If you woke up tomorrow as your theriotype physically, assuming you could magically still communicate with everyone around you, what would you do with your life?
In this scenario you would be unbothered by humans beyond some basic explanation here and there, and perhaps some surprise at first, but you would quickly become ordinary to them after a short time. (No trouble from governments this way either)
Imagine pregnant Avain!Grian, but instead of giving birth, he lays eggs. And they’re like the size of an ostrich’s.
So like Grian would be “pregnant” or whatever the bird equivalent of pregnancy is, for the first 6 months, then lays them, and then he and Scar take turns keeping them warm and safe.
Oh my god I just found this in my asks from like the start of march, I forgot, I'm so sorry- 😭
That is a really cool idea! I mean, he'd look the human equivalent of nine months pregnant for majority of that pregnancy, I would assume, given how large those eggs are... and Scar would be all over him, I bet. He'd be so in love with his round boyfriend it would be almost pathetic.
And then Grian would "give birth" to the egg, which would be quite painful (muhahaha I love angst), and then he would be found curled up around the egg or with it in his lap, his wings all wrapped around it, keeping it warm, all the time. The only person allowed near it would be Scar, and he would probably still be anxious leaving it with him. Scar would be so anxious to do something wrong he would've consumed every piece of avian parenting media there is to make sure he would be caring for it correctly, and he would treat the egg like a child. Read to it, show off his builds to it, put his hat or other accessories on it to see how they would "suit it". Maybe even draw a face on it if Grian would let him. He would be bonding with his unborn child the most Scar ways possible, perhaps even occasionally forgetting to keep it safe momentarily, and by the time it hatches, all the hermits would be stunned it somehow ended up a healthy child despite Grian and Scar being the parents. The child would grow up the happiest, most mischievous little gremlin on the server, and they would all adore it.
I know this has been done a million times, but I love painter x model AUs. Never beating the muse allegations...
Imagine it though. And yes, I'm making this about Scarian, sue me. But imagine Scar getting a new model as a reference for his art, only for it to be the prettiest human being he has ever seen. Golden hair, fair skin, dark, mysterious eyes that seem to be mischievous like a teenager's and pained like a woeful old man's at the same time. So he abandons his original idea and decides to paint Grian instead, because how could he not? And then he puts him in the sunlight to pose and, oh, he's done for. The way the light catches on his every feature, wrapping him in a soft light like the sun only shines to highlight his beauty... the way it dances across his body, every curve, rise and dip outlined... Scar is falling hard and fast, quite literally, he misses his chair when sitting down to create a first sketch.
And then it doesn't work. He simply doesn't possess the ability to portray Grian in a way that he deems worthy of him, and it gets even worse when he gets to the face. Bevause everything else, he can blame on struggling with the medium, the lighting, the pose, but being unable to get the features right, especially the eyes, which are one of the most captivating, unique features Grian has in his opinion, just won't do, and he has spent too much time and energy to abandon the project. So he goes by the theory of Amedeo Modigliani, deciding the key to "getting it right" is to get to know Grian, all of him, every thought, memory, and idea behind those eyes. All for the love of the craft, of course.
This isn't as good as what I usually write, but I enjoyed it anyway :D

Crimson Stains - aka Brightest Star AU's obligatory period comfort fic
So, for this, I imagine Scar subconciously noticed the hormone changes that happen during periods early, especially with Grian getting cranky and miserable the week before (I am unbearable to be around during that time 😅), so he starts sticking around him more, his body getting the impression that his mate might be sick or something. He notices Grian's period starting before Grian himself does, because of course he does, and confusion and quite a bit of panic ensue.
Feedback is always appreciated!
"You smell strange."
Grian's brows furrowed, his mind being involuntarily ripped out of his thoughts, which had just been so pleasant. He had been standing in the middle of the room, talking to Cleo, when Scar had come and just wrapped himself around him, burying his nose in his neck like he had been starved of Grian's touch, even though it had been less than half an hour since they had last seen eachother. Still, he decided to indulge. "What do you mean, "strange"?"
