Why would Boom be allowed back to venues and competitions when he's attacking other dogs? I don't understand how anyone hasn't filed complaints against the idiot owner?

I don’t understand either, to be honest. I don’t know why Jaeger and her other APBT allowed to compete, either despite the owner knowing that they’re all dog-aggressive (or at the very least, selective) and knowing that they’re from fighting lines.

Quotes from the owner herself about her sport dogs (various breeds) being DA:

“Jaeger gets along great with bitches, puppies, and little dogs (under 20 - 25lbs). He also is okay with some neutered males. Never intact males, unless they fall into the puppy or little dog category.Envy, my little black bitch, like to just nail the other dogs to keep them on their toes. She’s a bitch and everybody but Jaeger and Gidget steer clear of her.Kainda, my Patterdale, hates all other bitches, as well as, any males under about 15lbs. She also hates bouncy dogs, hairy dogs, and barking dogs. She makes agility and flyball very interesting.Boom, Shocker and Gidget love everyone.Hennessy, Patron, and Amira get along fine with opposite sex, some same sex, both big and little dogs.Ruckus, my BC, HATES puppies. Other than that he is pretty good with everyone.Sniper is still too cocky for his own good, and is the only dog that will still try and play with Envy. For now. The only actual fights or injuries that have ever happened were when I was out of town, and either my husband or the pet sitter was cycling the dogs. I am overly diligent with the dogs, plus my dogs behave different when I am around. They don’t really respect or respond to anyone but me.I guess that was probably more than you were asking for“

So yeah, don’t ask me why this person is bringing these dogs to a leash-free dog sport with multiple dogs running at once.This is completely irresponsible behaviour from someone that many (upon seeing Boom mislabeled a “Pit Bull) consider an example of a good bully breed owner.

that link to the fight involving hennessy says that the aussie came after him and he stopped fighting when given commands, so i don't see how it paints her in a bad light? i know she says jaeger wouldn't have been as easy to deal with in that situation but the actual event itself clearly shows hennessy was under control

I’m talking about another situation on another site, but that’s the one I found in the meantime that refers to her comment about Jager.

Is there a source on Boom attacking other dogs? The only one I've seen is Craven Desires, and you can see why I wouldn't trust them.

My source was on some sort of Pit Bull/bully breed forum, where the handler jokes about “fur flying”, her dog(s) attacking an Aussie or a collie or something along those lines. I’ll see if I can find it later on tonight.

Update: Found one involving Hennessey, looking for the othershttp://www.discussworldissues.com/forums/pets-forum/218500-hennessy-took-one-breed.htmlHandler says that the attacking dog was “lucky it wasn’t Jager”, implying that Jager has attacked or been in fights before at these events and that she is knowingly running a DA dog in flyball.

Why don’t they get this dog into some kind of dog sport? Also investing in a fucking muzzle would probably be a good idea. Like gee wiz my pit bull is attacking other dogs?!?!?!!?!?! Keep the dog away from other dogs and give it a task to do? (It at least looks lie a legit pit from what I can tell anyway). I don’t know I feel like all their issues could be fixed if they kept the dog away froth other dogs, got this dog a muzzle and got it into some kind of dog sport.

Muzzle the dog, enter it in work or sports (not with the hopes of eliminating dog-aggression, but to give it something exercising to do), accept the fact that the dog will never be safe around other dogs.

When you said in reply to the anon that DA bully breeds wouldn't go out of their way to fight, what exactly did you mean? Just a little confused because I've read about, and seen once or twice, an APBT or bully mix do what it can to get at another dog. So I'm not sure if I just misunderstood ya or not. Sorry!

What I was saying was that if dogs had to be forced to fight, DA dog breeds wouldn’t go out of their way to fight. Meaning you’d have to force them and they wouldn’t rush to a fence or lunge on their leash of their own free will when on walks and passing a dog. :)

Contradictions, contradictions everywhere with dog mommies! How can they say these dogs are forced to fight, and then when the dogs randomly (or go out of their way to) fight, it's because they weren't socialized? Idiots, right?

If the dogs were forced to fight, dog-fights would not revolve around “scratch-and-turn” contests. There would be no scratch-lines, and the walls of a dog-fighting pit can be easily jumped as well. DA bully breeds would not go out of their way to pick a fight with a dog on a walk.On top of that, if dogs could be forced or trained to fight, dog-fighters would have a hell of an easier time just grabbing two black labs for $50 each off Craigslist and running a fancy million dollar black lab Fightclub empire.

I was raised around pits and have always had a softspot for them. More recently it I've wanted to adopt a bully breed. However, I had a close friend who claimed her aunt adopted a pit from the pound and it killed her chihuahua. We have two small dogs and two cats. Is it a bad idea to adopt with everything we have in the house?

I would strongly advise against bringing any type of bully breed into the house while you’ve got small dogs and cats. These are dogs that have a very high level of small-animal aggression and many of them are dog-aggressive - both of these are instinctual and cannot be trained or “rehabilitated” out. While a dog may be okay sitting next to a cat on the couch, if that cat were to take off across the room, the dog could be triggered into chasing and kill the cat in a split second.

I would advise waiting until you are in a one-dog-only home with no small animals before getting a bully breed

I want to get a pit bull puppy, but I worry about dog fights that can (and most likely will) happen. I own one dog, a large mutt, and I live in area filled with other dogs. How can I manage the pit bull's behavior/dog-aggressive tendencies, and how can I prevent fights?

Depending on who you get your dog from or what pedigree he has, he may be really DA or not so much. Dogs who have recent gamebred ancestors and might pass the DA onto your pup, but it’s not always guaranteed.Whatever the case is, many people with multiple dogs in the house who own at least one bully breed operate on a "crate and rotate" method of housing, and seem to have success with this. Some Pit Bulls are dog-aggressive from the start but others don’t show any aggression until they’re older. Usually around sexual maturity (1 to 2 years of age), the dog-aggression will kick in, or not at all. Even if your bully breed shows no aggression ever, it’s unwise to let your guard down as this trait can pop up at any time. Own a breakstick or two, carry it with you, use it.I would not suggest letting your Pit Bull go in a dog park. Dog parks in general aren’t a really good place for dogs in the first place (I know, kind of weird to say that!) because people seem to just let their dogs run rampant without checking in on them or stepping in when things get out of hand. As a result, scraps happen and bad behaviour is encouraged or ignored (rough playing, ignoring obvious signs of extreme stress, dogs humping other dogs!!!!!) Don’t allow your Pit Bull to play with other dogs unsupervised. These dogs don’t make a lot of noise before a fight, and you don’t want to be eating dinner to look out the window and see your dogs in a brawl on the lawn. I would suggest using positive re-enforcement methods of dog training to train your dog to enjoy the contact of other dogs. This doesn’t guarantee that your dog won’t be DA, and certainly won’t curb DA genetics, but it can help your dog learn to be okay with approaching other dogs to say hi, and how to play with them correctly.
