Top 5 Peta Partners
Now that we have a new crop of pros that have been on for a pretty long time, I can finally bring this series back. I will start with the wife of the man I left off with. Let’s go through some of my favorite Peta partnerships.
5. Brant and Peta, Season 17
I am going to be honest here. Brant is up here instead of Michael Sam, because he actually got a real season. Brant’s first few dances were pretty wack to me. He was clearly talented and had a lot of potential. But he and Peta rested on their showmance thing at the beginning. Somewhere around the midpoint of the season, they dropped that and Peta actually checked into the competition. From that point on, I actually enjoyed them. Brant wasn’t amazing, but he had some standout moments. In any other season (like season 18), he might’ve made the finals. I think he had one more gear to unlock. But a top 7 finish in this wildly unpredictable season was definitely an accomplishment. Favorite Dances: Quickstep, Contemporary, Tango
4. James and Peta, Season 18
James was pretty much a redux of Peta’s partnership with Brant. I think the differences here were that Peta hadn’t just come off of a season with an annoying Bachelor and that James was a better Latin dancer. So it didn’t take Peta as long to get going with the teaching and choreography and James’s Latin was easier to watch. They did have their off moments (like that strange samba), but it wasn’t often. This pair was definitely enjoyable and definitely one of Peta’s shining moments as a pro in this competition. Favorite dances: Jive, Jive Duet, Contemporary
3. Nyle and Peta, Season 22
As a teacher and a choreographer, this was one of Peta’s best two seasons. Peta had to change up her approach to teaching Nyle. She was patient and kind when teaching him. She was caring. Peta was also very creative and pushed her choreography in ways that she had never done before. While they were not my favorite couple this season, I really did enjoy them, their win was much deserved and it was historic. Favorite dances: Cha-cha, Samba
2. Donald and Peta, Season 14
I actually did not care for this couple at the very beginning of season 14. But as the season went on, they continued to improve and they won me over. Donald was a huge fan of the show and I feel like that coupled with Peta wanting to prove herself after being the first to exit with Metta in the previous season really made them compete at a super high level. With all the odds stacked against them, they still pulled out the win. And for that, I have to commend them. Favorite dances: 2nd Argentine Tango, Trio Jive, 2nd Cha-cha
1. Tommy and Peta, Season 19
This partnership was one I really didn’t expect to make it far or even enjoy as much as I did. These two didn’t take themselves too seriously. They just did what they were able to do, they entertained the fans and just let the chips fall where they may. And it got them all the way to the semi-finals! And the thing is, Tommy wasn’t even a bad dancer. He was actually decent and sometimes even really good. This was the season that I felt Peta was at her best. She was locked in, her choreography was great and she made memorable dances with her partner. I loved watching these two so much. Favorite dances: Cha-cha, Argentine Tango
