For the first time in his life, Obi-Wan was finally visiting another planet without either his father or his mother with him. Of course, his Grandfather was still with him, but that was something else. Grandparents were known to spoil their Grandchildren after all. That and Obi-Wan always enjoyed spending time with the older vampire, it never got boring. 

“Grandpa? What kind of building is that?” he pointed towards a large building with four tower like constructions.

“That, my child, is the Jedi Temple,” explained the man of nobility. His eyes got a dangerous glow for the briefest of moments, but Obi-Wan did not notice it, because his gaze was still resting on the infamous Jedi Temple.

“This is where SHE vanished to, right?” the redhead continued to ask, oblivious to the other’s foul mood.

“Most likely,” Yan nodded and laid a hand on his Grandson’s hair. A pair of blue-green eyes looked up at him. “Come, I need to take care of something, before I will show you the city… and perhaps we will find something to eat for you.” 

“Yes Grandpa,” he was quick to follow, as always, when food was involved. Yan could not help but chuckle. Youth and their voracious appetite.

Even while ‘negotiating’ with the dirty lot that called itself ‘bounty hunters’ Yan kept a close eye on his little boy. Obi-Wan was looking around, observing people and undoubtedly collecting new impressions. 

“About our business,” Yan leaned on the table and moved so that the criminals were forced to look directly into his eyes, his GLOWING eyes. It took almost no effort on his part, a testimony on how weak minded those criminals were. It was doubtful that they were actually of use, but at least they would be enough to distract the Jedi long enough, for him to get inside. What would happen to the incompetent lot afterwards, was of no consequence to him. 

“Grandpa, are you ready yet?” the redhead had appeared out of nowhere and now stood right next to the older vampire. Had Obi-Wan not already mastered the art of hypnosis, Yan would have made him watch.

“Just one more moment, my child.” He turned back to the bounty hunters. “You will be there?”

“Of course, Master,” the Rhodian nodded and with that, Yan’s business here was finished.

“Now, Obi-Wan, I think it is time we found you something to eat.” He himself was not hungry, but the redhead was a growing boy, who still needed his minerals and blood. It shouldn’t be too hard for them to find a suitable victim, after all they were in the lower levels of the city planet Coruscant. And it was widely known that no one cared for those low-level beings that lived here. If one or two of them vanished… then it would definitely not concern anybody of high status…

In the Dracula au can we see tahl have to calm quigon down during one of his angry moods due to a village woman saying bad things about tahl. With tahl convincing him to make the woman a ghoul or have one of her kids become an indentured servant to obiwan?

The moment Qui-Gon’s eyes turned a bloody red, was the moment that Tahl realized that she had to take matters into her own hands. It would not do their family any good, if her dear husband would give in to his primal instincts and tear apart the foul and obviously jealous woman right in front of the whole village.

“Who do you think you are?” growled Qui-Gon in a voice that was frightening and affecting everyone and everything around him. Cat were hissing, with their claws out and dogs began to either bark in challenge and in protection of their owners, or they turned tail and hid. “Who gives you the right to judge MY wife the way you do?”

The woman was clearly terrified, but there was also something else in her gaze and aura that Tahl could not quite place. She had a good guess, but no proof. 

“Dad,” Obi-Wan had jumped forward. He too was no stranger to his father’s dangerous side. As a young child - young is relative with him being a vampire - he had seen how his father and grandfather have teared apart a group of bandits that had not only threatened the village, but their family and status as well. It had been more of an accident really, because the redhead had not been supposed to follow the two older vampires, but Qui-Gon had forgotten something and as the sweet little boy that Obi-Wan usually was, he had just wanted to help.

“Not now, Obi-Wan,” it always surprised Tahl, how fast Qui-Gon could switch between angered and calm.

“On the contrary Qui-Gon,” Tahl had stepped forward now as well. A pair of blood red eyes landed on her and she took the moment to close the gap between them. Her husband was surprised at the kiss, but he did return it and Tahl counted that as a very good sign. “Don’t do it, she is not worth it,” she whispered for only the prince of vampires to hear.

