Steps Forward
Shii was unbelievably distracted, as he walked back up to the mouth of the Trial Cave, or whatever it was called. His meeting with Mercedes, Aura’s trial, and the original reason for coming here were all mixing in his mind.
He barely even noticed that he was at his destination, until Professor Kukui called out to him. The Yveltal startled slightly, and looked up to see the man in the labcoat waving at him.
They exchanged some quick dialogue, but Shii was only half-paying attention, and really just flowing with the conversation. He felt extremely guilty for agreeing to help Mercedes. But, at the same time, he knew he shouldn’t. She was right... sooner or later, Merric was going to realize the truth. And even still, until he did, he’d be after his little sister and his son’s group... and there was no way in hell he’d let that happen again.
Shii turned and looked at the dark mouth of the cave. It was Merric that dragged Zaffre into that whole mess... tricked him, and kidnapped him from Kalos, and brought him into an adventure that ultimately led to...
‘this’. He thought bitterly.
If Mercedes plan worked, they could track Merric down, and defeat him, before he had a chance to cause any harm to anyone. Thus, leaving Zaffre, Midori, and Koma safe and unaware. He didn’t want Midori’s first Pokemon journey to turn out like his, if he could help it...
The sight of a group of figures appearing from the darkness of the cave snapped him from his thoughts. He felt a genuine grin cross his face, as he saw Aurora and Nilos materialize from the darkness inside.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward, crouched down, and held his arms out towards his baby girl, “Aura! How’d it go, superstar!?”
