where you decide questioning Davis is not the right course of action in any universe

Now, I'm operating under the assumption that they had realized their crushes on the other and had basically been dancing around the subject because sometimes the Digital World comes first

So they're tending to Hawkmon, who wants nothing more than to leave them alone because there's clearly something going on here

And both their hearts are racing because they're kind of really close together and did Davis just scoot closer?

Finally, Hawkmon makes up some crappy excuse like "I HEAR MY MOMMYMON CALLING BYEEEEE" and flies away

Yolei considers this a betrayal for years to come

They're walking back to the portal or whatever they used to get there in the first place, and they're laughing over something (probably some lame joke Davis made)

Then they're kinda staring at each other

And suddenly they kind of realize neither of them has talked for the last few minutes

And they're leaning closer OwO

And closer OwO

And then they kiss

And then they're staring some more and just turn around really fast while blushing really hard

They think they're home free until they get back to the human world and T.K. and Kari are waiting for them with evil smirks on their faces

"SOOOOOOOOO how's Hawkmon????"

Note to Davis: Don't be so obvious next time
