Unused Scene from The Spark of Dawn

I'm in the sharing mood...

I wrote this out years ago but given how far into the fic I am, I don't know where I would fit it in if I end up using it. But I'll share it, anyway.

Ships: Taiora & Mimato

Some Context: Taichi leads a pirate crew (Jou, Koushiro, Mimi, Yamato). Sora is an unofficial member, whether she likes it or not. I also wrote this after watching the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie where Newt talks about Tina having salamander eyes.

“Sora…” Taichi said. “She commands my heart and makes it feel funny. She might be stealthy and invisible, but to me, she’s grand and majestic, and there is nothing like her across the sea. She’s like… a whale.”

Yamato sat up and stared. Koushiro, who had just appeared on deck, stopped in his tracks.

“A whale, Cap?” Yamato asked.

“Yeah. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Yamato and Koushiro exchanged glances, and looked as though they were holding in their laughter.

“You shouldn’t ever tell that to a woman.”

“Why not?” Taichi asked.

“It’s just not very nice. They won’t react to it well.”

“But I don’t mean any insult. I find it hard to believe, Yamato. I know! Go tell Mimi.”

Yamato’s eyes flashed. “I wouldn’t dare.”

“Come on! I really want to see what she thinks.”

“Can it, Taichi! I am not going to call Mimi a whale!”

They heard a gasp, and Mimi appeared from the bottom. The look of horror on her face, the tears springing in her eyes told them all that she heard Yamato.

“Oh, I knew I shouldn’t have eaten all that calamari!” she cried, turning back down to the bottom.

“No, no, no, Mimi, wait…” Yamato immediately jumped to his feet to follow right after her. It was then that Taichi registered that perhaps his idea of a compliment was not very flattering after all. He looked to Koushiro with guilt as he heard the crashing of pots and pans down below, joined by Mimi’s sobbing and Yamato’s consoling yells.

“You know how I can get with the calamari, I should listen to you more when you say not to eat so much!”

“That’s because you always tell me to tell you that, Mimi! I promise, you look beautiful!”

“Yeah, right! I look beautiful - I look like a whale!”

“Mimi…”

When dinner was served, it was quiet around the dining table. The feast Mimi had normally planned was cancelled, and all the courses were reduced to one plate of salad for each member of the crew. Taichi looked around the table to see Mimi sulking over her plate, Yamato staring daggers, Jou eyeing everyone with confusion, and Koushiro giving a nervous, apologetic smile.

[This is Noct paraphrasing I guess] There are no set rules, but it looks like what this challenge is about is to list the titles of your WIPs as the challenge says, and talk a bit about them. Ooh, I have a bit to talk about. A blessing and a curse, I tell you!

...She’s up to a lot.

Here are my current WIPs, varying in length and % of completion, but at least have a scene written out. Listing in no particular order.

Effervescent Fires - This one is not Digimon, but all I want to reveal for now is that it’s for Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s.. biographical XD

The Spark of Dawn (Part II of DoreDore Adventure) [ Takari, Taiora, Mimato, Kenyako(!) ] - I’ve talked a little bit about it in a recent ask. I’ve just been making sure I’m laying out the framework and building to some really spectacular scenes. At least, in my head. I cannot write this (or any of my fics) fast enough. (Series in progress on AO3 | FFN)

Make It A Double - [ Taiora ] The sequel to Just One Drink, an Adult AU that’s ...kinda... spicy. I can’t say anymore, and I don’t think there’s any more to be said. ;)  (Read the first fic on AO3 | FFN)

Digital Recovery - [ Gen :) ] The Chosen reach adulthood wondering why they are the way they are, and what connection do they have to each other? 

YES I’m still writing this!! Since I last updated, exposition’s coming up, as well as the set up for the next arc of the story. I can’t believe I’m emotionally torturing these poor kids.. (Fic is in progress on AO3 | FFN)

The Last One Wins - Taichi and Yamato place a silly bet with each other. 02 Epilogue compliant. Anyone from the Discord reading this, yeah - I’m still working on this, too.

Dreams and Masquerades Sequel (no title yet) -  T A I O R A T O

The Girl Who Stands Out - Mimato, anyone? :) Mimi moves back from America and transfers to Odaiba High School. Yamato tries to figure out how to handle his feelings. Romance, Drama right now, I’m thinking.. - looks like this plot bunny is getting some happy pets :)

Solid Walls of Sound - A Sorato romance!! This one might be a long fic. 

