WARNING
The dissolution of the early forums and websites this community used to gather on means that a lot of history and culture has been lost. "Library of Alexandria" amounts of lost history. For this reason, you have to write. I don't care if you don't think you're a good writer. And for this reason, you must create art, whether that means paintings, picrews, poetry, or flash fiction. It doesn't matter if you're not a "good" artist.
And not only must we create - we must add to the archive. The alterhuman archive is alive and kicking, and I highly suggest we add our creative works to the mix.
We are in danger of being forgotten. We cannot let that happen.
I don't remember if i shared the first iteration of my wing design, but heres an updated version!
I'm changing them to be more lightweight, flexible, and to be a more streamline shape
I'm sort of combining the ideas of my first wings, my plan for the second, and a recent idea i had to give me better articulation of the wing fingers and better fit my anatomy both as a humanoid and as a dragon.
This was the shape they were before, and I strapped my arm and paw in instead of making a sleeve. I started construction with this design and it's just too bulky and doesnt follow my actual anatomy

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 (2014) dir. Dean DeBlois
Am I a Therian? [A Greymuzzle's Insight]
"Am I a Therian?" you ask with a quizzical expression.
"I like bathing in the sun. I hate taking baths. I'm highly active at 3am," you explain, and so you conclude, "I must be a cat therian!"
Why?
Don't humans also like sitting in warm sunlight? Don't some humans hate the sensation of baths? Aren't some humans more active at night than at day?
Aren't those normal human behaviors?
"I like to howl, bark, and growl! I like to dig in the dirt and play tug-a-war!" you shout excitedly, and so you conclude, "I must be a dog therian!"
Why?
Don't humans also like to be vocal; shouting, hollering, and yelping? Don't some humans love digging in the dirt to see what's beneath? Do you not see the kids playing tug-a-war? Aren't those normal human behaviors?
"But..." you pause and you think. You finally state, "I feel a call to Nature. I feel at home among the trees, when my bare feet touch the Earth. I feel a pain in my heart when looking at my body, like it doesn't feel right. Surely that means I'm a Therian."
Why?
Aren't there humans who feel a call to Nature? Who live by themselves in the woods? Aren't there humans who also feel like something is missing with themselves?
Aren't those normal human behaviors?
"Then how do I know if I'm a Therian?"
Why... are you asking me?
You clearly know yourself better than I do. You have already given so many reasons as to why you must be a Therian, right? So why ask me what you are?
"Cause you're a Therian, too, aren't you?" you ask.
"I am," comes the answer.
"So then tell me," you urge with impatience. "Am I a Therian?"
"I can not tell you," comes another answer. "Because I do not know. I do not know your identity. I do not know what bristles beneath your skin or echoes in your heart."
There are no set rules to define someone who is a Therian. There is no checklist to go through to determine who is a Therian. There are no guidelines to follow under to know who is a Therian.
"Are you an animal?" comes the question. "Are you, in any sense or form, an animal?"
You pause. And you think.
You already know the answer.
"I am an animal."
Then congratulations.
You're a Therian.
shoutout to the Argentinian alterhumans for getting an AP News article
#don't know about this one article but the local news were treating them kinda like shit#like they were ridiculed for A WHILE#by the news social media and just people in general#it wasnt a good time#now people've forgotten about it cause theres bigger problems
this article doesn't feel actively disrespectful to me, but it's also pretty standard "normies first encounter with non-human identities" fare. i don't really like how they say one person "claim to" identify as a Belgian Malois (its not wrong but its weird to emphasize "they claim to" instead of just saying that is their identity. like, yeah, the only person who can decide if they identify that way is them, so... ?)
they also include an interview with a psychologist to answer the question of "Should parents be worried?" which is annoying and unnecessary pathologization, but she doesn't make a big deal out of it, so it could be worse. the video attached to the article actually includes a mother of a therian who seems very supportive, which is lovely. but then its like, i think instead of getting a quote from a psychologist, it would've been better to just include quotes from supportive parents and therians themselves to assuage any fears that being an alterhuman is in some way unhealthy or bad.
what's amusing/annoying to me is just how they don't contextualize any of this at all. therian/otherkin/alterhuman identity has been around in the modern context since afaik the 90s/2000s. i was having my first encounters with it in the 2010s. if more people in LatAm have been getting involved in it then that's cool! but they just have a few brief quotes from the therians themselves, which doesn't really allow people to understand the community's perspective and the nuances and variations across people's identities, and portray very vaguely as some strange recent internet trend. which, again, not really surprising.
