recently ive been watching this production of the tale of tsar saltan in which bogdan volkov (2024 salzburg festival myshkin) plays prince gvidon, who is textually autistic in this adaptation, and there are so many little similarities in his acting of both characters it is driving me nuts i need to know if it was intentional or i will die

#the idiot #dostoevsky #ghost post #the tale of tsar saltan #gvidon is much higher support needs than myshkin but their physicality has so much overlap it is making me insane. BOGDAN #also such an incredibly accurate and sensitive portrayal overall it makes me want to cry his stimming is so incredibly accurate #like the finger tapping thing in the last gif and the hard blinking. normally autistic characters just flap which he does also and which is #excellent i love flapping but it's not The Only stim so seeing other ones which i do all the time makes me feel so much #most of them i dont think ive ever seen portrayed before. and hes one of the principal characters in the story whilst doing them!!!!!!!!!!#i havent finished it yet so i cant cast any judgement yet but i am completely besotted with it so far i cant stop thinking about it #i was a bit nervous going into it because the premise is that the whole fantastical fairytale story is gvidon's mother's attempt to connect #with him and i thought it could very easily be very infantilising but so far it hasnt been that at all. his mother has a voice but so #does he #i am so tempted to email bogdan mr volkov and ask if the similarities were on purpose. i need to know Богдан помоги мне #interesting to note too that all of the myshkin examples come from scenes when hes deeply distressed thus less regulated #his stimming isnt so 'obvious' elsewhere unlike gvidon who has less control over it. but in these scenes it comes through so clearly #i always read opera myshkin as autistic but i thought that could easily be because myshkin is universally autistic rather than anything #specific about the performance but now i am thinking so much forever. Богдан!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway as i said i havent finished it yet but hopefully i will tonight and then i will report back :D #i adore it so far though the costuming and set design in particular is bonkers they do some incredible things with projection