A feral growl escaped the long haired man as he pulled away to turn to the woman. He mustered her for a few moments longer, right before his eyes turned to the blonde child at the woman’s side. The child had just appeared from the assembled crowd and was desperately clinging to the female’s dress. A predatory grin appeared on bearded features.

“Perhaps,” began the prince of the vampires, “it would do your family good to learn some respect and your place. Your boy,” he motioned to the blonde child, “he will come to the estate tomorrow, before the first ray of sun appears on the horizon. He shall serve my son and hopefully he learn from his mother’s mistakes.”

Shock and denial showed on the woman’s face and again there was something else. Tahl suddenly realized that it was disappointment, it was almost as if the female had WANTED the vampire to lose control. 

“What if I refuse?” challenged the female.

“Then you and your family will be punished accordingly,” answered Qui-Gon in an ice cold voice. He finally turned away from the scene. “We are going.”

Obi-Wan jumped forward and took his father’s left hand to calm him down and Tahl took his right hand. Together the vampire family left, aware of the stares at their backs.

“It could have gone much worse,” observed the honey skinned bloodsucker almost neutral.

“Indeed,” agreed Qui-Gon.

“Why does he have to be my servant?” pouted Obi-Wan. The boy preferred to have his privacy. He was actually quite independent. 

“It sprung to my mind. Besides, it might do you good to have a friend, even if it is a human boy,” said Qui-Gon. His son’s isolation was a thorn in his side and it was often a topic the father and son pair disagreed and fought on.

“Anakin, his name is Anakin,” said Obi-Wan and two pairs of eyes turned to him in surprise. The young vampire shrugged, “I make it my business to know everyone in the village, grandfather said it is important to. Still, I do not want him around me.”

“You will do as I say,” Qui-Gon replied, perhaps a little too harsh and Tahl wanted to interfere. She knew how sensitive her sweet boy could be, but before she could open her mouth, the redhead had pulled away. 

There was a clear challenge in his blue-green eyes and there was also the faintest hint of red in their depths. Tahl shuddered. Obi-Wan had inherited his temper and strength from his father and the fact that his grandfather had fed him his own blood in the beginning - Obi-Wan had been terrible weak after he had been born and Yan had hoped that it helped - had probably done him good too.

“You have no right to tell me, who I befriend,” his voice was not far from growling. His posture was tense.

Qui-Gon, who was just as taken aback by the unusual challenge of his son, was too stunned to form a reply and the young vampire used the opportunity to shapeshift into his favorite form - a young fox - and quickly vanished from sight.

“Obi-Wan!” Qui-Gon was already on the move, but the honey skinned woman at his side kept a grip on his hand and made him turn his attention to her.

“Let him go, he needs time for himself now.”

“But-,” he was interrupted.

“Our son can take care of himself, he is no child anymore.”

“He is barely 160 years old,” protested Qui-Gon. He was overprotective and Obi-Wan was entering a phase in his life, where he both started to rebel and got even more independent. 

“And therefore old enough to make his own decisions,” Tahl sighed. “We have to face it, Qui… our boy is growing up.”

Midnight blue eyes turned sad as they stared at the point, where Obi-Wan had vanished into the woods. “I know,” he sighed, “shall we?”

“After you,” and with that they returned to the estate, both thinking of passed memories…

In the Dracula au can we see jocasta use her new mindtrick on the native prey animals like deer and rabbits to drink giving the carcasses to the wise women because the venom is diluted enough that it won’t change a human. “I missed this,” Qui-Gon was aware of how sappy and mushy he sounded, but in this very moment, he could not care less. Way too long had it been, since he and his wife had been able to walk together in the moonshine. Way too long had it been, when he and Tahl had been reunited, PROPERLY reunited. 

“It is truly beautiful,” answered Tahl and she unconsciously stepped just a little closer to the tall man, who was calmly walking next to her. The air was cold and even though neither of them really felt it, they stayed close anyway.

“No,” said Qui-Gon, “You are.”

Abruptly did the honey skinned female stop walking. Her green-gold striped eyes looked right into the midnight blue eyes of her husband, whose expression was nothing but honest. 

