everybody SHUT UP!! HE GOT HIS YETI!!
Wanted to try drawing Sorato!!
A gigantic bird-like figure carried Sora, Taichi, and Yamato in its palm, soaring at incredible speed. This was Garudamon, the Ultimate form evolved from Biyomon. It raced along the wide path carved out in the center of the black Digimon horde, arriving in the blink of an eye at the front lines where MetalGreymon and Lycanroc were, and set Taichi and Yamato down.
“Don’t worry about the fortress!”
“I know.”
“I’ll go.”
Actually, this is a sweet moment between Yamato and Sora, but the translation can't capture its meaning, so you have to look at the original text.
砦の方は心配ないから!」 「わかってるって」 「行ってくるぞ」 Toride no kata wa shinpai naikara!'
`Wakatteru tte' `itte kuru zo'
The first sentence was spoken by Sora, and the second was Yamato's response.
Anyone who understands Japanese knows that Yamato's reply was very gentle; you can look it up to see that he answered Sora in the manner of a lover.
So it was a hint from the director, Kakudou.
In digimon adventure, Yamato use Wakata.
Foreword:
"It's really dangerous. A third of people die before they even get to the hospital."
Last year, I almost died. I felt extremely unwell, even worse than when I had shingles more than ten years ago. So I went to a nearby hospital for a checkup and found out I had an irregular heartbeat. The doctor told me to go to the university hospital immediately, which was within walking distance. An hour after registering, I was on the operating table. I underwent emergency surgery for a myocardial infarction. That's what the doctor said to me. Since I could still walk at the time, I didn't feel that much of a crisis, but it seemed the situation was indeed quite critical. The doctor inserted two stents through a catheter in my wrist. I remember the surgery was over in about two hours, and it didn't even require stitches. I was originally scheduled to stay in the hospital for two weeks, but I was discharged after ten days. Whether it was a blessing or a curse, it was during my free time, so it shouldn't have had much impact on my work. However, considering the rehabilitation arrangements, I didn't take on any post-production work, only performance assignments, and this situation has continued until now. At this rate, my last project involving performance might be Digimon Adventure Beyond. While I don't think it's a big deal, and there will likely be other projects involving performance, what worries me is the backstory of Beyond.
Digimon Adventure Beyond is a short film of about four minutes, intended as a sequel to the TV anime Digimon Adventure, and was released online in March 2025. It's based on a short article I wrote about a year and a half ago. It was originally a plot outline for viewers dissatisfied with the two theatrical films produced as canonical sequels over the previous years. At the time, I was thinking that even if I couldn't make it into a film, I could at least expand the article into a longer piece and publish it somewhere. That's when I received the offer to produce the short film, and I took on the project, thinking that if I could release the film and the long article simultaneously. By the time the film was released, the article was already finished. Although it was originally intended to be released as backstory, the so-called official text release plan has been cancelled. Given that the operational policy may change in the future, I've decided to wait and see. While I apologize to those readers who should have received this text… that was my original intention, but my recent hospitalization changed my mind. I could have passed away without publishing this text. No, even now—although I'm still undergoing rehabilitation and medication to prevent a relapse, no one knows when an accident or natural disaster might strike. Therefore, although not in an official release, I've decided to publish it in several installments. If it brings joy to those who have been wanting to see or read this kind of work, then it will be my honor.
By the way, the title was set as "13+" from the initial plot outline stage, but during the film adaptation, it was changed to "Beyond" at the producer's request. However, the original title has been reverted to in the written work. The original name Digimon Adventure 02 was chosen partly because it was the second installment, and partly because the story is set in 2002. Therefore, although the main setting of this story is 2013, the first minute or so of Beyond takes place two years earlier, so I think it's acceptable to refer to the entire work as Beyond. As for what the "+" in "13+" actually represents, I plan to explain that another day. The PDF filename is written as "13plus1" because this blog cannot use the "+" symbol in filenames.

"It's alright, don't be afraid. I'm Yuri, from Russia."
"Is that a Digimon next to you? The one behind me is also a Digimon. Although we look completely different, and I'm bigger, you and I are both partners with our own partner Digimon."
"I know you can't go back to your family right now. I heard you've been through a lot of pain. But it's alright now. We're going to a place where we can live safely."
"Someone will come to pick us up soon. They're very reliable. They've saved the world from crisis several times. Although I'm not much older than them."
