kireth the kobold pirate thief was my very first D&D character,,, it was a good campaign. I drew him a lot, if you couldn't tell heh

Kireth's backstory:

Like most kobolds, Kireth was hatched underground in a kobold lair, into a tribe that was already overcrowded. As Kireth matured, he grew increasingly claustrophobic, and took every opportunity he could to escape the walls of the cavern. Within 4 years, the population of the lair reached its breaking point and the tribe split into several factions. In the ensuing chaos, Kireth took the opportunity to disappear for good, escaping into the nearby waterfront port city.

Well aware of the social stigma against kobolds, he kept to the shadows, developing his thieving skills even farther than he had already been taught in his childhood. Kireth soon realized that despite his aversion to his overcrowded tribe, his newly solitary lifestyle conflicted with his natural desire to exist in a large social group. One evening, in an act of carelessness, he was discovered and chased into a nearby tavern. As luck would have it, the locally revered pirate Captain D'Arktayan and his crew were grabbing a pint at that moment. Spotting Kireth, D'Arktayan quickly stood and aggressed his pursuers, defending Kireth by pretending that he was a part of his crew. After the incident, D'Arktayan offered Kireth a formal position as a part of his crew. With nothing to lose, Kireth accepted.

Having abandoned the kobold lifestyle at such a young age, Kireth was much more accepting of other humanoids than most kobolds, and quickly grew close to his crew. He enjoyed the fast-paced and exciting lifestyle of a pirate, and being the smallest and fastest on the crew, he was often sent as reconnaissance or to breach their target's defenses before the rest of the crew would strike. He never forgot Captain D'Arktayan's kindness on the day that they met.

For 8 long years, that crew acted as Kireth's effective family, and it was during this time that Kireth developed his skills into what they are today. However, all good things must come to an end. One terrible day, during a raging storm, the ship was destroyed. Amidst the chaos, Kireth first thought that the ship had been damaged by the storm, until he spotted magic streaks arcing against the sky, coming from another ship in the distance. In the illumination from the lightning and the magic, Kireth could just make out the symbol on the enemy ship's sail.

Kireth doesn't know how he survived that night. But when he finally half-washed, half-dragged-himself ashore, there was no doubt in his mind that the rest of his crew had perished. With the symbol burning in his mind, he vowed to take revenge.

A full year later, Kireth had gotten no closer to discovering the group behind the attack, or even the origin of the symbol. Longing for a semblance of his old life back, he found himself in a random town's adventurer guild, looking to be contracted.
