Mixtape Mondays ft. Emerson Leif, Half an Orange, Dooqu, Snugs, Khamsin & more
Mixtape Mondays ft. Emerson Leif, Half an Orange, Dooqu, Snugs, Khamsin & more
Oh Monday we meet yet again. But your powers won’t work on me this time…I’ve come to combat you with some of the freshest tunes to ensure your defeat. We’ve got a lot to cover so it’s probably best we get started.
Lightly pulling you from your dreams this morning is Emerson Leif and Golden Vessel with their latest track ‘Hesitate’. Having known each other for a while and working on previous projects, it was a no brainer for the two to come together for Leif’s debut release. With such a dreamy track you’ll be awakening in pure bliss, and maybe even rejecting to hit the off button on the alarm so you can fully appreciate this whole work.
“Hesitate came about from these old vocals and acoustic guitar loops that Caleb had recorded years ago. We dug those up and sampled them, and built ‘Hesitate’ around them. This is one of my favourite songs that I’ve ever made and it’s kind of just been sitting on my laptop for over a year. I can’t tell you how happy I am to finally get it out.”

Maybe you woke up a little lonely this morning, don’t worry it happens even to the best of us. Thats where Half an Orange (which is used in Brazil to suggest that everyone is half an orange, looking for that one person, thing, or purpose that completes them… or, the other half of the orange) comes in to swoop you up in their arms. The duo creates a delicate track that encompasses their listener allowing them to transport their mind back to younger days, where maybe they weren’t so lonely and maybe they just didn’t give a damn.
“As time passed, I realized that the steps on which we were partying were not ordinary steps, but rather the steps of one of the most cherished Cathedrals in the word. Noticing the casualness of the group made me realize how naïve we can be when we’re young, completely losing perspective on our surroundings…nearly everyone on the steps that night was wearing Chuck Taylors.” – Michael of Half an Orange

LA Based singer/song writer Nina Luna is now up to bat this morning with a track that recounts a personal situation which could be the reason you woke up lonely, but hopefully by the next few tracks you will be ‘Letting Go’ of what might be bringing you down this morning and instead thinking about whats next.
“Tell You Now was inspired by a moment I had with someone, this incredibly physical and visceral experience of actually having to pull these words back in just as I was about to say them because it wasn’t the right time. The experience stuck with me so vividly and I wanted to describe it as honestly as possible. The song is a dreamy reflection on what could still be.” – Nina Luna

Now that we’re feeling better Dooqu comes in to get you up and on your feet and let you know that it’s ok sometimes to have trouble ‘Letting Go’. The danish producer paired up with the Australian singer Trove on this one to create a lighthearted anthem that will ensure that you get out of the slump you might have been in but will leave you mindful of the day in front of you.

23 year old Scandinavian artist Idk Ariel is here to infuse your morning coffee with bright vocal melodies blended with heavy beats and synths on his latest track ‘Shining’. Idk about you but he has me singing about how i’m ‘Shining’ too…maybe it’s the coffee or maybe Idk Ariel.

BOiCE is an electro-pop project founded by several German music producers last year and they recently released their track ‘Soaking Lovers’ which has me feeling some kind of way. Feline captures me with her soft voice and then the drop comes in and makes me feel like i’m back in time at a masquerade with fancy dresses, in a large castle, with lots of…and there I go day dreaming again.

So much soft music this morning, kinda like Snugs himself, but no worries we’re picking it up here. Snugs pairs up with Axel Mansoor (swoon) on a groovy house track full of electric synths, thumping bass, and percussion that will have you clapping along.

Last but certainly not least is Khamsin, and he is here to bring you all the energy you’ve been looking for this morning. With a fierce and powerful vocal by Anuka it’s hard not to fall in love by the first few seconds…then Khamsin blasts you with gritty waling synths invoking even more emotion into you and now you are for sure in love and woke.
“The song is a hybrid between my electronic and rock influences, i tried to keep all the sounds as organic as possible within an electronic structure leading to a new and more personal sound. Anuka clearly emphasize the mood and add the energy with her vocals. Im happy we finally did a song together.” – Khamsin

This song has great chill vibes. The beats take you up, leave you hanging suspended and then bring you down safely. It’s just a great, relaxing song.

"Dooqu - Circles Ft. Ian Gott" by Dooqu
Young Danish producer and multi-instrumentalist Dooqu continues his ascension towards the top of the most exciting new producers list with sensational new single named Circles, on which he enlists Los Angeles’ Ian Gott for some velveteen vocals. Dooqu, whom we’re proud to have supported and premiered music for nearly a year ago, explains that he wanted to melt together soft and metallic sounds to create contrast on the song. It’s a captivating dichotomy. Circles unfurls with feathery synths and quivers with vibrant flickers, delivering a thoroughly compelling and gently thrilling listen dreamily brimming with tender emotion. Circles, which premiered via NestHQ, is a free download, here.

Finding his initial inspiration on YouTube music channels, 19-year-old Dooqu taught himself the ins and outs of production while growing up in the Denmark countryside. His latest song “Circles” featuring Ian Gott, is a rich and distinct tune that tells the painful tale of love interests who chase each other around in a never-ending circle.
“I wanted to melt together soft and metallic sounds to create contrast,” Dooqu says while describing his artistic vision for the track. Listeners will agree that Dooqu does more than merely create contrast — “Circles” is an unforgettable musical canvas for Gott’s pitch-perfect vocals.