OTP Battle - I am keeping this one a secret for now.

Tsukiakari - [ Taiora ] Sora woke up with no memory of who she is or what happened to her. Meanwhile, her digimon partner has reborn and remembers EVERYTHING. - (Fic in progress on AO3 | FFN)

I struggle with restraint and organization (on top of the ridiculous mess that is called Real Life) so I hope you can all bear with me while I try to spill these out of my brain and into Google Docs.

3. Do you prefer canonverse or AUs?

I have to say that I’m an AU girl. As I write more I realize that I do like writing things within the canonverse, but many of my longer fics are set in alternate universes. Especially with a large cast of characters like in Digimon Adventure, it’s fun to take the characters and put them in a different universe. It’s also fun to make ships happen. ;) 

Just to name a few : 

Wolf Transformation (Guess who’s the wolf ;P)

Pirates

Future/Adults - although, this one could be considered canonverse as well...

17. Describe a fic that's still in the 'ideas' stage

There's a Sorato longfic plan sitting in my "Bunnies to Pet" folder. I want it to be a Romance/Drama about Yamato's journey to stardom and his relationship with Sora along the way. I think I’ll make it mainly in Yamato’s POV. 

On that note, this idea could potentially still be within canonverse :D 

18. Do you have a fic reading/writing routine?

My reading basically happens “when I am fully alert and free to do it” or “squeeze in my free time” which can be rare. I still have a backlog of fics to read!!

As far as writing. Usually I write after dinnertime in the evenings. This is the time when no one else in the house asks me to do things and they’re all doing their own thing - so it’s less interruptions for me. I’ll write earlier when I’m completely relaxed on the weekends. For most writing sessions, I will have a mug of tea. I’ll also need ambience, so I’ll play a stream of lo-fi or cozy instrumental in the background. Cooler weather and rain is in the forecast this weekend and oooh I am super excited for cozy writing (and maybe reading) weather!

Hey, happy Friday! I'm sending you an ask for Fanfic Friday. Which of your fics is your current fave? What do you like most about it?

It’s probably because I’m working on it now, but it’s my two-part fic series called DoreDore Adventure. It’s a pirate AU that started out as a love letter to Digimon & One Piece (and even Pirates of the Caribbean) and it turned into something insane - in a good way. The 2nd fic is currently a work in progress.

What I like the most about it is that I threw our beloved Chosen Children into the world of fun and ridiculous pirates. I also have so much fun dropping a bunch of Easter eggs from the original series into it. The 1st fic features the 01 Chosen, and I’m currently writing the chapters in the 2nd fic where more of the 02 Chosen will be introduced. I’m so excited to share more of it!!

Anyway, onto my WIP:

I'm excited to note that this is a Taiora scene from DoreDore Adventure Part 2. I waited until after my Takari Week Wrap Up post since I happened to mention this fic in it.

I am especially happy about this scene because I had been wracking my brain over getting smoothing this one out for about two weeks and I think I’m okay with it now. This is actually the scene’s closer:

The explanation was only one part of her dilemma that she had meant to tell him all along. Although, when she looked up to Taichi staring at her, she recognized the same expression he wore whenever he worried about Hikari. She found it hard to believe that for a man who went around gallivanting without a care in the world, he would still stop and worry about someone like her.

“I’m here now, aren’t I?” she asked; and before he could answer, she moved first to catch his lips for another kiss.

Taichi took in her sweet kiss, encasing her in his arms. He knew that she was still dodging the subject, and he knew she wouldn’t tell him if he tried to ask her. Crew member or not, she was still with him, and he had to cherish his moments with her before she decided to leave him again.

Would have been kinda funny if I started working on the next scene, which happens to be Takeru waking up in an unknown place :x But another scene to wrack my brain over. We’ll see how that plays out.

What’s next for Noct?

The only other Takari I’ve got on my plate right now is my Pirate AU fic DoreDore Adventure (in which Taiora and Mimato are equally major ships). I currently have drafts of 6 chapters (yes, 6!) which are coming along slowly/surely but I want to get this right.

I definitely did *not* ruin my sleep schedule to explain the whole plot of a fic to my friend.

Good news is I don't feel as lost as I did before and I have the means to structure the story the way I want to.

Bad news is I'm so tired to do anything and all I want to do right now is write and talk more about my fics.
