A few years ago;
" Steve! " You laughed, squirming away from his reach. "S-Stop! "
You felt his lips kissing your skin while his warm hands wandered under your shirt. You gasped hitting the wall of the building behind you.
" We are in public! " You cried out trying to push his hands away. " Behave! " " I will certainly not. " Your boyfriend replied, a smug grin on his face. "Especially when my girl's looking so beautiful." He leaned his face toward yours, kissing you on the corner on your lips. " Y/N, I need you." He grunted. "Let's go back to the apartment and ditch the movies."
You smiled against his lips, feeling the desire growing inside your stomach, his touch on your skin lightening your needs. Looking at his burning blue eyes you arched your body to him, raising your hand to his cheek.
" You're insatiable. " You remarked brushing his skin lightly with your fingers. " I'm in love, babe. " Steve replied, whispering, before setting his mouth on yours, kissing you softly.
You hummed against his lips, drifting your hand around his neck to press him against you. The blond - man embraced you, holding on to your hips to carry you inside his arms. You hooked your legs around his waist as he pushed you against the wall. His kisses were feverish, hot as he slid his mouth against yours while your nose brushed together.
" Oie! " Someone called out, interrupting the sweet moment. "It's a public space!"
Steve turned his face around to glare at the person. You quietly laughed before kissing his neck.
" Steve, would you put down my best friend. " Sam sighed watching you, annoyed. However you could discern a hint of amusement inside his warm brown eyes. " We have to go. "
Your smile slowly disappeared while you slid against Steve's body, putting your feet on the ground. Go? Where? You looked at the two men who stood a few feet away from you. Sam had his hands in his pockets, looking suspiciously around him, his gaze landing on everyone walking in the cold Brooklynn's street. You quickly glanced at the bag at Clint's feet, his face severe as usual, he only looked at his boss. Probably implying something without words. You frowned your eyes looking back at the man in front of you.
" Y-You have to go? " You asked bewildered watching him sighed as he stroked his eyes with his fingers. " But, we had plans. " You softly reminded him. " Steve, it can't wait. " Clint urged, his voice pressing and deep.
You glared at them. Sam sadly smile at you, shrugging his shoulders while Clint ignored you.
" I know we did. " Steve started, passing a hand behind his neck, licking his lips he took a few steps back from you. " But, I have to take care of this. " The blond-man continued nodding at his friends. " Whatever. " You rolled your eyes, crossing your arms on your chest. " It would only take a few hours. " Steve told you. He was about to turn around but briskly he reached for you, putting a kiss on your cheek. " Wait for me at Harry's dinner. I promise it would be quick. "
He flicked your nose nudging you to reply. You breathed deeply, watching the blue sky above your heads.
" Alright. " " That's my girl. " Steve grinned, stroking your cheek one last time before turning on his heels.
Sam and Clint had already taken a few steps away and, Steve quickly joined them taking the bag from Clint's hand. You saw him opened it and before they turned the corner of the street, you caught the sight of the gun inside your boyfriend's hand. You swallowed hard closing your eyes. You pressed the back of your head against the building trying to erase the memory. Waiting a few hours. That wasn't bad, you reassured yourself, already thinking about the meals you will eat while waiting.

Harry’s Diner, Brooklynn;
" We're closing, doll. " The waitress smiled faintly at you putting the check on the table.
You nodded, inhaling deeply as you took your handbag to look for some money. You had waited. And waited. Patiently for your boyfriend to show up. But he hasn't. Wasting your afternoon away. Looking at the dark sky through the big windows of the small restaurant, you put some bills on the table, feeling hollow.
It wasn't the first time your plans had changed because of his…business he had to take care of. It won't be the last.
" He doesn't deserve you. " The waitress winked at you taking your money and your empty plates in her hands. " I know. " You whispered, joylessly.
And even though you had learned the hard way that dating a bad guy wasn't healthy, you didn't stop your feet to carry you to Steve's warehouse after leaving the diner. Looking for someone who loves you although Steve would never hesitate to put you second on his priority list. After his job.

Present, Steve’s Apartment, Brooklynn;
You looked at your son, sleeping soundly in his crib. Set in an entire newly decorated guest room, you found it hard to believe that a man as violent as Steve could still have a soft spot inside his corrupt heart. The walls were midnight blue, toys and books for kids were scattered all around the room. The carpet was soft under your naked feet, and you had glimpsed earlier rows after rows of children's clothes from all sizes in the dressing room next door. A sweet lullaby was playing from a device tie up to the ceiling. Birds and white clouds were turning gently just above his head. You sighted stroking sweetly his small stomach watching him dream peacefully while your nervousness was eating your gut. You felt like a failure. You made yourself one promise after leaving that prison. Leaving Steve behind to give your unborn child a chance to have a better, successful good life away from the illegal and dangerous business that his father had created. But now back in the cocoon of Steve's place, you had realized that you never had a chance to leave everything behind. Glancing once more at your son's sleeping soundly you sighed turning on your heels walking out of the small room.
