It's not about a head band or looking cute. Also, no one's yelling racism. Certain styles are to keep African American hair looking neat as well as well maintained. As far as twists being bulky, um no. They're only that way with added extensions. If they keep taking away options, the only one left will be an afro. Try and see a helmet fit over that. It's a lot of work taking care of Afro-textured hair. You won't understand unless you have it yourself.
If you’re not yelling racism, why does the text say “These new changes are racially biased"?Although I may not have the hair myself, I do talk to and are close to people who do, and they have shared this valuable information with me previously. There are other hairstyles that natural hair can go into that is uniform and would not interfere with headgear. Additionally,The military is about uniformity, as harlequinewhoknows mentioned. The US Army personal grooming regulations state “The requirement for hair grooming standards is necessary to maintain uniformity within a military population.” Here’s the source for that. Finally, don’t use “if” statements to solidify your argument, that’s a logical fallacy, and it weakens your argument.
So, for a TL:DR. No racism. Military is for UNIFORMITY, not self-expression. Fallacies are bad ideas if you’re trying to make a point.
Thank you, and don’t come again.
