hello friends i had a bit of a break from tumblr and tbh im not even sure why

i randomly tend to forget about apps and it happened at least once with every single app i have

so to tell you what ive been up to

during my break i:

- turned 21 (oh god)

- started university

- moved back home with my parents

- cried a lot

- wrote a lot of poetry

- got diagnosed with another funny disease

- picked up cross stitching again (pic below)

my aesthetic: sans portrayed as confident, even a little bit obnoxiously so. remember that line that went “i’m pretty good at my job, huh? ;D” it seemed almost cocky and i like that.

Chris McLeanOverall: 10.

Chris McLean is a little bit generation-defining, when you think about it. I have no idea how TD managed to do it, but I consider him easily one of the most recognizable cartoon characters of my youth, and I was the target demographic for this show when it first aired on Cartoon Network-- and I didn’t even watch past the first season originally. Even a casual fan can probably hear his distinct sign-off right now, mouth “right here on Total! Drama! Islaaaaand!” in perfect time with the episode. That alone is noteworthy in itself.

But that aside, I honestly adore Chris in the same sort of way you love to hate just about any classic cartoon villain. I don’t know how popular the notion is that he got worse as the season went on anymore, but I just don’t agree. He gets very extreme, yes, but honestly? I maintain that the more surreal the show got, the more entertaining it typically became. And I think, all things considered, there’s a case for Chris having a complete rise-and-fall character arc throughout the seasons he hosts, and it’s easily one of my favorite parts about the show. It’s just satisfying, seeing his fall from grace-- but furthermore, it’s just fun.

Not a perfect character, not immune to writing stumbles-- but I wouldn’t have him any other way.

DonOverall: 8.5-9.

I definitely hear a lot of people say they either miss Chris or find Don jarring when starting TRR, and to some extent, I get it. But to be honest, I was sold on him completely from the first few episodes. There’s enough difference in the way he uses humor and the way he builds a rapport with contestants that distinguishes him as his own character, even though he does currently only have one season to develop.

If anything, constant comparisons to Chris make me more inclined to find the differences between them, which leads me to my one critique and why I do rank Don overall lower than Chris: because he only has one season, he has room to grow as a character, but the flipside is that we’re left with a lot of questions as to what kind of person he really is. There are a few jokes that have me laughing but wondering how much he really means and how much is just a joke, and headcanons aside ( I personally maintain he started showbiz as a comedian ) there’s only so much you can fill in before you want more concrete answers.

It is interesting to consider him as the new darling of reality television, though; if we assume the same producers in-universe did TD and TRR, positioning Don as the new golden boy of the studio is fascinating, especially considering his predecessor and how far he fell in his last season.

So, yeah, like him a lot, but I do deduct points simply because he’s got a lot of room to grow and best not count chickens before they hatch-- after all, Chris started out pretty different. Who knows what the future holds for Don!