"Give me my gun Wilson! Before I punch you in the throat." A female voice snarled, her voice coming from the living room. "Alright red. But stash the LSD and the E in this bag. There's more room. " A deeper voice replied.
You sighed, your shoulders tensing as the words reached your ears. You felt your emotions, sadness and desperation weighing on your minds. The words "failed mother" stirring your thoughts. Quietly, you closed the bedroom door and started to walk toward the commotion in the living room. The space was grand, dim-lit with only the lamp in the corner on. The other source of light was coming from the open kitchen where Steve was hunched over the round table, Clint standing next to him pointed to the paper they were reading before Steve started to sign his name on it. Sam and Nat were talking low, packing black sports bags with drugs that were laying around on the kitchen counter. Failed mother. You watched them warily and then suddenly someone stepped into the path of your vision.
" Y/N. " Bucky stepped toward you, his face apologetic, his blue sight filled with regrets.
You pursed your lips, avoiding his gaze to watch the huge patio windows at the other side of the room.
" I'm sorry. " The dark-haired man mumbled pushing his hands inside his pockets, uncomfortable. " You're sorry? " You asked him incredulously, raising one eyebrow. You turned your eyes to look at him, stepping backward, away from him. " Are you apologizing for the kidnapping? Or for the assault? " You demanded your voice rising, your hands starting to shake.
Bucky bit his lips, dropping his sight on his shoes, ashamed. The room was now silent. You felt the eyes of Natasha on you while Sam was ignoring you pushing the product inside the bag. Clint glanced at you once annoyed by your outburst.
" Cowards. " You muttered balling your fists. " A band of cowards! All of you! "
Quickly, Sam turned on his heels, his eyes dark, full of venom, he took a dangerous step toward you, fuming. He was about to say something but was beat to it.
" Sam, no. " Steve ordered him, without turning his eyes from the white sheet on the table.
Bucky stepped upon his friend's path, holding on to him, a hand on his chest. He quietly whispered a few words to his ear, pushing his friend to the kitchen. You glared at your ex-best friend who scolded back at you.
" Go, wait in the car. " The blond-man commanded, putting his pen away. He gave the papers to Clint who put them inside a black briefcase. " I won't be long. " He added smoothing his tie on his chest.
They left the apartment quickly, embarking the bags full of drugs with them. Sam didn't look at you once his back was turned, opening the door he left rapidly. Bucky on his heels sadly smiled at you but you ignore him stepping toward the kitchen. You felt the heavy eyes of Natasha while Clint ignored you as usual. Before meeting Steve, Nat, Clint, and Buck it was only you and Sam. You grew up in the same neighborhood, and were inseparable. But it seemed that he chose his side. The door closed, you finally breathed deeply crossing your arms on your chest. Now comes the difficult part.
" His sister is in remission. " Steve started to explain as he gathered around other documents and paper. " It's been four months. And you know Sam…," He continued turning around striding inside the kitchen to reach for the freezer. Opening the door, he started to press numbers to unlock the safe that was placed there. " He can be quickly triggered." " I won't apologize." You leaned your body against the counter, biting your lips as you saw above his shoulders the content of the chest. Money, a couple of gold bars, guns.
You dropped your gaze quickly as you saw the human thumb resting inside a freezer bag.
" No. " He simply answered pushing the documents inside. " Because you're not a coward. Isn't that right, Y/N?"
Steve turned around, a smirk paint on his lips. You rolled your eyes shaking your head faintly.
" How long? " You whispered, your eyes on the table in front of you. " What do you mean? " " How long do you plan to keep us here? " You inquired raising your eyes to look at his face.
With a knowing glance, Steve put his jacket on his shoulders. You sighed raising your hand to massage the side of your throbbing head, understanding his silence.
" Steve, I don't think it's a good idea. " You told him shaking your head. " Why? " The blond-man shrugged his shoulders, he leaned his back against the fridge behind him. " You have drugs around, weapons, you deal with illegal stuff and dangerous people for a living. Is that the kind of environment you want your child to grow in? " You hissed under your breath, your anger bubbling inside your gut. " I mean, you kill people when you're upset. “ He's just an innocent child! " " I missed his fucking birth! " Steve shouted out taking a step toward you, his face starting to burn with wrath. Panting, his eyes were fuming.
You quickly turned your head toward your boy bedroom's door, waiting for the inevitable cry. But, thankfully, it never came. You drifted your sight once again on Steve who was scolding at the floor.
