My AU's
A New Vein - Starter vampires Legundo and Abolish with Pyro being Abolish's first fledgling. Starter vampire Legundo follows the same characterization cc!Legs has stated, but in this AU, Abolish fulfills more of a combination of Owen and Louis's roles.
In The White Pine - Vampires crossover with Whitepine with a heavy focus on the ship Firelocke. Abolish is sent on a mission posing as a potential client for the Hemlocke family. As he stays at the estate he must find out who Mysti's killer is, what keeps making people disappear in the woods, and how he feels about this reincarnated version of Pyro.
Doglike Devotion - Abolish and his coworkers: Legs, Pyro and Owen all having a no good bad time and also learning how to cohabitate and coexist.
The Fighter Still Remains - Fighter Wels forced to retire after a brutal beat down by his rival Hels. Wels flees to New York trying to hide away all while rebuilding a new life and leaving his past behind him. Things change for the better after he meets some friends at his local gym. Based off the song The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel
YES, I so rarely talk about it despite it being sooo fun to me. Unlike ITWP, Doglike Devotion is MUCH more disjointed and more so like snippets of an overall timeline rather than ITWP which follows more linear progressions. The four central characters are Abolish, Legs, Owen, Pyro.
ALSO DOGLIKE DEVOTIONCORE SONG
A few ideas I have for Doglike Devotion since at its core it is my Holy Wound AU that displays how fucking sick and twisted - possessive, obsessive and protective - over one another they all are and is to emphasize each of their duo dynamics and also large dynamics with one another and see how that effects them. The name stems from their doglike behaviors - territorial aggression, fear response, resource guarding, protection and loyalty. Ngl, a lot of Doglike Devotion is just grabbing one of Holy Wound and seeing how fucking up one of them so badly makes all the others go ballistic.
So, a few story snippets I have thought of in the grand scheme of this collection. One of them is a Hurt/Comfort fic where Abolish gets seriously injured by Pyro during one of Pyro's frenzied episodes and Legs is left trying to heal and rehabilitate Abolish who remains pretty steadfast - once he does wake up - that he is okay - despite Doc literally knowing in every single feasible physical way Abolish is most certainly not - and the ludicrous levels of guilt and suicidality Pyro feels in response to this. It eventually leads to an understanding and things get better. (Also yay, the start of my chronically ill/disabled Abolish headcanons)
Another is exploring the ways in which Abolish's influence helps to keep the others from doing something severe - touching a lot on the three vampires varying levels of suicidal ideation/attempts and Abolish basically forcing them kicking and screaming to keep living til they eventually realize that living - even with one another and all its difficulties - is actually kind of like..nice.
These two other ideas I have are kind of like. Idk. Maybe the darker ones in the collection? I got one where it's basically like torture Abolish the fic and see how it absolutely obliterates Legs, Owen and Pyro's wellbeings and sends them into an insanely protective, vindictive, vengeful and feral frenzy. It's a lot of push and pull in them all having to rely on one another more so than rely on Abolish to fix their problems for them since he's obviously recovering and going through his own things. (Legs, Owen and Pyro like losing their fucking minds and Abolish like "it's fine, it's not even the top 10 worst tortures I've been through," and they're like "WHAT?!")
The last one I've sat on is distinctly focused on Pyro and his worsening mental health. I wanted to touch more on the dialogue between Pyro and Scott back at Oakhurst when Pyro said he felt like he was trapped in a dream still despite everything that happened and Scott telling him to wake up. I wanted the others to notice his deteriorating lucidity and just general inability to take care of himself and after they intervene they find out he's just fully in a depersonalized/derealized state where he felt he was still in a dream and just so disconnected from himself and reality. One of the things that really hits them in this time is realizing Pyro still had A LOT of trauma healing to go through and he just hasn't really been able to as much as he should have by this point. He believes everything to be one complicated and long night terror and he keeps waiting to "wake up" - in this case die in his "dream" and "wake up in real life." The three have to break it to him and then watch him as he goes through a fluctuating spiral over the next several weeks. The three all get to care about him in their individual and collective ways they all know how.
