also i was like half-asleep talking to mal last night about this but ... thena knew that druig wasn’t “gone” as ikaris put it, because she knows what losing gilgamesh felt like, and what it did to her, and makkari would have felt it if druig died, it would have been so blatantly obvious to them, and especially to thena, given how raw gil’s death was at the time, that druig had died. granted, people react differently and you can’t expect everyone to respond in the same way you do. but it’s clear to thena at least that ikaris fucked up, and druig is still alive, but because of the heat of battle and not necessarily thinking clearly, makkari took him at his word. at that point, no one but thena knows what it feels like to lose your gann josin, and it’s not something you can just imagine either. you can see it, like the others saw with thena in the amazon, but you can’t experience that loss yourself until it happens to you, so you don’t really know what level of agony it really is, and you can assume that whatever hurt you’re feeling in the moment is the same, but it isn’t. also, makkari wasn’t there in the amazon when gilgamesh died, so she didn’t see thena’s reaction. it doesn’t invalidate how she would have felt in that moment, believing druig dead, but it’s not the same as actually losing your other half. and that’s why thena knew druig was still alive before he showed up on the beach.
