when kirk asks"how's our ship?" it's such a perfect statement about his character. because some captains call it their ship, and only theirs, but jim knows that she belongs to all 450 people manning her. and it's such a small statement, but really it covers such a magnitude of love and family, so when Kirk refuses to accept that she's gone, it's because his family is still onboard, and therefore she's not. she is her crew, and as long as they're alive, she will fly.

Kirk isn't easy to love. He's hard to care for, and sometimes even harder to understand. But if someone could, they'd keep coming back for more, against all reason. Because he'd make a home out of the dark corners and deadbolts. He'd clean out the dust in the closet and give them (someone cherishedadored respected) a blanket, so that if Bones had to hide he'd be comfortablesafe okay.
