Miniature dollhouse presents / gifts for dolls.
I’m getting a doll as a gift! So happy, but I know I’m going to be judged for it because I was considering buying this (unrelated) body someone put up for sale. I (regrettably) made a remark to others (who were encouraging me to purchase) that it was a pricey purchase (compared to a blank head) and had to think about it. It’s nobody’s business why, and when I choose to buy something, but I find it really funny that in the eyes of some people, I can’t do these things.
Someone popular buy/sells like a revolving door and is worshiped. Someone else sells a huge portion of their collection. Good for them, I’m happy for them if they’re happy with their sale and wish them the best luck with a smooth transaction! I sell something and it’s the end of the world.
Someone gets their first (and only) BJD as a gift and is treated so kindly. Others are mocked for it. For reasons like a “lack of dedication” (since they didn’t buy it) or lack of knowledge.
I know it’s satisfying to save for something with “spare” spending money, but does there really have to be a status or prestige applied to it? Shouldn’t we be happy if someone goes out of their way to appreciate our interests, learn about them, and give a special gift (even if it’s not 100% correct, like getting a size 8-9 wig mixed in when a size 7-8 would be a much better fit)? I don’t even care if you have a $1000+ doll whether you bought it or got it for free, you’re part of the community.

My boyfriend has been very tolerant of my hobby as I have been of his. I started showing more interest in his (Magic the Gathering) and lately he's been looking at dolls to buy that are going to be his (but with me still customizing). He was sad he lost out on an ordering period for one doll, but little does he know I bought it for him already. I can't wait to see his face when his first doll comes in!
