The ocean is a dead-end. Neil knows this, so why can’t he stop himself from moving towards it? If he was really smart—if he really was following his mother’s promise—he would take the first bus he could get to somewhere on the East Coast. Somewhere nondescript, like North Carolina. It doesn’t matter, Neil thinks. He slings his duffel bag over one shoulder and stands, stretching out his legs. The world is ending anyway.
