Even if the Doggod/narrative never comments on the Soul's predicament, he still wrote it into existence. The contrast is undeniable whenever I think back on some minor, innocuous exchange like Catti saying she's now "enemy clans" with Kris because they've befriended Susie, and yet there are fans who will clutch their pearls when you say Kris kidnapped & enslaved us and Ralsei is their accomplice/enabler. If it's normal for friendship points to drop when you hang out with the school bully, and yet none of us are allowed to look sideways at our own kidnapping, enslavement, dehumanization, and more, that's an embarrassing level of minimization. #girlstandUP

The only alternatives for the devs, now, are to either address or not address it (or... do what some fans want and condone our mistreatment, slap Kris on the wrist, then immediately pat them on the head after handing them fifty billion permission slips.) But they can't UN-write it. can't shove that toothpaste back into the tube. The Soul IS a kidnapping/dehumanization/battery victim. Now let's say something about it.

Why were we ever born a person into this world if only to be dehumanized and mistreated? If friendship (as it's truly defined) was never on the table for us? I wish that kind old skeleghost had never asked me my name. "But then you wouldn't have been able to save XYZ!" as a stranger? as though the satisfaction of finishing a game basically the same old way I would any other--in this, the game that asked us our name--is anywhere near on-par with friendship or, in this case, its antithesis: betrayal? "We can never be loved the way they love each other," I get it. That doesn't mean we deserve nothing. I think part of the reason I obsess so much over the painful aspects of our reality in their universe is because they're realer than the good ones. Maybe Doggod won't personalize positivity toward the Player, but he sure as shit found a way to make the negative stuff personal--passed that bar with flying colors. Forgive me my doubts that he'll be willing to match it with something good toward us. It's just so dark for us right now, and even if light shines on the other characters, it's not the same as standing in the light, ourselves.
