Since I’m making Anya’s jumpsuit/coveralls… I thought I’d share how I make doll clothes patterns, I don’t remember who came up with this method, but it’s great!
First you’ll need some cling wrap, some tape (I prefer paper tape because it’s easier to draw on and tear), and a doll to use as a mannequin. Wrap the cling wrap around the parts of the torso that will be clothed, maybe a little extra.
Wrap those cling wrap in tape (I only cover half the torso since it’s a symmetrical piece and it’ll be easier to remove later.
Draw with a marker where the seams will be. You’ll have to make some lines in areas where there are curves as well if you want a more fitted look (like I did around her chest). You’ll need these to make darts later. I Also like to mark front and back.
Next carefully cut the tape/cling wrap abomination off the doll (I use a mix of an exacto knife and thread scissors). Clean up the excess pieces and you’ll have already a very nice but not sturdy pattern.
Take some thin paper and trace all the pieces you cut out to make a more sturdy and nice version of the pattern. I measured the doll’s legs to make the rest of the length of pants part of the coveralls.