She reached up with one hand and cupped his bearded cheek. “I love you,” mumbled Tahl and they sealed their lip together.

It was only a moment later, when a noise made them brake apart. The two vampires looked at each other and out of instinct, did Qui-Gon position himself between the strange noise and his wife. But Tahl would have none of it, she simply grabbed his wrist and dragged him into the bushes, so that they could approach the source silently and undetected.

“Aren’t that… the wise women?” whispered Qui-Gon. He had to squint against the light of the many fires.

“And the Jedi woman,” replied Tahl calmly. She too was observing what was going on. The female Jedi had a dead animal in her hand and was drinking from it, right before sipping a liquid from a greenish flask. The village wise women were standing around her, almost as if they kept watch.

“They are stopping the transformation,” exclaimed Qui-Gon surprised, but not loud enough for anyone besides Tahl to hear.

It was then that Jocasta Nu stood up, she looked a lot paler than she did, before the beginning of the transformation. She bowed and said something about ‘leaving and returning to Coruscant’, and then she walked into one of the nearby huts.

Again did the two vampires exchange glances. “We need to tell Yan,” stated the honey skinned female.

A sigh escaped the long haired bloodsucker. “And here ends our date,” but he nodded nevertheless.

“WHAT?” Yan’s voice could probably be heard through the whole castle, therefore it was to no surprise that the three vampires, who were in the same room as he, flinched at the volume. “How DARE she leave me?”

“Well, she still is an independent being with a free will,” Obi-Wan ignored the angry stare he received.

“She will most certainly not return to that wretched Temple of hers to report us, it would mean the end of our existence as we know it.” No one in the dining room was fooled, they knew that it was more his pride talking than his common sense. He wanted her to be at his side, the fact that she could reveal their secret, did not matter as much.

“What do you want to do against it?” asked Tahl carefully.

“I will go after her of course,” the oldest bloodsucker said it, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Can I come with you?” eagerness shone in blue-green eyes and the young redhead, hurried to his Grandfather’s side, with big pleading eyes.

A sigh escaped the Count. He knew that he had been beaten. “You may join me,” he said and as soon as those words had left his mouth, Obi-Wan was on the run again, probably planning what to pack for the journey.

“How nice that we are asked first,” grumbled Tahl, her husband just put his arm over her shoulder. 

“Let our son be, my dear.”

“Well, I shall prepare for the departure as well,” the king of vampires stood and turned around to walk elegantly out of the dining room, leaving the couple behind. 

There was a grin on bearded features. “You know, with Obi-Wan AND Yan away… we finally have enough time and room to catch up…” he wriggled his eyebrows seductively.

Tahl laughed, “What are we waiting for then,” and without waiting for an actual answer, she dragged the taller vampire into the next room with a bed…

In the Dracula au with pregnant tahl does she go through weird food cravings combined with blood. With a midwife being hired to help her deliver and care for her during the pregnancy. Bonus points if it's a vampire for a midwife who's not intimidated at all by dooku and quigon.

Qui-Gon could only barely resist the urge to vomit the little he had eaten these last few days. His blood reserves were almost completely gone now, thanks to many sleepless days, during which he had tried to calm down his very active child. A quick glance to his right told him, that his father was not faring much better. In fact, he even looked a little green and the long haired vampire was just about to tell him to go, when the midwife spoke up.

She had just given Thal her meal, it was a strange combination. Mostly human food, with a little blood and if he was honest, then Qui-Gon did not want to know what exactly his wife was eating there. The stench of it was already bad enough, thank you very much.

“The child seems to be developing correctly, there does not seem to be anything extraordinary either.”

“Pardon,” it was the vampire king personally, who had spoken up. He was obviously trying his hardest to look the midwife, she was a sturdy build human female, in her eyes and not at Tahl’s ‘food’, if it could even be called that. “But are those… dining habits, truly normal?”

The human woman raised an eyebrow. From the first moment on, Qui-Gon had known that this one was the right one. She was sure of herself and not afraid and he had the feeling that she could defend herself as well, if necessary. There was just something about that woman, that left her unimpressed and made others feel inferior to her. 

