Most fans of modern hip hop will know Detroit native Elzhi, if not from his extensive back catalogue, his artistic rendition of the undeniable classic, ‘Illmatic’ by Nas. Since the release of this creative cover record back in 2011, it was thought that Elzhi had put his rap career on hold for the foreseeable future. Elzhi supposedly battled with many personal demons whilst on hiatus, which ultimately has helped to shape and influence his first full length in five years due for release later this month. Check out what I personally believe to be the strongest track released in the build up to the album launch, the heartfelt and retrospective track February, through the link above.

Can’t believe I completely missed this massive track from rising NY rapper Bodega Bamz, with a guest spot from fellow New York artists Flatbush Zombies. Bamz has been building a loyal and ever growing fan base since launching his career back in 2011, and this track solidifies the undeniable talent that this guy possesses. I will be keeping a closer on this guy in the future. DNTSLP.

Brooklyn, NY born rapper Dyme-A-Duzin makes further waves in the hip-hop scene with this dark, atmospheric track, moving away from his often more upbeat jazz infused releases in previous years. Since signing with Warner Bros Records back in 2012, Dyme has shown no signs of slowing down, and has worked with some of the most talented artists in the game right now such as Casey Veggies, the Pro Era collective and Flatbush Zombies to name a few. Although racking up a fair amount of plays since this track dropped in March of last year, I only recently heard this banger from Big Mont. The Peekskill, NY based rapper has a real old school feel about him with the way he rhymes, and I’m not just saying that because of the Nas sample used as the hook in the beat. I’m stoked to be able to watch Mont progress from this early point in his career, and look forward to seeing what else he can accomplish. Check it out at the link above.

Toronto based artist Jazz Cartier dropped this chill track back at the start of last month, and I’m absolutely loving the atmosphere the song provides. From what I can find Jazz hasn’t got a massive back catalogue to sift through, but if his releases to date are anything to go on, I’m super looking forward to hearing what else this guy has for the rest of the world to hear. Although gaining some serious popularity since the release of his debut record “Suffolk County” in the June of last year, I myself only recently stumbled upon Boston, PA’s Cousin Stizz, and I’m pretty stoked that I did. He spits with an almost effortless flow over heavily produced, spacey beats and the combination works flawlessly. Check out the single “No Bells” through the link attached, the hook will be stuck in your head for hours. DNTSLP.

San Antonio, TX based rapper WhyJae has seen a fair amount of hype following the release of his “Timeless” mixtape back in 2014, and yesterday dropped another track showcasing his undeniable talent as an emcee. This dude could hit the big time sooner than he realises with tracks as strong as this, have a listen and see if you agree. DNTSLP.

Old school vibes from the heart of New York City, Loaf Muzik are an upcoming collective set for world domination. They aim to bring back the golden age of East coast hip-hop with a mix of mellow and jazzy beats comparable to those used by predecessors such as Nas or The Notorious B.I.G, blended with a new school feel in the way they deliver their rhymes, making them more accessible to modern audiences. These dudes have not not stopped dropping bombs since their formation and show no signs of slowing down, so you better jump on the hype whilst you still can. DNTSLP.
