Yaaaaay, thank you for writing in! Last time I did this, I’d only published the first 2 in the Origins series (One for the Money and Two for the Show), and since there’s no specification for which fic you’re asking about, I will be answering these questions about the last 2 in the Origins series (Three to Get Ready and Four for the Road) as well as the first 2 in the Terror Time series (Scooby Doo and the Beauregard Game and Scooby Doo and the Book of the Dead) To make everyone’s lives easier, I’ll abbreviate the titles to TTGR, FFTR, SDBG, and SDBD respectively. 

💎- What was your favorite part?

TTGR: Far and away my favorite part was the scene at prom when Shaggy finally tells Velma he’s in love with her. I had been wanting to write that scene basically since 2011, so it was a relief to finally get it out on paper (or word document, I guess haha)

FFTR: I absolutely love the scene where Fred breaks down in the middle of Wyoming as he realizes just how much danger he and his friends are in. He feels responsible for all of it, but the gang come together to comfort one another and decide to take turns driving the Mystery Machine for the rest of the trip so they can beat the clock. One of my favorite parts of Scooby Doo is the friendship that the gang shares, and any time I get an opportunity to write a moment like this one is always such a delight.

SDBG: The scene where Velma admits to her friends that she cheated on a test because she felt such an overwhelming pressure to succeed, only to get caught and suspended for the remainder of her second semester of college. Up til this point, everyone in the gang was kind of thinking “Oh, the we're all back together, everything can go back to the way it was in high school and it’ll be like nothing has changed,” but after this revelation, it becomes obvious just how much the distance from each other has affected everyone – particularly Velma. (This is a recurring theme that will continue to happen throughout the remainder of Terror Time, btw, so I’m glad I was able to plant the seeds so early in this story)

SDBD: I absolutely LOVED writing the scene with Velma and Shaggy in the kitchen in the middle of the night, when Velma realizes one of Shaggy’s new tattoos is the music notation for Perfect for You, their duet from Next to Normal (the musical they were in during Two for the Show), and it’s then revealed that Velma is the one who initiated their break-up. I’d tried to make the audience think that Shaggy had been the one to end their relationship, so that it would be a bit of a shock when it was revealed that it had been Velma. What I liked about this scene is the same thing I liked about the scene from Beauregard Game that I described above: that the distance from each other is having repercussions on their relationships, and we are watching it happen.

✏️-Would you go back and change anything if you could?

TTGR: I don’t think so, but I will share a fun fact with you all. I always knew I wanted Shaggy to kind of be prompted by Julie to tell Velma how he felt, and while Julie as a character wasn’t nearly as fleshed out pre-2019, she was always supposed to be this older-sister-type-figure to the gang (and Shaggy in particular). In my initial conception of the scene, the song Julie sang was Counting Crows’ Accidentally in Love (yes, the same song from Shrek 2 lol), but by the time I was actually writing the story, we were in the middle of lockdown. You know how during lockdown we were all just kind of consuming any media we could to distract ourselves from Everything? One of things that my husband and I watched were all the Twilight movies (because he had never seen them) and I heard that Christina Perri song for the first time in like, eight years. I realized that the lyrics were exactly what I was trying to encapsulate for both Shaggy and Velma in that moment, and I decided that A Thousand Years would be a much better fit for the scene lol.

FFTR: Honestly no, this scene turned out exactly the way I’d hoped it would. It showed Fred being vulnerable, Daphne being strong, Shaggy being brave, Velma being compassionate, and Scooby and Nova being supportive. I still feel proud when I re-read the scene (which I did just now so I could answer this question haha)

SDBG: Probably not, I think it accomplished what I meant it to. What I wanted from the scene was for the gang to understand that if they want their relationships to continue in spite of their physical distance, they will all have to put in the work. Things can’t always just go back to the way they were, and their lives apart from each other have real consequences to them. Like I said above, this is a theme that’s going to come into play a lot more in the next two installments of Terror Time. 

SDBD: I really wish I’d been able to include their actual break-up, instead of just alluding to it, but I couldn’t figure out a way to do it without making the scene clunky and confusing. If you’ve read the second chapter of my newest WIP Scooby Doo and the Warlock’s Curse, think of the flashback scene where (spoilers) Shaggy calls Velma on the phone to talk about Mary Jane. That’s the kind of thing I wished I could have done in this scene, but I really think something like the ending of their relationship needed it’s own chapter, and there just wasn’t space for it. Maybe I’ll write it as a one-shot someday, if I ever want to make myself (and the Shelma fandom) extra sad. (Which I don't think I do lol)

i love that we get insight into sonic's past in burning both ends of the night, but will we get something similar with lancelot outside of the main fic? 🫶 or do you not think it necessary? (i'm just so excited to know more about their respective pasts and how that affects their current dynamic... it's so satisfying to see everything fall into place)

also, is there anything specific that inspired tc&hk?