Scar hummed disapprovingly, pulling him closer. "I don't know, you just... you just smell different than normal." He tilted Grian's chin up, looking down into the other's eyes, his own wide and full of worry. "Are you okay?"
Grian took a moment to actually consider the question, absentmindedly running a hand over Scar's arm to try to soothe him. "I'm pretty sure I'm alright. I've been feeling down the past few days, but it might just be mood swings, for whatever reason."
That had Scar pressing his forehead against Grian's from above him, his voice a pleading murmur in his human's ear. "Can we go to Cub to get it checked out? I just want to be sure. You haven't been on the ship for long, what if something here is hurting you? What if we missed something?"
Knowing he wouldn't give up any time soon if he believed something was actually wrong with him, Grian relented. "Yeah, alright. It's going to be okay though, it's not that dramatic."
The alien huffed, gathering him into his arms and picking him up, while relishing in the surprised noise the other made. ""It's not that dramatic"? I know you, Starling. You'd tell me you're fine even if you were bleeding out in front of me."
After a moment of thinking about what he had just said, he shook his head. "Actually, I don't want to think about that," he muttered quietly, and proceeded to carry a squirming, half-heartedly complaining Grian to Cub.
Once they had made it to the scientist's office, the other alien rose an eyebrow at the worried rambling he was presented with instead of clear symptoms. When Scar was finally done, Cub let out a long, exhausted sigh. "I'm sure he's fine, Scar. Humans are strange creatures, they work differently than us. This might be just a case of waiting it out." "And what could it be?" Scar interrupted, his tail curling around Grian's leg to keep him close and reassure himself.
Cub shrugged. "Who knows? Even humans can't explain a lot of what's happening with their bodies, especially in people with," he shot Grian a glance, "his reproductive organ."
Scar frowned, his tail tightening around Grian's leg. "What, so you're just not going to do anything?"
"I will do something if he gets worse," Cub soothed, gently guiding the two towards the door, a polite but unmistakable "get out, I have actual work to do".
Once they were out in the corridor again, Scar pulled his human close once more, mumbling stubbornly against his neck. "He doesn't know what he's talking about. You wouldn't be like this if something wasn't wrong, I saw how uncomfortable you were yesterday, how irritated you got. Something's not right, and I will find out what it is." He pulled back, hoping to meet Grian's gaze. "If anything happens, tell me, okay? We can fix it."
Grian nodded, even though he had a strange feeling Scar wouldn't be able to fix it. And he would be correct, as it turned out.
In the middle of the following night, Scar shook him awake, his expression filled with barely concealed panic. "Grian, you're bleeding!"
The words barely registered in Grian's sleepy mind, and he ran a hand down his body instinctively, looking for an injury. Except for a dull but strong ache in his lower stomach, he didn't feel any pain. "Wha-...? I feel fine."
"But you're not," Scar insisted, already sniffing down his entire body, trying to find the source of the smell, while trembling hands roamed Grian's body. Any other day, Grian might've enjoyed that, but Scar's obvious distress rose him quickly and he sat up, only to be pressed back down onto the matress.
"Don't move, what if you make it worse?" Scar hissed, and froze as soon as his nose reached Grian's hips. Without thinking, he buried it in the other's pants, and Grian yelped. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"You're bleeding from here", the other declared, his panic visibly rising further.
It took Grian a moment to catch up with the haze of sleep still slowing down his brain, but then it clicked, and he sank back into the matress with a tired, miserable chuckle. "I'm fine, Scar. Stop freaking out."
Scar's brows furrowed, his hands coming up to grip Grian's wrists tightly. "Don't lie to me. You're bleeding, you sound like you're in pain, and I can tell something's wrong, even though you haven't lost a lot of blood." He pulled his human up and dragged him along, ignoring all further reassurances, his mind focused on nothing but the fact that his mate was hurting.
As they made their way through the ship, he kept looking back at Grian, trying to see anything about his demeanor changed even ever so slightly. "Don't you dare die on me," he choked out, his voice laced with desperation.