“Have you not been listening to what I was saying?” Inwardly, Qui-Gon winced at those words. “I said, that everything was fine.” Her tone made it clear that this line of the conversation was over. Then did her dark brown eyes turned to Qui-Gon, as if she was expecting a stupid question from him as well. 

“What do you think, how long will it be, until the child arrives?”

“This is hard to say. Every pregnancy is a little different and one such as this…” she let the sentence trail off. “I would guess… two month, not much more.”

Qui-Gon nodded and let out a breath. He and his wife had already collected names and decided on two, one for a boy and one for a girl. The midwife could not tell, what the child would be and not even Qui-Gon’s special abilities were unable to give the answer. 

If he were true however, then he did not really care either way. They had wanted a child and they had gotten one. It did not matter, if it was a boy or a girl, as long as the baby would be healthy. 

“Well,” the midwife cleared her throat. “This will be all for now. If you excuse me now, I will retire to my room. Good day,” without another word, she left the room, leaving two stunned vampire males and one happily eating one back. Life is strange…

Tahl looked softly down at her ginger haired brat, who was happily walking between her and her husband. Speaking of which, the older vampire shot her a loving look, it was full of longing and she could easily spot the pain he had suffered through since her death. She looked again at the boy, who had taken her hand, as well as his fathers. Tahl had not said it out aloud, but she knew that Qui-Gon would have gone mad had it had not been for the little ray of sunshine walking between them.

The trio entered the dining area as one and as expected, was Yan already seated at the table and he was in company of a female human. Tahl could immediately tell that she was the female Jedi her husband had told her about. Despite everything that had happened, or perhaps because of it, the honey skinned female found it very funny that her father in law had developed an interest in such a person. No wonder Qui-Gon was so grumpy about it.

Yan’s eyes widened for the briefest of seconds, but he quickly hid the surprise behind the usual mask he put on. If the Jedi noticed anything, she did not let it show.

Tahl sat down across the human, with Obi-Wan seating himself next to her and Qui-Gon next to him. This way, they could easily hold hands on their son’s lap, who did not mind at all. 

“I don’t think we have met yet,” the honey skinned vampire’s smile was genuinely. She wanted to observe before making a decision. “Tahl Jinn, pleased to make your aquaintance.”

Jocasta inwardly winced. It was already bad enough to be surrounded by three vampires, now it were four. Not to forget that the oldest of the bloodsuckers at actually managed to get under her skin. “Jocasta Nu, head archivist in the Jedi temple,” she introduced herself nevertheless.

Gold-green striped eyes found the almost unnoticeable red marks on the woman’s skin. A smile threatened to appear on her features. So her father in law had already made his move. There was no need to fear the human. Now she just needed to make Qui-Gon see it her way… and Obi-Wan as well, if the evil glares he shot the mortal were any indicator. Yes, Obi-Wan was definitely his father’s son, there was no denying it. And just as the long haired vampire, he would break a lot of hearts one day.

A servant with a large bottle of wine entered. The young male bowed and showed the bottle to Yan, who nodded his approval. There was a gleam in his eyes and both Qui-Gon and Tahl knew exactly what that meant. The smell of blood that was only noticeable if you were a vampire, was the final hint. The vampire couple exchanged an amused look over ginger locks. The wine was spiked with the count’s blood.

Meanwhile Obi-Wan was chewing happily on the piece of meat before him. He had noticed the hint of his grandfather’s blood in the wine as well and he was not stupid. He knew the female Jedi would soon be a vampire and part of their family, but she would not be for him. He narrowed his eyes. There was no way that he would call a Jedi family, no way.

Jocasta felt funny. She felt as if she was about to lose the content of her stomach every minute now, but even for that kind of activity was too much for her body. It was as if a whole herd of banthas had trampled over him, leaving bruises and broken bones. 

If she did not know better, she would say that her body was shifting. Her eyes became wide in realization and she curled in on the soft bed she was resting on, as another wave of pain ran through her form. 

