So after chaotic discussions in a Fire Emblem chat it has been raised that we need Claude as a disney princess.
WinterShock mini-prompt: Darcy's singing brings Bucky out of a trigger moment. (Best I can come up with atm luv. Good luck!)
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I adore this original song/lullaby and I need to share it so THIS is the song that Darcy is singing at him.
~~~
Darcy wasn’t really sure what tipped her off.
She just…knew.
Like a voice on the wind, a whisper in her ear, a tingle down her spine…just something shifted in the air, and Darcy knew before anyone else.
One moment, Bucky had been with her at the Team Bonding BBQ and the next he had just….stopped.
It wasn’t even like he had been moving before, or doing anything different than he had been before that moment. Bucky had placed himself at the back of the gathering, shoulders to the wall, all entrances and exits, and people in sight. He was holding a plate of food he had watched be made by Steve on the grill from start to finish and had been enjoying himself.
She’d seen him laugh one or twice thanks to Sam, talk with Tony, and Nat, smirk at Steve, and Thor, roll his eyes at Clint and calm Bruce down, and just generally bond with the team and everyone. She’d even caught him listening with a glint of awe in his eyes as Janey talked his ears off about the stars, and space.
So she wasn’t really sure what had set him off.
But she knew without anyone having to say a word, before even the Super Spies had noticed, that Bucky wasn’t Bucky anymore. She could pinpoint the exact second that Winter showed up.
And while most people would run when the Soldier came out, would feel an ice cold terror grip their bones, Darcy had never been most people.
It was why she had stayed with Jane even after Space Gods, Metal Death Bots, Evil Space Elves, and everything in between. It was why she now worked in Avengers Tower as the PR manager for the Avengers, including Bucky, why she worked as The Big Three (Jane, Tony, and Bruce) Handler.
So when she spotted the Soldier at the back of the group, agitated and dangerous- flashback?- she didn’t even hesitate.
Bucky had told her hundreds of times that her voice calmed him down. That he loved her. That Winter loved her. That she soothed even him.
Darcy worked her way to Bucky’s side, ignoring the tense line of his shoulders and the way icy eyes darted around the room in narrowed predator focus. She kept her movements smooth and slow as she leaned against the wall beside him, just out of arms reach and yet close enough for what she planned.
She’d been humming as she approached him, and even though she saw no recognition in his eyes yet, Bucky-Winter- still tilted his head in her direction and made no hostile movements.
As she settled against the wall, she watched him out of her peripheral vision and allowed her low, sultry voice- Bucky had told her she had one of those low crooning voices he’d find in a lounge back in the 40s- to begin singing the words to the song she’d been humming.
It was on old lullaby that Darcy remembered her grandma singing to her when she was smaller, a song that Darcy sang for Bucky whenever he woke up from his night terrors. When he woke up with his heart in his throat, clawing for air and something- anything- steady to hold onto.
“Wandering child of the earth, do you know just how much you’re worth? You have walked this path since your birth- you were destined for more.
There are those who’ll tell you you’re wrong, they will try to to silence your song, but right here is where you belong….”
His eyes focused on her with razor sharp intensity, but he made no other movement. Darcy continued to sing, not looking directly his way as she let her voice croon the words to the lullaby.
“So don’t search anymore You are the dawn of a new day that’s waking. A masterpiece still in the making. The blue in an ocean of grey.
You are right where you need to be. Poised to inspire and to succeed. You’ll look back and you’ll realize one day”
Darcy allowed her lips to curl slightly as she watched Winter’s soldiers loosen, and sensed the subtle change from cornered animal to cautious predator. He was still very much not calm, but he was calmer, and Darcy could work with that.
“In your eyes there is doubt, as you try to figure it out. But that’s not what life is about- so have faith there’s a way.
Though the world may try to define you It can’t take the light that’s inside you. So don’t you dare try to hide Let your fears fade away….”
She saw the moment Bucky surfaced from whatever had pulled him under. Winter went boneless as he leaned against the wall, and Bucky’s head dipped back to thunk against it. His eyes closed and he took a shuddering breath.
Darcy slid the last couple of feet between them, and reached for his shoulders. He leaned into her and Darcy used his nearness to continue to sing directly into his ear, pressing her body to his and cuddling close.
“You are the dawn of a new day that’s waking. A masterpiece still in the making. The blue in an ocean of grey. You are right where you need to be- poised to inspire and to succeed. You’ll look back and you’ll realize one day-”
You can’t pray in faith and wait in doubt!
