Lash of Punishing Weapon (flail), legendary (requires attunement)
This dark weapon is stained with the blood of innocents and no amount of cleaning or magic can remove the weapon’s stained past. The Lash of Punishing was once wielded by a powerful priest who saw injustice and evil everywhere he looked. He became obsessed with ridding the world of all evil, even if he was the only one who saw it.
The Lash of Punishing grants you a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Due to the innate corruption in the weapon, it deals necrotic damage instead of bludgeoning damage. This damage overcomes resistance and still deals half damage to creature immune to necrotic damage.
Guilty Conscience: The flail also has 5 charges. You can choose to expend a charge when you make a successful melee attack with the flail. When you do so, your target must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw as every misdeed the target has ever committed flashes through their mind. The target then takes 5d8 psychic damage, or half as much on a successful save.
The flail regains 1 charge whenever it is used to deal the killing blow on a creature. If you expend all 5 charges, roll a d20. On a 1, the flail becomes nonmagical as all the darkness tied to it enters your mind. Every time you finish a long rest roll a d20, on a 1-5 you gain the following trait for 24 hours:
Burden of Guilt: Whenever you commit an immoral act, even something as small as telling a lie, you are wracked with terrible guilt. You immediately take 1d8 psychic damage and must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, you are stunned for 1 minute as guilt overwhelms you.
This effect can only be ended by casting remove curse on hallowed ground or with wish.
