Somebody up there likes it loud…but quiet….
Many great musicians, producers and sound engineers have passed away over the last few years.
They are obviously making one hell of an album somewhere in the cosmos, because now they must be overdubbing and track bouncing…
How do I know that?
Well it must be no coincidence that the great Ray Dolby passed away this week.
So he has obviously been summoned up there by Phil Ramone to calibrate the Dolby A NR modules on his Studer multitrack.
Dolby won an Oscar for services to engineering excellence in Cinema with his co-partner Ioan Allen. I had the privilege to share a lunch table with Ioan and it was one of the most interesting 60 minute discussions of my career.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to share a pint of beer with Ray Dolby. Awe inspiring, probably.
Gone but not gone.
