I’m not UI expert, or even all that UI savvy. But there were a few things I wanted to start thinking about if I was going to get into all aspects of game dev.
With our companion project, I did a little snooping and created a moodboard of UIs I thought communicated the feeling I hated to achieve.
Obviously, I’m looking for something that feels very sleek in dark mode, and also feels a little social and responsive. I’ll be referring to this as I go about my future designs.
I also took to create a UI/UX flow graph. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start.
Since this game is UI heavy, this also really covers a lot of the game flow project. It might feel unnecessary, but for me it really helps to know what I need to complete instead of getting lost in the Unity sauce.
Lastly, a recent humble bundle led me to DoozyUI. I had already become familiar with making UIs in Unity and it seemed fairly straightforward and clean. However, DoozyUI is 58 euros so it seemed worth a try at the discounted price.
My hope is that I can combine it with traditional UI techniques, and speed up the overall process quite a bit.