“That bastard,” she grit out, already planning a way how she could get out of this situation and desperately hoping that there was one to begin with.

In the Dracula au can we see more of quigon first arriving to the castle with dooku trying to bond and help quigon through his grief? With the servant who came with quigon staying to care for him because he came to view him as his son.

Yan had never been particularly good with children, so it came with no surprise, that the son of his dead cousin was no exception either. Even watching the boy’s interaction with his servant who had traveled with him, did nothing to enlighten the king of the vampires. He had no idea, what he was doing wrong. Qui-Gon seemed frightened by him, again not Yan’s intention, but he had no idea how to change it.  

It didn’t help either that the servant would not let Qui-Gon out of his eyes. Yan could understand, one some level at least, that the man had bonded to the boy during their long and undoubtedly tedious trip, but he was not the boy’s father and he could never be the replacement. The thought alone was utterly ridiculous. How could a human be a proper father to a vampire? Laughable, really. 

The old vampire turned away from the scene of his new charge playing on the ground with his servant nearby. He had other things to do… and he had to create ideas on how to get the boy to open up to him. He had promised that much to his cousin and he was a man of his words.

Yan was tired. He had finally returned from his personal mission to on of his landlords. He could not wait to change into more comfortable clothes and to hop into his soft and warm coffin. If he was lucky, then Qui-Gon would be asleep too and he would not bee awakened again. It had become a habit of the young boy, who was showing his first signs of being a vampire, despite the blood tears that is, to start wandering and exploring the estate during daytime. Yad had nothing against it, as long as he was careful. 

He beat a couple more times with his leather wings and maneuvered his small body easily through the open window - he always kept on or two windows open in the estate, even during winter, it was for security measures - and transformed midair, elegantly landing on his feet. The king of vampires straightened his fancy robes and brushed imaginary dust out, before straightening into a pose that would be considered proper for a man of his status.

“How did you do that?”

Yan startled at the voice that had sounded from behind him and even though he detected no danger, he spun around. He was only mildly surprised to see a pair of curious midnight blue eyes resting on him. “Qui-Gon,” he calmly replied.

The boy crept closer, eagerness clearly written on his features and his fear forgotten. In fact, noticed Yan that his human dog was missing and he wondered if it was the servant, who created the rift between him and his cousin’s son.

“How did you do that?” the boy repeated.

A proud smile appeared on bearded features. “Do you mean… this?” before the boy’s watchful eyes, did he transform back into a bat. He flew a few circles around the clapping born haired child, before transforming midair into a relatively harmless looking wolf. His wolf self bowed before the young vampire and finally, he returned to his normal self. 

“Yes!” a child’s enthusiasm, was contagious.

“You see, young Qui-Gon, this is part of being a vampire,” he explained.

“It is?”

Yan hummed. Then he tilted his head thoughtfully. “Tell me, would you like to learn how to shift into a bat as well?”

If it was physically possible, then did midnight blue eyes widen even more. “Will you teach me?” he asked eagerly.

“If that is your wish,” he smiled at the excited boy. “But right now, it is time for proper vampires to go into their coffins.”

Qui-Gon pouted and avoided his gaze. “I don’t want to sleep… the nightmares come.”

A sigh escaped the older male, he should have expected that. The young one missed his mother and his father and not to forget the trauma of whatever had happened to him. “Would you like you rest with me, today?” he could not believe that he was actually asking this. He preferred his privacy, especially during sleep. But he would make an exception for his charge. 

The brown haired vampire hesitated, but then he nodded in agreement. Yan turned around and motioned for his charge to follow him. he was not surprised when a small hand slipped into his and held on all the way.

Yan watched proudly, how his young charge flew around the grand hall with practiced ease. It seemed that Qui-Gon was born to fly. He still had to work on his hypnotizing powers, but even there he was making progress. Otherwise, his overprotective servant, would never have agreed to let him fly like this and without any kind of protection in case that he should fall. The man meant well, the king of the vampires gave him that, but life would not be life without falling and getting up again. Standing up was important.

Something small collided with his chest and Yan closed his eyes just in time to catch the brat of a boy, who had transformed during his assault. Qui-Gon laughed up at him and Yan’s scowl was mostly fake. 