Hm. Idk if this is my darkest fic idea but it's the one on my brain rn just cause I mentioned it in a previous ask. The Pyro section in Doglike Devotion got me thinking a lot abt portraying a very fucked up dynamic between he and Scott - duh - and in regards to Holy Wound it is Owen, Abolish and Legs realizing the long lasting effects of things they never addressed with him.
Pyro's tendencies to dissociate, the trauma reactions, the suicidal tendencies and acts of self harm and very active self destruction. It's mostly a lot of suicide watching Pyro who is regressing into old mindsets and as he believes it's a dream allows himself to really get put into extremely dangerous situations. The three have to basically help him become lucid and then it's a lot of making sure he doesn't try doing something like killing himself out of guilt and grief.
Oh! Actually while talking about this I just recalled what sparked the AU name Doglike Devotion in the first place and it came from my one off idea of Pyro absolutely shredding Abolish to pieces in a fight in a bloodlust and then Legs having to glue himself to Abolish's bedside to help him recover from not only wounds but infection that should have killed him. Pyro goes through a lot of guilt and shame in retrospect due to having lost control and he goes through a very dark rabbit hole due to it. Abolish goes through a lot of medical crisis and Legs is falling apart at the seems trying to keep Abolish alive even at his own detriment and falling extremely deep into medical warfare trauma brain. I forgot what I thought Owen would do.
But yeah neither of these ideas in this AU are like the darkest people have come up with, mostly just a lot of psychological/mental/emotional stuff and a heaping dose of medical crisis and suicide watch for some of the characters.
"Big things for the caters to me only fans" incorrect, this sounds so fucking good - would you be willing to share anything else about this AU/wip? Bc this is soooo incredibly perfect and every line is better than the last. I love those guys having Such a bad time >:3
Hello hello, so glad you like it! Doglike Devotion yap under the cut.
I've talked about it here before and in a few other Doglike Devotion posts, but this scene runs in my mind all the time. It originally started with me thinking about his line about the never ending nigbtmare/it being a dream, and also thinking about things like Capgras Syndrome and derealization. It sort of snowballed into thinking about a situation in which Pyro's mind which is so so trauma ridden and already has a tendency to struggle maintaining a solid grasp on reality fully delves into the "this is all a dream" delusion both out of reaction for the immense amount of stress/duress it is under but also to protect him from his reality. Idk yet what factors lead up to this snapping point but I'll figure it out.
This to me is cathartic of Pyro having his episode, Holy Wound being forced to try and figure out how to caretake him and keep him alive and safe. With Owen and Legs having overt suicidal tendencies in the series, I really thought it'd be fun to see them and Abolish who acts as the stabilizing force in the dynamic all having to figure out how to adapt to the situation and be the support Pyro needs. Because snapping him back to reality and making him come to terms with it does result in a very catastrophic breakdown from him where he does actively try and stake himself using Abolish's gear. [Yes this does in fact impact Abolish more than he'd like to admit knowing his tools nearly were what killed Pyro after spending so many years trying to keep him alive and protect him].
It's fun to me the notion of Owen who is so self destructive and reacts to things that confuse or overwhelm him with anger having to channel it into keeping Pyro from making mad dashes to weaponry or restraining him from hurting himself and begging demanding him to get ahold of himself youre scaring him. Doc doing so much to try and care for the physical and mental pains Pyro is going through and working out a care plan, obsessing to the point Abolish and Owen remind him he works himself to the bone in a self destructive frenzy and it isn't what is needed in this situation is both Pyro and Legs falling apart so please take a breather. And Abolish with the weight of it all on his shoulders, the stabilizing force, the one who best tethers Pyro to reality and calms the other twos fears and it is so so much but he can't let anymore of his loved ones die. Not when he has the power this time to stop it.
Anyways. Holy Wound and their no good terrible time and their troubles with self expression and coping and healing and yet they wont let each other sink alone.
