From today’s Dominion Post 1/03/2016, Select 3 stories that are of some interest to you…

Sketch and describe what’s interesting about each. Is it the content, aesthetic or descriptive information (meta info)? A mix of all three?

How does each story relate to the overall newspaper? Location within? Associated section?

What editorial components make up each story? (Photos, Headlines, Captions, Author, Pull-quotes, main article etc?)

Once you have identified the print version of the story in the tasks above, start on the following similar tasks online…

Find, describe and sketch the same 3 stories within www.stuff.co.nz

What’s the web address (URL) of each?

Compared to the editorial components of the print version, how do each differ for the online version?

Track and record a user journey for each of the 3 stories.

Consider how would you redesign each user journey? What might make it better?

How do you click through to, or reach, each story?

Where else can you go from the story?

We will continue on Friday by redesigning the user journey’s and then user test them.

Could somebody suggest to the Dom post that the next time they report on a potential serial killer pushing people into canals in Manchester, they should perhaps consider using a photo where somebody hasn't vandalized the street sign pictured to read 'anal street.'