“Excuse me, my lord, for the interruption, but there is someone, who would like to speak with you.” It was one of Yan’s own servants, who had made the announcement.

The older vampire sighed. “Sent him in,” he gestured with his hand and made himself comfortable on his large chair - more like a throne - with Qui-Gon sitting comfortable and relaxed on his lap.

“Forgive me for the intrusion, my king and my prince,” began the male vampire who had entered. Yan braced himself for a long and boring report, but perhaps Qui-Gon could learn something…

In the Dracula au can we see dooku find out about sifo’s death and be impressed his chosen mate killed a ghoul while being human.

It was the sound of bare feet slapping on the stone ground that awoke Dooku from his sleep. As an eon old being, he had learned a few tricks and waking up when someone was passing his coffin, was one of those things. It had saved his life more than once already.

He waited until the tiny footsteps had vanished, before he silently and carefully opened the lid of his sleeping place. He did not need to look to know that it was his grandson, who was wandering around. It took him a moment to get his old bones to awake from their sleeping state, but eventually, he got out of the coffin and began to silently follow the ginger haired boy. It was not like he did not trust the red haired whirlwind, but he had a strange feeling that needed to be followed. For a vampire, it was important to trust his gut and instincts.

It did not take long for him to find the boy, who was hiding in the shadows while moving forward. A normal human would not have seen him, but vampire eyes were much better. 

“Obi-Wan,” Dooku made sure to alert the younger male to his presence, so that he would not startle the boy.

“Grandpa,” Obi-Wan turned to him, burying into his side, “I think something happened with my ghoul,” he whispered.

Yan’s brows furrowed. “Let us see then,” he took the smaller hand into his own and took the lead, making sure that his Grandson was just a little behind him, just in case that something dangerous had found its way inside their home. It wouldn’t be the first time that a lonely werewolf had lost itself in the corridors or that a vampire hunter had come to try his luck with them. 

“No,” Obi-Wan tugged at his hand, “that way,” he pointed into the opposite direction that his grandfather had wanted to take. Yan looked down the dark hallways, sharpening his senses and hearing for any kind of movement. Then, he continued onward, noticing that the ginger haired boy had also sharpened his senses and was looking out for any kind of disturbance.

“Grandpa,” the boy suddenly exclaimed in a hushed voice, “did you hear that?”

Yan listened. And truly, it was in the distance,  but he could identify it as light sobbing. “Careful now, my boy,” warned the older vampire. His grip on the smaller hand tightened unconsciously and his eyes turned a deep red. He did not need to look to notice the changed aura around his young companion. 

“We are close,” murmured Obi-Wan and it was the last thing that either of them said for a while.

Like a predator stalking its prey, did the two vampires move silently through the darkness. The sound was getting louder, a clear indicator that their goal was right ahead of them. 

They stopped before a corner. Yan deemed it safer to check, before mindlessly dashing forward. What he saw, let him freeze in surprise. Not even the impatient tugging at his arm turned his attention away from the sight of the female Jedi, kneeling on the floor with the incapacitated ghoul lying right next to her.

A startled gasp escaped Obi-Wan, thankfully, the female Force sensitive did not hear. Yan reacted instantly. In the blink of an eye, he and his Grandson had moved away from the scene of death and grief. He could almost sense the anger and the countless questions running through the boy’s head. 

“Come on, my boy.” He said and Obi-Wan, despite his anger and obvious pain from the shattered bond, nodded and obediently followed him. 

In the privacy of his own mind, Yan Dooku was quite impressed at his chosen mate. It was rare that humans survived through a run in with a ghoul and it was even rarer that the killed the ghoul. That Jocasta Nu was certainly an interesting woman…

Can we see in the Dracula au how quigon was adopted by dooku? Bonus points if quigon was born a vampire and dooku knew his parents because one of the parents was related to him by blood?

With a raised eyebrow, the count looked down into the face of a small and still chubby child. There were blood stains on the child’s face and he was probably lucky that the count had already feasted.

