Theatre Costuming

You always learn something new when working as the costume manager/maker of an amateur theatre group.

mostly it's new skills. Lik elast semester I made a quick-change dress for the first time.

this semester I've just finished making a chest plate from fabric to help sell the illusion of our actress playing jonathan harker as a man. drag king videos for the win!

Also because it is basically the middle of the night, the whole thing came together with a lot of hand sewing :) (while listening to the osp reading stream of dracula, funnily enough. I stay consistently in the vibe apparently)

thank gods the dress shirt and the vest and the pants I can resize by maschine tomorrow. Now that the base exists, I can build on top of it!

Another thing I learned for the first time this production is dip dyeing fabric to make our Dracula a lovely red lace shirt, and I learned a lot about cape physics.

We hae 3-5 Draculas in our entire play, so lots of capes needed.

Costuming is so fun, especially tailoring thrifted pieces to fit the proper visions of what the characters look like in our heads

Oh gosh I forgot to post him! This is another kidnapper, but I didn't have material for a bag and he's blue (the gift receiver's favorite color), so he has been dubbed the Unkidnapper.

Does anyone have any advice for mending this?

I have a lot of experience in hand sewing, but I'm not sure where to start in order to mend the rips in a way that will last and ultimately NOT rip easily again.

The first two pics are the pocket that need repairing. The last one is the other unharmed pocket
