Domain Name Generator and Business ideas. If we can't find your domain name, it probably doesn't exist!
(Summary: ICANN reserves the .onion TLD for TOR networks, with SSL capability) - The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)—a department within the organization that oversees the domains of the internet known as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)—along with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), designated the .onion domain, used for sites hosted on the Tor network, as a “Special Use Domain,” giving it an official status that it previously lacked. With this change, the IETF and IANA “recognize that there are legitimate reasons to use the Tor anonymity network and its hidden services,” Runa Sandvik, a security researcher who has worked with the Tor Project in the past, told Motherboard in an email. This also means that from now on, the .onion domain can only be used within the Tor network. Nobody can claim that domain on the regular internet. And, more importantly, this opens up the possibility for .onion sites administrators to get security certificates and enable encryption on their sites.

What is the purpose of the WWW subdomain?
What’s the point of having www.? Isn’t it just useless extra text? Since everyone is used to it, http://www.google.com looks more well-balanced than google.com, but why did it start in the first place?
One thing I noticed, is that google.com has the IP of 74.125.53.100, in the UK, while http://www.google.com has the IP of 209.85.135.106, in the US. Could…

What is the purpose of a domain?
I am new to the world of server configurations and am having a hard time coming to grasps what a domain is especially in an internal environment. For example I have read and been told the best naming convention to use for an internal domain is domain_name.local. However I have no idea of the purpose of having a domain and what it does?
The second question I have…

I’m a developer and I’m having trouble setting up some hosting, and I hope you guys can help me out.
I’ve got a domain I’m setting up for a friend. URLs work fine when I use the short form, like
http://domainname.com
That is, the pages render properly and I get HTTP/200 responses. When I try
http://www.domainname.com
I…

Redirect all non-www subdomains to main www domain with Apache2
I have a website (domain.com) and I would like to redirect all my secondary domains (domain2.com, domain3.com) and all the subdomains of these domains (*.domain.com, *.domain2.com…) to the main domain, http://www.domain.com (because I want the latter to be the only URL to gain access to the site).
For this purpose, I have created an…

Who is a good registrar these days?
It’s been a long time since I’ve had to register a new domain.
What registrar is considered geek and sysadmin friendly?
I’ve heard that godaddy will screw you 10 ways to Sunday, and a lot of the other ones basically only lease you the domain. So if I want to own the domain and not get screwed, who’s the best these days, and why?
