kawato's art skills 🥰
watching the first ep of the office romance with kaku sou as one of the male leads
this girl gets it!
i love her dream vision of being princess carried around the workplace
also the netflix translator just TLed the fake jpn porno parody title "mission chin-possible" as "mission dick-possible". -_- bro "mission im-penis-ible" was right there??
rewatching shinya shokudo with mom (still so good & emoi) and once again thinking how unrealistic it is that there's no regular at the diner who keeps coming back due to wanting master carnally
someone is unnaturalposting in the jdrama tag and they just referred to nakado & misumi as "grumpy x sunshine"!?? chat i think we may need to put the booktok tropes up on a high shelf for a while
rookies rewatch is making me think about the one real downside to plucking jdramas from the confines of fansubbing which is that streaming service subtitling & localization standards just don't give you much to work with, sometimes.
yufune's thing is that he nyas as a sentence ender.
knowing the demographic of my followers one might be tempted to ascribe this as an obtuse ultraman "kittyboy" mebius reference due to their shared actor, but to my knowledge yufune nyas in the manga too, so. just a cute coincidence. for all i know there is some deeper reason given for it in the manga but in the show it mostly just comes across as like... he is a frivolous charao type and has simply adopted saying nya as his Funny Guy trait.
you can leave that as is in ~15 yr old fansubs done by weebs for weebs, but not so much in official ones on a mainstream service. a viewer who stumbled onto the show with absolutely zero jpn knowledge will not know what the hell is happening when a character keeps saying nya over & over.
to provide a few side by side comparisons,
i physically feel the netflix translator's struggle bc what are your options here, really.
1) you try to work meowing into his sentences. but this isn't isekai anime or whatever, it's a show about normal highschoolers in the normal world, and a silly teenager who nyas is just not really comparable to him being actively cat-themed. throwing meows in there would be semi inaccurate contextually and would probably confuse a regular audience even more.
2) you leave the nyas in unchanged with the addition of a translator's note or two. i believe this option would be the most sensible, but translator's notes seem to be anathema in official subtitling projects for whatever reason. oh well, then.
so sadly all you're left with is 3) just don't even try & rewrite lines to suit this revisionism. and thus most jokes resulting from him nyaing will be lost to time... like mere stardust... and perhaps many a viewer will never fully grasp that yufune tetsuro was the progenitor of
but such is the forward march of progress.