"If you'd just let me explain-" Grian tried, but he was ignored, and it wasn't long before they were standing in front of a grumpy, tired looking Cub. Another wave of rambling, full of fear this time, assaulted the other alien's ears, but this time, his eyes widened in concern and he went to take action.
"Alright, alright. Panicking won't help here," he said as soon as Scar had to take a breath in between sentences, shooting his friend's wildly swinging tail a scolding look. "Grian, sit down. We're going to get to the bottom of this." He guided Grian to sit on a cushioned table, where the human squirmed in protest. "Guys, it's fine-"
"Enough." Scar's eyes narrowed at him, though the effect of the glare was dampened by the tears forming in the corners of his eyes. "I said yesterday you'd tell me you were okay even if you were bleeding out, and I wish you wouldn't be proving me right right now."
"I'm not bleeding out!" Slowly, Grian was growing desperate as well. "Will you please just listen to me for a moment?"
Cub, who had just been preparing to dive into his vagina to try to find an injury or other cause, paused.
"What are you waiting for? We might be losing important seconds here!" Scar complained, but he was ignored as Cub turned back to Grian. "Alright, fine. Your bleeding is not that dramatic yet. But hurry up."
Grian exhaled sharply, turning his head away. "This is a normal human phenomenon," he explained. "I'm shedding my uterus lining. It happens every month."
Two stunned aliens stared at him in silence, before a loud, fearful "What?!" echoed through the room, and a split second later, Scar was kneeling in front of him, his eyes filled with worry and lingering fear, as well as sympathy. "You almost bleed out every month?!"
Grian chuckled lightly, shaking his head. "No, I don't lose that much. I just feel terrible and I'm in pain."
"And that's normal?" The alien in front of him was visibly stuck between shock, disbelief, concern, and admiration.
"Yeah."
Scar shook his head, wrapping his arms around Grian's waist to pull him close and bury his nose in the other's stomach, trying to ground himself. After taking a while to process what he had just discovered, he muttered weakly: "Are you sure you like being human? I'm sure we could figure something out..."
Grian bit his lip, trying not to appear as tempted as he was. "I don't think that's possible," he whispered back, gently running his hands through the other's hair.
"But I don't want you going through this! How can you just accept it like that?!" Scar lifted his head, and Grian had to keep himself from melting into a puddle right then and there at how much his alien looked like a fearful child, clutching at his stomach as if he could make his pain go away if he just believed in it hardly enough.
"I haven't really had much of a choice," he replied sheepishly, and cut Scar off before more protest could follow. "Speaking of which, I haven't got any of the things here that I usually use when this happens." He looked over at Cub, who nodded dutifully. "Of course, what do you need?" "I'll need something to suck up the blood so it doesn't stain my clothes... and painkillers if you have any."
That brought a frown to Cub's face. "Painkillers... I don't think we have any you could safely take. We'll have to stock up, but for now... I could only offer you this." He rummaged through a cupboard for a moment and pulled out a box, handing it to Grian. It was filled with a thick, yellow paste.
"What is this?" Grian shot the scientist a confused look.
"It's the most absorbent material we have, an organic plant fiber from a planet we visited about a month ago", Cub explained patiently. "It should be safe for you to use and you can easily dispose of it however you want."
Scar's eyes narrowed again and he pulled Grian even closer, as if to shield him from the other alien's gaze. "It "should be safe"? We're not risking that-"
"It's going to be fine, I trust Cub." Grian tilted Scar's head up using the hand still buried in his hair, and leaned down to place a kiss on the other's forehead. "Now could you please get off the floor? It's going to get cold."
"I don't care," Scar muttered stubbornly, but he got up regardlessly and pulled Grian into his arms. "Is there anything I can do to help? I don't want you to suffer."
Grian hummed quietly in appreciation. Was there anything he could say that wouldn't make him sound embarassingly needy? "I mean... I guess, if you really want to help..." he trailed off, unsure whether to continue.
Scar's grip on his waist tightened. "Then what? What can I do, Starling? Please."