I absolutely am going to do something for Lancelot outside of the main fic and sort of already have something workshopping in my WIP folder 👀

I will probably incorporate a portion of it in TC&HK (like I plan to with BBEotN and Accolon's Tale) because so much character motivation is based off past history and relationships and decisions etc. I feel like a bad author if I make all these random seeming choices and then just go "if you want to know why, read these four other things", ya know? I like to think of everything else as bonus content.

Like, Sonic needs to know the relationship between Lancelot and Arthur just as much as the audience so I'm not going to keep it obscured and placed behind another fic. But the really gritty details? That's what the bonus stories are for. It's why I started BBEotN because there's just too much my brain came up with to fit solely in TC&HK for Lancelot to need to know.

As far as inspiration for TC&HK, I don't really know if I can point to one specific muse. It's a couple things. I was reading a LOT of Lansoni fics (visualdove on ao3 kept me very well fed 😂) so I wanted to contribute to the pairing but I didn't just want to rehash something I had read.

These costumes had just been announced for Speed Battle (of which I play Sheriff Sonic religiously now cause he's GOATed).

And there was the obvious choice to make something like this with the cowboy characters. But that STILL didn't quite squeeze my brain.

Then I had this, like, daydream, of Lancelot and Sonic trying to send him back home. They're camping and it's rainy and they have to share a tent. They have their own versions of each other back home but they like the one in front of them best. And the line "I wish I knew how to quit you" popped up and then Sonic went from regular to a cowboy and BAM! The Cowboy and His Knight had two chapters written before I knew it. Then it was like, well now what 😂 and the dolls kept playing with themselves while I did boring paperwork at work and Sonic Forces Speed Battle just kept showing up with cooler and cooler costumes (Oni Mephiles and Warlock Infinite 💚) so the ideas kept growing.

I estimate before the end of this I'll have TC&HK, BBEotN, a Lancelot/Arthur equivalent, Accolon's Tale, and some kind of sequel 💀 there's a LOT of ideas rattling around up here and I intend to get to them all...eventually.

i am rewatching the Lord of the Rings and this question popped up in mind:

If, for any reason, Morgoth had to choose one between Mairon and Lelca, say sacrifice one to save the other or simply make a choice, what will he do?

We've readily established throughout the story that Morgoth is as selfish as one can be, but what will he do when he is forced by powers beyond his own, say by Ungoliant or Eru?

Oh gods this is *the* question.

The real draw Melkor had to Lelyacalë was the light she possesses, and whilst he grew fond of her as a person, his and Mairon’s relationship is different. It was built on mutual admiration. Mairon was never a “thing”, an object.

In my mind, the physical and metaphysical bond he has with Lelca means he would feel compelled to save her. He would hate losing Mairon though and so resent the whole debacle, including Lelyacalë. So he would in effect lose both.

Likewise, if he chose Mairon and lost Lelca. I think no matter who he chose he would actually lose both.

I also think Lelyacalë wouldn’t let him make that choice. She would sacrifice herself. She sees the relationship between Melkor and Mairon more clearly than Melkor does and she’s not afraid of death, or of being without Melkor. She knows Mairon’s soul would break at the separation from Melkor, as we see in the penultimate chapter.

But yes. Let’s hope that decision is never put to Melkor.

I know requests are closed right now, and that there are already FOUR of my reqs on your WIP-list, and any decent well-mannered person would just leave it at that… but I’m about to lose all my shame and shoot my shot anyway. I will give you the biggest puppy eyes, promise to behave myself until October, promise not to roll my eyes or snap at weird anons, and I’ll even try to fill my blog with something other than just reblogs (this is the hardest part, but maybe I’ll finally properly systemize and describe my classification of Romans? I'll figure something out).

Since you’re doing an alphabet for Simon, could you PRETTY PLEASE🙏 add Willard, Clark and Dane to it as well? Of course, you can totally say no, absolutely no hard feelings - except for one, deadly, eternal grudge (I'm JOKING, obviously). And of course, only if the person who specifically requested Simon doesn't mind (they won't mind, right? 🥹)

MY REQUESTS ARE CLOSED... but not for you. Never for you! And the prospect of getting a formal classification of Romans? Even if it's just a maybe? YEAH, worth it.

I will do alphabets for Willard, Clark and Dane. I'll give them each their own post like Simon, and then add them all to the main list for housekeeping.

i had a thought (very bad idea ik)

i made the terrible decision a month ago to take on a bunch of asks and work on 4 different fanfics at once, which caused me to basically write at snail pace because i was trying to get them all done at once. Obviously, I don’t want to do this anymore because I can’t get anything done SO what if I saved everything (except aiicbwyw) and posted them during October for an asktober kind of thing? Some requests that I’ve already started would get shelved for a bit, but i think having a semi regular upload schedule would be a good trade off. My requests are still open I just will save them for a later date.