I DO really like their face masks tho!
& ultimately its cool & good to see alterhumans in non-anglophone places and alterhumans connecting with others, regardless of how the media portrays them. i'm not really giving AP News any credit; i'm glad the therians themselves are existing publicly and forming community.
Minor correction: The otherkin community, as we know it, can be traced back to the late 60s/early 70s
Though the word 'otherkin' wasn't coined until 1990 :)
The therian community, however, can be traced back to 1993
And the dragon community to circa 1995 (though it probably formed around the same time as the therian community)
The unicorn community also appeared independently of the otherkin, therian, and draconic communities. Twice, actually, within days of each other
And though there is some debate, 2001 is largely considered the birth of the modern fictionkin community (I disagree, since the Elf Queen's Daughters, back in the 70s, consisted of Tolkien elves and hobbits, but that's neither here nor there)
Anyway, the point stands: We've been here longer than most of the journalists reporting on us have probably been alive.

Therians! What's a common misconception about your theriotype(s)?
For me, it's size. Most people seem to think snow leopards are comparable to lions or tigers, but we're on average under 100lbs/45kg and less than 2ft/60cm tall at the shoulder :)
Not so much a misconception, but people eternally mix my kind up with jaguars and even cheetahs. I’m sure members of those species also feel my pain. -Tree(leopard)
Coyotes are NOT WOLVES!!! They are fundamentally different, especially in a social sense. Our social structure is the reason we have survived the US's attempts on eradicating us while wolves have suffered. I'm tired of people acting like therian coyotes are therian wolves that just "want to be different"
(sorry for the harsh tone I just feel strongly about this lmao)
trying to think of misconceptions for dragons is hard because for every assumption people have about us there is at least one dragon out there who fulfills it to a T. so ill just do this for endermen (my other kintype) instead.
no, we are not evil. yes we kill players. yes we steal blocks. yes we break into your house basically whenever we want. but i mean. were nice. were literally nice. were literally just silly guys! were silly. you agree. :]
Wolfbloods and werewolves are different.
Werewolves are a type of "monster", they tend to be violent towards humans and incapable of controlling themselves when transformed. Oftentimes werewolves are created from a previously regular human due to curses or being "infected", and will usually behave like a normal human in their day to day life when not transformed (though it does depend). Lots of times transforming also causes amnesia.
Wolfbloods on the other paw, are not monstrous. They are their own species, one must be born a wolfblood and cannot be a "transformed human". Most live in harmony with humans, or at least don't go out of their way to harm them. They are always "part wolf" even when not shifted, so their instincts and animalistic abilities remain a consistent aspect of their day to day lives despite being in human forms. They also have extra abilities that connect them deeper to the world around them, like Eolas. No amnesia when transforming.
Also, african wild dogs and hyenas are not the same species, they're not even in the same family lol
"Wildform"
A depiction of what it feels to be in-between shapes, and where I like to imagine myself in this awkward form.
Most days I feel like a weird amalgamation of body parts that don't fit into the body I have. An ever changing mass of limbs, shifting and distorting, trying to shape itself into something it physically cannot. I overcompensate for my movements, lowering my posture as if ready to drop on all fours, I duck my head an extra depth to fit my ears below an obstacle, adjust the way I sit to make space for my tail or walk on my toes to acclimate to the feeling of paws.
Some days my phantom sensations are so strong that I feel it in my entire body. It is so physically distressing to viewing a body does not match the sensation or move in the way that it should. It can be emotionally difficult to move my body and sometimes | feel stuck, unable to move at all. It is an uncomfortable disconnection between mind and body.
Lately l've found drawing the physical sensations of my phantom shifts to be quite therapeutic and healing - especially in those moments I feel stuck. I feel as though this is a big jump in my digital art capability too, I'm very proud of this one! 🐾
Incredibly sad that there's no animal POV videos out there that are just hours long. I just want to sit there, stare at the screen and pretend to be that animal for a while.
