Off I Go...to Japan
I'm headed to Japan for the next 11 days, a country I've dreamt of visiting since my fascination for Japanese culture began during my high school years. I don't speak a lick of Japanese and to put an extra twist on it all, I'll be traveling alone as my wife is being a good sport about it and agrees that I should take advantage of the extra flexibility I have these days with work. My last solo international trip was many years ago (South of France), so needless to say I'm anxious about the experience that lies ahead. I'll be staying in a series of hostels throughout Japan, which I'll post reviews about later, so wanting to pack as light as possible I went out and got a very fitting pair of sneakers that I'll wear the entire time in Japan plus another two and a half weeks in Taiwan immediately after. I've always believed Japan to have a very fun, yet respectful, beautiful, and well designed culture and something about these sneakers represent what I hope to see - I now very #meta.

I'll post some details of my intended itinerary later, but in general I'm trying to keep my plans loose leaving plenty of room for spontaneity. My intent is less focused on traveling to as many different spots as possible, and more about taking in the culture and being present in the moment on each day wherever it is I may be. I'd like to leave with a good sense of what it may be like to live in each area I'm staying in and be able to return with a comfortable familiarity for the next time I get the chance to visit. Off I go.