“My Lord,” the man behind the boy was trembling, both in fear and from the cold.” It was no wonder, he was only clad in a thin tunic. The boy was not dressed any more appropriate for such cold temperatures, but he did not seem bothered at all.

“What is the meaning of this?” the count forced himself to remain utterly calm. He had a bad feeling about this, the boy, looked awfully familiar. Those eyes, he had seen those deep midnight blue eyes only one more time in his long , long life. And those eyes had belonged to the man that his dear cousin, the only member of his family that he had actually stayed in rather close contact to, had married.

“H… here, my Lord,” the servant held out a letter, his arms trembling. He was clearly exhausted and so was the brown haired boy from the looks of it.

A barely audible sigh escaped the tall count. He took the document, ripping both the seal, as well as the letter open and began to read.

“Dear cousin,

I hope you are well.

If this particularly letter arrives you, I fear that it is already too late. You will not need to worry about me, you do not need to search for me. It would be fruitless, for I would already be in the life after this one.

But, when if this letter truly falls into your hands, then there is also still hope. And hope is what I will cling on, until I draw my last breath.

I entrusted this document to my most loyal servant, I beg of you, be good to him and do NOT feast of him. He belongs to the family.”

The count threw a sceptical look towards the squirming servant, who was still standing in front of the opened doors that made up the entrance of his castle. One of his hands rested on the boy’s shoulders and strangely enough, the child seemed to draw comfort from that. 

Yet the count wondered. Could the words in the letter be true? Was his beloved cousin dead? If so, who had done it? He mentally shook his head. The letter was not over and he wanted to read, what else she wrote. 

“As much as it embarrasses me, dear cousin, but there is another thing that I need to ask of you. The boy, who will be at my servant’s side, he is my and my husband’s son. Born a vampire, not unlike you. Now, I know that you are not overly fond of children, but please, I beg of you, take him in, become the father he won’t have otherwise, be the support that he needs in this darkest of times. I promise you, you will not regret it. My Qui-Gon is a lovely boy, sometimes a little headstrong and reckless, but he has a good heart. 

Please cousin, you are my only hope.

The count carefully folded the letter back and his it in one of the pockets of his coat. Then, he turned to look at the boy, who was supposed to be his now. The child was looking at him with big blue eyes, trying to find out, if he could be trusted or not. It was almost amusing. 

“You must be Qui-Gon,” the count said in a gentle voice.

“Yes,” whispered the child and he even took a step forward. He was a brave one then.

“Very well, I am…” he hesitated a moment. Should he use his birth name and reveal himself as the king of vampires, or should he use the name he had decided to use, to cover up. “Yan Dooku, your caretaker.”

“I know who you are,” said the child stubbornly, “Mother told me about you.”

The count’s eyebrows met his hairline in surprise. Evelyn and he had always been very close, but that she would tell her sone, her own flesh and blood of him, was truly an unexpected honor. 

He awkwardly cleared his throat. “Do come in, both of you, you must be half frozen and starved.” It would not surprise him, it was in the middle of winter after all.

When the count turned to walk back into the caste, his thoughts still running over the words he had just read, he was startled, when something touched his gloved hand. His first instinct had been to pull away, but thankfully, he had suppressed the urge, for it had only been little Qui-Gon, who wanted to hold hands. 

“And you are a real vampire?” he used a teasing voice.

Qui-Gon eagerly nodded, then his brows furrowed and he shook his head. “Not yet, but Mother said that I will be soon.”

“Ah,” he said, then his blue eyes turned to the servant, who was following quietly. He was nervous and frantically looking around, as if he awaited to be attacked by a monster that lurked behind a corner. It was truly amusing to watch. “I shall bring you to the servants’ quarters, where you will be assigned a bed and given food,” he told the man, who nodded, “If you want to remain, or try your luck out in the world, is your decision and yours alone. And you, Qui-Gon, you will come with me.”

The smaller hand in his tightened. “Alright,” the boy answered, though the count had the suspicion that he had not even been listened to. It didn’t matter. For now, he had a little soon to be vampire to take care of, he owed this his beautiful darling cousin…
