Viva Las Vegas was released on 20 May 1964.
With a script written in about 10 days (credited to Sally Benson) and including 10 song-and-dance scenes, production was marred by conflict between veteran director George Sidney and Elvis Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker. Parker wanted less of Ann-Margret, and wanted the film to come in under budget (which would increase Parker's earnings). Sidney prevailed with his focus on Marget, and the film went over budget (Parker would reduce budgets on subsequent Presley films).
Viva Las Vegas was a commercial hit and is considered on of Presley's best films. The theme song (written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman) peaked at #29 on the US Billboard chart and sold about 500,000 copies.