"Well... it's basically just that I feel awful, so you could comfort me like you would if something had happened. Other than that... heat helps with the pain, back on earth I always put heating pads on my lower stomach when things got difficult."
Immediatly, the alien nodded eagerly. "Heat, comfort. Got it. Anything else? Food, drinks?"
Grian's expression softened at Scar's eagerness. "I... I usually eat absurd amounts of chocolate to help me feel better," he confessed, avoiding Scar's gaze, but the other wasn't having it, and tilted his face back towards him. "Chocolates. We can get that, I'm sure. I'll bully our food providers if I have to." Noticing Grian's obvious discomfort, he added in a softer tone: "It's okay. There's nothing to be afraid or ashamed of, you said it was natural."
"Yeah, but I still... I feel disgusting, inside and out. And it is natural, but it still makes me feel like I'm some gross creature."
Listening to those words, Scar's gaze hardened, and he reached up to grip Grian's shoulders, his expression growing colder. "Who told you that? Who taught you you're disgusting for having a beautiful, healthy, well functioning body?"
Grian had already been having a hard time not getting overly emotional at the way Scar was so determined to care for him, but that was enough to break down the last restraints he had had on himself. What had he ever done to deserve this guy...?
He caught Scar completely off guard as he wrapped his arms around him and sobbed into his shoulder, which had the other's anxiety skyrocketing. "Grian? Are you alright? Are you in pain? What's happening?"
Grian only pressed himself tighter against him, sniffling. "No, I just... I really needed to hear that..."
Before Scar could answer, Cub cleared his throat behind them. "Not to ruin the moment or anything, but Grian, your pants are bloodstained."
"Oh..." Grian quickly seperated from Scar, frantically checking for the stain, and it was there, dark crimson on khaki, small for now, but it wouldn't stay that way. He grabbed the box with the strange yellow substance with one hand and Scar's hand with the other, and left for their quarters.
The alien didn't resist being pulled along, but he eventually spoke up. "I know this might be a bad time, but I really want to know more about this, how your experience with it is. If you could-"
"I'll tell you later." Grian's voice didn't leave any room for argument. Back in their shared room, he pushed Scar onto the bed and went to the bathroom to change.
Surprisingly, the gooey paste didn't feel nearly as disgusting as he had assumed, in fact, it was sort of warm. For a brief moment, he discussed with himself if it was really safe, but his discomfort won over.
Back in their bedroom, Scar had prepared a few blankets and a heating pad, which was apparently something his species had as well, but it was much larger than what Grian was used to, taking up most of the space on the bed. He rose an eyebrow at the device. "What is this?"
"It's a heating pad, like you said." Scar tilted his head in confusion.
"Yeah, but it- it's massive!" "Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be? You need to fit on it, don't you?"
Grian facepalmed and went over to test the waters. The device did feel comfortable and warm, but he already dreaded lying on his stomach the entire time. "You don't have anything... smaller?"
"No. These are used in pregnancy, mostly. The entire female has to fit on it," Scar explained, gesturing toward the bed. Grian shook his head and climbed onto it, pulling his knees to his chest and curling up, he didn't feel like thinking Scar's words over or trying to understand anything at the moment. The warmth instantly soothed him, it was comforting and sleep-inducing, and he closed his eyes, taking a moment to just bask in it. Everything would be okay.
Scar came over and carefully wrapped him in several blankets, his eyes sparkling with worry. "Chocolates are on the way. Anything else I can do?"
Grian grumbled something unintelligent at the interruption of his momentary peace. He unceremoniously grabbed Scar to yank him down onto the bed beside himself and cuddle up to him, feeling the other's arms instinctively wrap around him, protective and reassuring, and he melted into the feeling. "Just stay here with me..." he mumbled, a pleading undertone in his voice he didn't have the willpower to surpress.
A low, soothing rumble started up in Scar's chest, and he wrapped himself tighter around Grian, ensuring the other wouldn't move an inch without him noticing. "Of course. Whatever you want."
