Did you know asthma is on the rise? like really really on the rise? but why?
1 in 12 people in the U.S have asthma
So basically its contributing to the fact that children are being exposed to more allergens than they were about 10-15 years ago. Allergens like dust, second-hand smoke, and air pollution. Which are factors that can increase chances of getting asthma. What I find most interesting is that there are theories and research to prove that it could also be linked to children being too “clean “ nowadays. which means that children are not being exposed to “normal” childhood illnesses which is used to build up the bodies immune system. Researchers also argue that Asthma can be linked to the increase in the use of medications like antibiotics. Antibiotics can also increase the likelihood of asthma, because the use of antibiotics at an early age change the normal bacterial flora in the child. When this normal flora is changed you cant really get that back now your body adjusts to it in a way.
Asthma is currently the leading cause of chronic illness in the U.S.
Working at a Pharmacy I totally witness this because SO MANY adults and children come to pick up inhalers.
