I’ve been a part of Docs In Progress for almost as long as the organization has been around and I have enjoyed attending events, meeting the great leadership and membership that are the most valuable part of the organization, and picking up some invaluable information and contacts along the way…but that wasn’t the most memorable thing that happened to me as a member and supporter of Docs in Progress. Before getting to that part, I should also tell you that I was accepted to the inaugural cohort of the Fellows Program, and as I was finishing up one documentary, I was formulating my approach for the next one. I had an idea that I had been wrestling with for some time, doing research and trying to figure out an approach, and that’s what I brought to the table to discuss with my fellow cohorts. They had great ideas and pushed me to continue honing the structure of my next project, but I was never able to find an approach that I was completely comfortable with. And although it might seem like my participation in the Fellows program was a failure, as I didn’t find the answers I was seeking (then), it turned out to be a necessary component of the creation process, as I simply needed a bit more time. It wasn’t until I attended a fellows’ alumni meeting, with members of the first and second cohorts, that I ran smack into an epiphany. A seemingly routine discussion of my project unearthed the vision that I had been looking for. I am certain that most of the attendees of that meeting have no realization of what happened, but it ROCKED MY WORLD. I am now happily embarked on my third documentary project, thanks to the participation of the fellows from Docs in Progress and the incredible community that this organization has created in the DC area. When I pitched at Doc House as part of Peer Pitch during AFI Docs, I was a Midwesterner unsure of what kind of reception an Iowa story would receive on the coast. It was a warm welcome. As was the critical feedback I got that day, and that I still get from the friends I made at Peer Pitch, all of which has been instructive to making our film the best it can be. As we look to premiere that film at festivals in 2017, I'm thankful for the chance to discover our Midwestern identity, even so far from home.

Φέτος, η Αγορά Ντοκιμαντέρ του 17ου Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης, η οποία υποστηρίζεται από το ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα Creative Europe MEDIA, φιλοξενεί 4 ελληνικές ταινίες στο τμήμα Docs in Progress.

Να σημειωθεί ότι για τέταρτη χρονιά, η Αγορά Ντοκιμαντέρ διοργανώνει (18-20/3/2015) την επιτυχημένη σειρά συζητήσεων «Market Talks», όπου διακεκριμένοι επαγγελματίες του κινηματογραφικού χώρου (Guy Knafo– ιδρυτής της γαλλικής εταιρείας διανομής 10Francs, Melanie Iredale – αναπληρώτρια διευθύντρια του Sheffield Doc/Fest και Mohamed Soueid –εκπρόσωπος τηλεοπτικού δικτύου Al Arabiya), θα δώσουν χρηστικές πληροφορίες και πρακτικές συμβουλές στους έλληνες και ξένους ντοκιμαντερίστες. Παράλληλα, στο πλαίσιο της Αγοράς Ντοκιμαντέρ, η Ελένη Χανδρινού, σύμβουλος Ευρωπαϊκών Χρηματοδοτικών Προγραμμάτων, θα παρέχει συμβουλές σε έλληνες και ξένους σκηνοθέτες και παραγωγούς όσον αφορά στα χρηματοδοτικά προγράμματα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.

DOCS IN PROGRESS

Τα Docs in Progress της Αγοράς Ντοκιμαντέρ του 17ου ΦΝΘ είναι συνολικά 7 ταινίες από τα Βαλκάνια και τη Μεσόγειο, οι οποίες απευθύνονται αποκλειστικά στους ειδικούς καλεσμένους της Αγοράς και παρουσιάζονται στους παραγωγούς, εκπροσώπους πωλήσεων (sales agents), διανομείς και εκπροσώπους φεστιβάλ που θα είναι παρόντες στη φετινή διοργάνωση. Φέτος, για πρώτη χρονιά στα Docs in Progress, η ελληνική εταιρία post-production 2|35 Inc προσφέρει βραβείο σε υπηρεσίες post-production αξίας 15.000 ευρώ.

DOCS IN THESSALONIKI / EDN PITCHING FORUM 2015  

Το Docs in Τhessaloniki / EDN Pitching Forum 2015 διοργανώνεται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο Ντοκιμαντέρ EDN, σε συνεργασία με το 17ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης – Εικόνες του 21ου Αιώνα και με την υποστήριξη του Ευρωπαϊκού Προγράμματος Creative Europe ΜEDIA, στο πλαίσιο της Αγοράς Ντοκιμαντέρ του Φεστιβάλ. To ετήσιο αυτό «διεθνές ραντεβού» περιλαμβάνει συζητήσεις για την παραγωγή και pitching επιλεγμένων σχεδίων ντοκιμαντέρ απ’ όλο τον κόσμο, μέσω εντατικών εκπαιδευτικών συναντήσεων και ανοιχτών στο κοινό συναντήσεων pitching. Με αυτό τον τρόπο, δίνει την ευκαιρία στους έλληνες και ξένους επαγγελματίες του οπτικοακουστικού χώρου, να παρουσιάσουν και να προωθήσουν το έργο τους, σε τηλεοπτικούς σταθμούς της χώρας μας, αλλά και του εξωτερικού.

VICE editor-in-chief @rocco_castoro and photographer/videographer Robert King have been following John McAfee for the past four days, documenting his life on the run. Rocco and Robert will release exclusive preview footage of a forthcoming long-form documentary about McAfee's ordeal that will provide answers to many open questions and set the record straight.

John McAfee is a software tycoon notably responsible for creating the McAfee Anti-virus.

Last month, police found the body of McAfee's neighbor, Gregory Faull, with a gunshot wound to the back of the head in his Belize home. Since then, the father of anti-virus software has been on the run, supplying half-hourly updates on his condition to Wired Magazine.
