A Tribute to Cannonball is a studio album by jazz pianist Bud Powell and tenor saxophonist Don Byas, released on Columbia in March 1979, featuring a session recorded at the Studio Charlot in Paris on 15 December 1961, with Pierre Michelot on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums, and trumpeter Idrees Sulieman guesting on four tracks.

During the years 1944 and 1945, tenor saxophonist Don Byas was at the peak of his creative power, serving as a vital bridge between the Swing era and the emerging Bebop movement.

AllMusic reviewer Scott Yanow awarded the album four and half stars, stating:"Don Byas was one of the great tenor saxophonists of the 1940s, a Coleman Hawkins-influenced improviser who developed a complex style of his own. His permanent move to Europe in 1946 cut short any chance he had of fame, but Byas recorded many worthy performances during the two years before his departure. On Classics' first Don Byas CD (which contains his first 21 numbers as a leader), Byas matches wits and power with trumpeter Charlie Shavers on two heated sessions that include pianist Clyde Hart and bassist Slam Stewart. He also plays swing with trumpeter Joe Thomas and pianist Johnny Guarnieri in a 1945 quintet and leads a quartet that, on four of its eight numbers, welcomes the great blues guitarist/singer Big Bill Broonzy. This music was originally put out by Savoy, Jamboree, and Hub. Highly recommended."

Midnight at Minton’s is an album by jazz musician Don Byas, first released in 1973. It is a live recording of a 1941 jam session at Minton’s Playhouse, the New York City nightclub at which the emerging style of bebop was being pioneered. Earl Hines "Hine's Tune" 珍しいフランスでのコンサート・ライヴ録音盤と言うことで飛び付いてしまいました。 しかも1965年の録音なので、1964年の復活以降、米国内外で精力的にライヴ活動に飛び回っていた頃の名演の記録です。 録音評ですが... 録音年ではSumico Pearlですが、軽すぎますね。ライヴなのでShure SC35Cを推奨します。柔らかくて疲れない結構いい音、私は好きですね。 本作はメンバーが豪華ですが、ライナーの記載が明確ではありません。 ハインズ本人がメンバーを一人ずつ紹介して、段々増えていく珍しい演奏です。曲はとても短く、一曲ずつ聴きながら追いかけて確認したいと思います。 当然ピアノは #EarlHines です。 Face A A(1) "Hine's Tunes" B(2) "Rosetta" 冒頭2曲はハインズのソロ。笑顔が思い浮かぶような実に彼らしいインプロビゼーション。 C(3) "The One I Love Belongs To Someone Else" ジミー・ウッドのベースとのデュオとは珍しい。 D(4) "You Ave The Cream In My Coffee" さらに、ケニー・クラークのドラムスが加わりトリオに。 E(5) "Bag's Groove " ドン・バイアスのテナーも加わりカルテットに。 F(6) "I Can't Get Started" さらに、スタッフ・スミスのヴァイオリン。ちょっと長め。バスルームのような音色でマイクの位置が良くないかも、若干ビビりますね。 G(7) "Blue Turning Grey Over You" ベン・ウェブスターが登場、会場は一番の声援、甘くムーディな音色が包み込みます。 H(8) "Petite Laitue" 愉快？なドン・エルリッジのヴォーカル。 I(9) "Don's Blues" ドン・バイアスのテナーが加わったカルテットですが、音質がいいですね。明らかに違いますので、別日の収録では？ J(10) "Cherry" 今度はベン・ウェブスターのテナーが加わったカルテット。これも音質がいいです。 Face B K(1) "Tenderly" 滑らかなドン・バイアスのテナーがメインのカルテット。Face Aとは音質が異なるので別日の録音だと思いますが、I(9)と同じでは？いい音質だと思います。 L(2) "Sweet Lorraine" 今度は、ベン・ウェブスターとハインズのヴォーカル。これは、J(10) と同じでは？音質はK(1)と似ていますので、つまりI,J,K,Lは別日の同じ収録ではないでしょうか。 M(3) "Boogie Woogie On St. Louis Blues" 最後は、ライナーにAll Musicianとの記述、A～Hと同じ収録です。ライナーとは違いますが、A～H, Mは1965年で月日不明、Enregistré à Paris, Mutualité 録音。I～Lが1965年11月3日、à Paris, Pleyel録音が正しいと思います。 #JimmyWoode (b) #KennyClarke (ds) #BenWebster (ts) #DonByas (ts) #RoyElridge (vo, tp) #StuffSmith (vi) ESOLDUN - INA からのFRANCE'S CONCERTレーベルでしょうか？ 品番はFC 101、DistributionはWotre Music - France。ライナーが英語とフランス語が混在してして、非常に分かり辛いです。 Coordinator - #AlexandreNoble , #EtienneLacoste , #JoëlArlot Documents Research - #JoëlArlot , #MoniqueVaysse , #YvesBuilly Compiled By - #FrankDufour Cover - #MichelNoble Liner Notes - #JacquesChesnel Concept By - #FrancisPaudras , #PhilippeMalausséna Phonographic Copyright - Esoldun Phonographic Copyright - INA Manufactured By - PDO, France Photography By - #ArchivesPaudras , #HermanLeonar #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード #stayhome *作品を知るとジャズはもっと輝きます。情報くださる先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CkAh5F_PwLk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
