"Oh my god that is KILLER COWGIRL ART!!!!"
This is what I said and how I said it when I entered my brother's house with my sister-in-law (#cowgirl, duh) a few weeks ago (California) and was confronted with the MAGNIFICENT buffalo painting above.
Yes — the Original! And it's BIG.
My jaw dropped and my suitcase followed suit... I stood there in awe.
Now, I have never been much of a fan of "Western art" because it's usually kinda wishy washy, overly realistic, and in muted or earthy colors, which don't do a thing for me (I am a southern California cowgirl after all).
But this. This. Can you feel the raw energy and the purest love of all?
Well, I can.
My sister-in-law has the distinct honor of knowing this local (Mojave Desert) artist, Donna Weil, and the lucky girl has bought something like six of her paintings!
I stood there that day and worshiped this buffalo. I coveted this buffalo.
This buffalo filled my heart with joy and broke it all at the same time.
And that went on for a while.
I was in their house for days, and I went and stood in front of this buffalo at least once a day. I was heartbroken to leave it behind. But at least it'll be there next time I go and it will always be there.
I bought prints of these paintings (because that's what my tax bracket allows), which I have scanned here, for y'all.
Google Donna, really. Her work is scattered all over the web, but I don't think all of her work is online, and I see her finding her groove in her latest stuff (because I went to a gallery and saw it In Person), so it's worth investigating if you, like me, ARE IN LOVE WITH THE BUFFALO and the wolf and the spectacular native American portraits and can you see their souls???
Well, I can.
Let me know if you want to talk to her about buying a painting because I am only one degree of separation from her! ;-)
xoxo
Pam