" Do you know how it felt like? To be in a concrete cubicle, your thoughts for only company. Thinking about the life outside that you are missing. " Your ex-boyfriend started to explain putting his hands on his hips. " Do you know how it feels like to have your heart crushed because your girl doesn't reply to your phone calls or letters? " He smiled tightly raising his eyes to look at you. " To feel worthless because the one thing that was good in your life left you without any thought? " " It was hard for me too. " You answered, murmuring as you watched him start to laugh humorlessly. " Was it? " He chuckled under his breath, curious, he raised an eyebrow. " I was injured, and in pain, Steve! " You cried out frustrated by his arrogance. " You weren't the only one suffering. I was pregnant and alone! " " Whose fault is that? " The blond-man replied taking a step toward you, still angry. He stopped in front of your face. " If only you had told me, I would have-" " You would have what? " You cut him off, shrugging your shoulders, feeling bold. "You were in jail, for Christ's sake!"
Steve bit a reply, passing a hand through his hair as he glanced to the side. His blue gaze was dark with fury and pain. You sighed licking your lips. Still not hearing any cry from the other room made you relaxed a bit. Feeling the conversation going nowhere, you started to step back from him, striding inside the living room.
" I missed his birth. I miss his first bath. His first laugh. His first word. " Steve started to enumerated behind your back. " As I breathe, I promise you, sweetheart, I won't miss anything from my son's life. " " For that, you should consider to change your lines of work. " You remarked quietly, ignoring the big weapons set against the windows to peer outside.
You didn't feel him move behind you but suddenly his arms were enlacing your waist from behind. Steve pressed a small kiss under your ear, making you shivered, before putting his head above yours. Still watching the dark night outside, you slowly leaned into him remembering the earlier time after your separation. The fear of being followed by Steve's ex - associates. The sadness of being alone, cutting ties with everyone. Trying to found a good job. Raising your son.
" I'm going to take care of everything. " " Funny, that's the same words you said to me before you were sent to jail. " You recalled smirking.
Grasping quickly your arm, Steve made you turned around inside his hug. You collided against his chest, looking up, you saw him scowling, his eyes dark.
" I'm meeting with Caïd tonight. " He whispered hotly, his words heavy with double meaning. He leaned his face dangerously toward you. " Don't play with me. I'm still mad at you for the secrets you kept from me. "
Raising his hand, he gripped your chin tilting your face to the side before biting your earlobe between his teeth, hard. You whimpered holding onto his biceps, closing your eyes.
" Steve, " You warned feeling his hand on the small of your back sliding down to grope your ass. " No. " You murmured trying to step away from his grip. " I want to make you pay. " He mumbled pressing feverish kisses on your neck, still holding onto you. " You've been a very bad girl and you need to be punished." He continued biting your skin.
No. No!
You pushed on his chest, hard making him backing away from you.
" We broke up. " You reminded him, biting your lips, watching him panted heavily in front of you. His eyes burning. " We aren't together anymore. " "You left me! Me! " Steve roared taking a step toward you, his cheeks red. "After everything I've done for you. I never agree with that, baby. " He cried out. You rolled your eyes, turning on your heels to walk to your son's bedroom. "Where are you going?" " I'm stepping away to leave some room for your ego. " You replied without glancing at him.
Briskly, you found yourself being thrown against the wall. An ache started to pound inside your back making you cried out. Steve grip your arm tightly and, leaned his body toward you, menacing.
" Don't ever turn your back to me. " The blond man snarled, his jaw clenched, breathing heavily. “ Ever. Again. “
Faintly, the sound of a cry reached your ears growing steadier and louder as you stood trap between your ex and the wall.
" Steve.." You murmured tears gathering inside your eyes, pleading while your son started to bawl, his sob echoing inside the apartment. "P-please… "
Watching you closely, he nodded slowly, dropping his hand away from you.
" Go. " He murmured, looking away from your face. He started to march toward the front door. " We will finish this later. " He said to you before leaving you alone.
You rushed inside your son's bedroom, reaching for him in a heartbeat. You quietly swayed him inside your arms soothing his cry while you quietly sob above his head. Pressing him against your chest you tried to gently lure him to sleep biting your lips to not make any noise that could distress him even more Failure eating your guts.

Morning;
Waking up all alone in Steve's apartment was what you needed. Too scared to leave, relief had coursed through your body when you realized that you were alone with your son in the empty place in the early morning. You had slept next to your son's crib in a chair, your limbs were sore from discomfort. But it was for the better. You needed to put space between Steve and you. Starting with your sleeping arrangement. With ease you go on about your day, starting by feeding your son with fruits and yogurt taking some bite for yourself. You were about to wash him walking to the bathroom when the front door quickly opened, Sam stepped inside the main room.
" Y/N, we had a hiccup. " He announced striding quickly toward the safe. "Code Red." " Wait, what? " You halted in your steps frowning at his back while he took some money and paper from the safe. " What is it? " You inquired, trying to remember what Steve's "codes" meant. " We have to move! " Sam took a gun and turned on his heels, watching you sternly.
You embraced your so against you as he started to fuss against you. Licking your lips, still not understanding, you were about to say something but he cut you off.
" Steve's got shot. "
