Wait I'm dumb what's a dojo scene???
You’re not dumb! The Dojo scene is the scene in Volume 5 when Oscar got to cry and confess how scared he is, have a bit of a breakdown from being overwhelmed, and Ruby was able to provide him some support and comfort. Ever since, there have been people wanting to see a parallel scene with the roles reversed. I didn’t know about it until recently, but there’s been decent setup for it, and now it’s more likely than ever. If it’s gonna happen, it’ll probably be in the next couple chapters or early next volume (I’d prefer this volume, cause I’d rather it happen prior to the merge finalizing, since that’s a huge contributor to Oscar’s fears right now, plus Ruby doesn’t need the fall of atlas in order to break down).
This volume and last have been setting up Ruby’s breakdown while showcasing how well Oscar’s handling things -- too well. Just like how Oscar called Ruby out with “how can you be so confident?!” and listing out the terrors they’re facing, prompting Ruby to admit that she IS scared and share how she gets through it, the potential “dojo scene 2.0″ (as the FNDM nicknamed it) would have Ruby call out Oscar for how he’s handling all of this and not freaking out, which would prompt him to confide his true fears and how he’s still fighting. It wouldn’t be the same, or as monologue-y, but it’d keep the core element of having someone comfort you when you can barely hold yourself together.
Narratively, it works really well for both characters as well as the plot, and I think now is the perfect time for it. The group just reunited, the ultimatum has changed everything, and Penny’s asleep. Now’s the time for some emotional payoff for all this buildup of Ruby’s breakdown, while everyone’s looking to her for a plan and she just can’t deal with everything without breaking a bit.
