Thank You Drunken Zombie, If You Will
As you might have heard in the latest episode of Drunken Zombie, they are shutting down the DZPN and website soon. But I have a few things to say before the lights go out…
In 2009 I found something called a podcast and the rest is history, so they say… In 2009 Bryan gave me an opportunity to write for Drunken Zombie, to this day I still don’t know what I’m doing but I somehow manage to put words together and tell people what I think.
Over time I found my niche and wrote about DVD special features because at the time no one was and it was slim pickings trying to find out what extras were on which disc when you have multiple releases over the years.
Drunken Zombie wasn’t all about writing, I got to know everyone in the horror podcasting community and people that had nothing to do with the horror genre. I made some awesome friends over the years. I can thank Drunken Zombie for that.
The early years of DZ was like the Wild West. Between fighting the good fight against censorship and your occasional podcast war, it was all in good fun… Sometimes.
At some point writing about horror got old and occasionally I’ll type up a DVD or Blu-Ray extras review, but the one thing I wanted to write about was wrestling and that’s what I did. From RAW and PPV reviews to predicting the outcome of WrestleMania. The Massive One did it all, woo! Even called the voicemail line with impressions of my favorite wrestlers. And loved hearing the DZ crew reacting to it, if you will…
Cut to the past two or three years, Drunken Zombie became a podcasting network. That was a big jump, I think DZ started the whole networking system before it became the norm with podcasts. I know they started the whole putting on your own film festival gig before anyone. The Drunken Zombie Podcasting Network… The DZPN, if you will… Wasn’t a fan and that’s a shoot. Sure having a network of shows is great, but I think it took away from DZ, that magic it once had being a website with a podcast got lost in the shuffle over time. Don’t get me wrong, I may be The Massive One but over the years I haven’t written much, only a handful of stuff every couple months. But the network of podcasts the DZPN has to offer are great. El Goro with Talk Without Rhythm, Murf and The Fat Kid, anything with Lord Blood-Rah, and my all time favorite The Dysfunctional Workshop (RIP).
And now here I am writing this to say thank you to everyone I have come into contact with since I first started promoting Drunken Zombie. Steven and Gord (The Bone Bat Show), Vaughn (Motion Picture Massacre) you guys gave me encouragement when I first started writing and I’ll never forget that, thank you. Johnny Krueg, Sometimes Mike, Midnight Corey thanks for being there when I needed help. The Awesome 80s Pod, and The Old School Wrestling Podcast friends 4-Life…
Wolford, Wes, Randy, and Dave… Thank you for supporting me in whatever I wrote or just to collaborate with me on a post. And giving me a voice to share my opinions with the world.
I may have never traveled the world or wined and dined with kings and queens because of my opportunity with DZ but it felt like it… Thank You. Lastly… Double A! You will always be my sweet, sweet Sapphire. Woo!
This is The Massive One saying one last time. Keep it right here at DrunkenZombie.com your home for all things horror… Massive!
