When people say Zero makes Junko sympathetic, they do not mean what you think they mean.
Ahhh so you believe it's a matter of not knowing what an unsympathetic/sympathetic villian IS, not a matter of the novels context.
The reason I believe it to mean this is because typically when I say "Enoshima is an unsympathetic villian and she works best this way" I get people in my asks and DMs telling me that actually I'm wrong, and that the novel disproves this. It's kinda hard...to feel like there could be any other meaning! Esp since I've had a few people tell me they gave her a backstory and a meaning.
For the sake of clearing any confusion. As I've said before, an example of an unsympathetic villian is The Joker. They do bad things for bad reasons, and tend to have either no back story or a backstory that doesn't make you feel bad or feel as though they're misunderstood. They do bad things for the sake of power or sadism or selfishness. Or, usually, all of the above.
I know that personally I always felt that Enoshima and Naegi were both a nature over nuture statement, because they represent despair/hope in it's pure form. This also makes sense with Enoshima's unsympathetic character as again she's just...like this! Its bad for the sake of bad. At the end of the day, Enoshima's MAIN reason for all of this was because she was BORED.
BUT I've had people tell me the novel disproves this and that its actually a nuture over nature story with Enoshima. Which I CANNOT imagine being done in a way that keeps her unsympathetic villian archetype, should that be true. But if multiple people have told me this..???
Actually, that plot point is addressed in Danganronpa Togami, so you know for when you do read it. Byakuya learning about Genocide Jack in the worst way possible at the worst possible time.
Hm that's a concerning thing to hear but good to know
Why do I feel like multiple minds, bodies, etc. .. It's not me.. I'm not one person.. I am.. Them.. They are.. Me..
I figured out that I'm better off not explaining how and why I do the things that I do. If people can only read the surface of what you are, and that's all they want to see, let them see just what they need to see. Everything more is just something to keep and share only with the people that desire and are ready to receive that information. Words wasted on ears that do not listen and eyes that do not see are just seeds thrown on rocky ground. Prepare your ground first and then ask for the seeds.”

My philosophy. I could care less how others wrongfully interpret or assume things of me. I’m not going to waste my breath explaining my perspective, my reasoning, my side of the story if they are too ignorant to empathize in the first place.
