Kazusada Higuchi vs. Kota Umeda, DNA19, August 6, 2016

It’s time to see what the hype about Kazusada Higuchi is all about, and if I happen to also learn about Kota Umeda, all the better. 

The pre-match video makes it clear that Higuchi and Umeda have a long history together in DNA, and despite the size difference, it feels like an even match between the two. Higuchi’s offense is simple, but effective: powerful chops rock Umeda, and he even busts out the Oklahoma Stampede. I like the way Higuchi projects himself during the match; his mannerisms and frequent grunting matches his raw power, even if he’s not the most graceful wrestler. He makes a fine base for Umeda’s offense, which isn’t exactly convincing. And that’s a very nice lariat from Higuchi. 

Umeda’s rush of offense is fun, but it’s not as fun as Higuchi’s release German suplex or his sumo tackle. His finisher is pretty funky. I can see Higuchi’s potential, but it needs more seasoning to put it all together.
