don't tell the dog
✈: 2bmos 2bmos 2bmos!!! 🙏
"Doooc…"
The voice comes from across the hall, raspy and weak and without the sharp impatience that usually accompanies it. Still, Doc startles out of his seat like he's being shouted at, pushing away from his computer and rushing to the other room.
Deimos had passed out sometime yesterday morning and hasn't woken since, until now, an infected wound at his side dragging him into the throes of fever. His eyes are still closed when Doc peers into the room, but the sheets are kicked off and his brows twitch at the sound of footsteps approaching.
"Hurts…" Deimos mumbles, then scowls when the end of a thermometer is promptly pushed into his mouth.
"Under your tongue," Doc tells him, paying no mind to his lip curling as if he's even considering biting. He isn't, but Deimos would be no one without his theatrics.
"Mean t'me-," he complains but Doc gently shushes him.
His temperature is sitting at 101.2°, so it's breaking, evidenced by the sweat clinging to his forehead and matting his hair. Deimos runs a couple degrees hotter by nature but it's still higher than normal, a far cry from 105.1° yesterday though.
"Good news, you're out of the woods."
"Was never in th'woods. Been'n the room."
"Of course." Doc sets the thermometer aside, then brushes damp bangs off of Deimos's forehead, the scowl melting away almost instantly. "Hungry?"
"Mm-mm…"
"I'll get you some water then," Doc says as he stands, a sharp whine following the second his hand leaves Deimos's skin. "None of that, I'll be right back."
"Doc…"
"Deimos."
"Doc.."
"Water."
"Noooo…"
It feels like the hardest thing in the world to leave the room, go to the kitchen, and get him a glass of water, and in that short eternity Deimos manages to pass out again. There's a rasp to every inhale and a grumble to every exhale that's a little worrying, but the worst of it should be over.
Doc sits at the edge of the mattress and Deimos rouses almost immediately, an eye cracking open for only a second and then shutting when it meets Doc's gaze.
Busted.
Doc sighs a bit dramatically. "You're going to make this difficult, aren't you?"
Grumbling. Deimos shoves his face down into his pillow.
This song-and-dance is nothing new to either of them. Doc reaches for his shoulder but in one motion Deimos grabs his wrist without warning and twists around in bed to pull Doc over and then under himself.
Deimos is strong. Even sick and half-awake, he's strong and he's heavy and he's a brat. Doc struggles briefly, but the arms locked around him and the leg tossed over his own has him effectively trapped. "You're impossible, you know that?" he huffs but resigns himself to their new position, and he really can't bring himself to be irritated anymore when Deimos only nuzzles his face into Doc's throat and goes lax. Creaky purring fires up but just as quickly fades into soft snoring that's a little less raspy than a few minutes ago.
Fine, Doc will let him win this time.
He's drinking the damn water when he wakes up though.
would you care for a slice of 2bdei? (god its been FOREVER since I've drawn these two goons like this but they've never slipped the mind)

Hey gang I’m on a new account thumbs up if u know who I was
Hear me out one day Doc gets struck by lightning and he gets turned into a charge creeper. And you know he's hurt because ow lightning, but he knows that being charged maybe makes him more impulsive and when he literally explodes it's bigger, like a charged creeper. So he's trying to avoid Bomb and the kids and his friends while he's still charged because he doesn't want to accidentally hurt them.
- Docmod
((Bomb would be so sad and scared like "did i do something wrong why isn't he home? Why does it brush it off when I ask him to come home?" and then he finds Doc as a charged creeper and just...sigh. He's annoyed at him but also hopes doc is okay))

I rest my case

Deimos is a sleepy thing. If he isn't kept busy he goes into what he calls "power saving mode" within the hour, heart rate dropping and blood retreating from his limbs until they're icy cold. He'll seek out the warmest, safest place to rest, and that used to be one of the beater vehicles that are baking outside in the sun. Deimos would nap in there for hours, only waking and coming inside for food or water unless he was needed.
These days, that place is inside. More specifically, wherever Doc is. Even more specifically, in Doc's lap.
And that isn't a complaint. It's very, very far from a complaint. But there's something jarring about having a grown man wordlessly crawl into one's lap completely unprompted as if it were a routine thing, nevermind the fact that this office chair certainly has a weight limit or that Doc is in the middle of typing. Still, when Deimos kicks his boots off at the door and has that glazed over look in his eyes, Doc always scoots back from the desk a bit to accomodate this oversized cat.
The chair groans in protest but not nearly as loud as Deimos's content grumble, deep and not unlike the sound an animal might make. Hands worm their way between Doc's back and the leather seat, feet hooking under warm thighs, Deimos pressing his cold nose into Doc's neck.
It's entirely userous but it's sweet, and entirely worth it to scratch gently at the hair on the back of his neck when it earns him a soft purr.
"Long day?" Doc asks, not minding one bit when Deimos sighs against his throat and snuggles his face into the warmth there.
"Jus' bored," Deimos replies, but he smells like the sun and there's a bit of fresh blood matted in his hair that doesn't belong to him. Sometimes he disappears for hours on end without a word and no one ever really griefs him for it unless he turns up injured.
"You know you have a bed here that you can use." One that Deimos never uses unless he's stuck on bedrest, quicker to sleep on the beatup couch outside than "his" room.
"Mmmmnahh… doesn't smell right. 'sides, you're warm…" His voice is distorted by the purring that grows louder as Doc scratches down his spine, his claws flexing lightly into the skin of Doc's back. Not hard enough to hurt, just enough to remind him that they're there.
He's lighter than he looks but the weight feels nice even if Doc is slowly losing circulation in his legs. "Any chance I can talk you into moving this to the couch?"
The next sigh is a protest but eventually he moves, a lazy sort of sway to the way he climbs off of Doc to sit hunched at the desk instead, pouting almost. All it takes is a quick scratch under the chin to have that engine rumbling again into a sleepy purr.
Doc grabs his laptop, gives Deimos a once-over to make sure the source of his tiredness isn't bloodloss, and then Deimos is trailing after him out of the office and to their makeshift livingroom.
The couch isn't all that comfortable but it's worlds better than an office chair and doesn't "smell wrong." Deimos still weasels his way under one of Doc's arms and shoves his face into the man's side, shielding his eyes from the light and burying himself in a familiar scent. Limbs still tangle with Doc's own and snake beneath him, seeking heat as Deimos's system goes right back into power saving mode.
Doc can't bring himself to be annoyed even if he has to type with one hand because the other is busy petting his operative's hair. Even when that low purr tapers off into slow, rhythmic snoring. Even when he gets strange looks from the other two men in their makeshift base.
Sometimes it's easy to forget that Deimos is one of the most dangerous things in his pocket.
Apex predators sleep 15-20 hours a day, a metric Deimos meets with ease.
But it's easy to forget, even if it's only for a bit.

Doc pulls the flashdrive out of the tower, then hesitates. If he's lucky, he'll have two minutes to get out of here before the datacenter is swarming with agents. Soldats, to be specific.
That won't be the hard part.
Deimos is stamping the butt of his cigarette into the concrete floor when Doc turns back to him. Their eyes meet, and then his gaze flicks down to the gun at Doc's hip. They both know what comes next.
