It's official! Mexico City bans dolphinaria The new law came into force on May 4th and includes the banning of all dolphin 'experiences' including shows, swim-with programmes', assisted therapy and travelling shows. This means that within six months, Dolphin Discovery Six Flags will have to move their marine mammals to one or more of the company's existing marine parks.

Good news! The Federal Service for Supervision of Use of Natural Resources of Russia (RosPrirodNadzor) called off the application of TAC (total allowable catch) for capturing marine mammals in 2020, said Oganes Targulyan, a leading expert at Greenpeace России ⠀ This document (TAC) was provided by the Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo). ⠀ "The letter of the RosPrirodNadzor says this TAC is “not in conformity with the the law”. That is, in fact, a negative decision. These documents were refused because the materials do not comply with the law," Targulyan explained. ⠀ The Russian laws allow the catch of marine animals only to indigenous peoples of the North on a separate quota, or for scientific, cultural and educational goals. ⠀ To obtain a quota (TAC), an application to Rosprirodnadzor is to be submitted. After passing the State Environmental Expertise, an opinion is issued on the materials of the total allowable catch (TAC) for one year. ⠀ In the official response to the request for 2020 marine mammals quota, Rosprirodnadzor reports that the experts found that the submitted TAC materials did not comply with the current legislation in the field of environmental protection. ⠀ However, Oganes Targulyan also clarified that the application for TAC-2020 can be changed and filed again. ⠀ Let's support zoodefenders!