"Someone will come to pick us up soon. They're very reliable. They've saved the world from crisis several times. Although I'm not much older than them…" "Do you know Japan? They're from there, and they're all good people."
"It's Mr. Yagami Taichi and Mr. Ishida Yamato."
Deep in the mountains of a Nordic country. There are no streetlights, only a road stretching along the mountainside. A little further up the road, there's a cave. At the cave entrance, a giant insect-shaped Digimon silently waits. It's Yuri's partner Digimon—Kuwagamon. Three hours later, the sound of an engine can be heard in the distance.
"Yuri, I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting!" "
In the depths illuminated by the lights, a large figure and a small figure approached. The first to speak was Taichi Yagami, wearing a rugged blue winter jacket bought from an outdoor gear store.
Then, the small figure said:
"Sorry to keep you waiting—"
It was Agumon, an orange, dinosaur-like Digimon.
From the other side of the car, in the driver's seat, stepped Yamato Ishida, wearing a black leather jacket. Following closely behind was Gabumon, a Digimon wearing a blue fur coat.
Yuri arrived at the cave entrance.
"Taichi-san, Yamato-san,"
Yato adjusted his collar.
"Ugh—it's so cold, let's get back to where the door can be opened."
"Would you like to borrow this fur coat, Yamato?"
"No, no need, Gabumon. Speaking of which—"
He switched to English and turned to Yuri.
"What language does that child speak?"
"If it's English, it seems we can communicate, albeit barely." "
Taichi understands that too.
"Great, it's all yours now, Yamato."
"Hey—"
"If it's English, Iori can handle that too—"
From the back of the vehicle, an armadillo-like Digimon, Armadillomon, stepped down.
Standing behind it, Iori Hida, wearing a slightly worn coat, replied somewhat confusedly:
"Uh, it's alright."
The number of children with partner Digimon is increasing worldwide. Since there are now people who are no longer children, they are collectively called "Partner Humans." Humans (PHs) are a group whose numbers double every year, frequently encountering trouble in the real world. They are drawn into crime, targeted for military purposes by governments, and even face religious issues.
Usually, these problems are resolved by returning their partner Digimon to the Digital World. Without a Digimon, PHs are just ordinary people with no special abilities. However, some are considered heretics simply for possessing a partner Digimon, and even persecuted by their families or neighbors.
Tai and his friends have been working to rescue PHs who can no longer live in their original families.
This operation began with Tai… The story begins in high school and gradually becomes more systematic over several years.
Koushirou Izumi is responsible for contacting and gathering intelligence with Phantasms around the world. Because many areas are extremely dangerous, Taichi and Yamato, who are partners with powerful Digimon, are sent on missions. Of the six members, Daisuke, who possesses the ability to open gates to the Digital World, one will accompany them and open the gate.
Sora and Hikari are responsible for taking in the rescued children, including providing psychological support, and overseeing their lives. The youngest member, Iori, was only allowed to participate after entering high school; this time, she is accompanying them to open the gate.
After completing his mission of temporarily protecting the boy before Taichi and the others arrived, Yuri mounted Kuwagamon:
"Well then, the rest is up to you!"
Iori waved:
"Thank you~~"
Kuwagamon flew away, and Taichi and the others' car began to drive along the mountain road.
In the back seat, Iori gently spoke to the boy in English, "What's your name? I'm Hida Iori, sixteen years old."
Although he actually knew the other's name, he still made a point of saying it that way.
"This is Mr. Yamato Ishida driving in the front, and this is Mr. Taichi Yagami next to him."
Yamato, keeping his eyes on the road, said to the person beside him:
"Taichi should learn to speak some English. It'll be helpful when looking for a job."
"I know. But I can speak a little French."
"? Ah, you've been to my grandfather's, haven't you?"
"Speaking of which, Yamato, I knew you had a driver's license, but I didn't know you even had an international driver's license."
"That was my grandfather's last wish. If you at least had a driver's license, you could at least find a job at an animation production company if things really got tough."
"No way!"
Agumon and Gabumon were sitting in the last row, the third row.
Agumon suddenly shouted, "Taichi! I smell a Digimon!"
Gabumon continued, "It's not coming from this car."
Armageddon next to Iori looked back.
“It’s behind us.”
Iori immediately turned around. In the depths of the night sky, devoid of streetlights and other town lights, a bird-like object was approaching.
“It’s huge, not Yuri’s Kuwagamon.”
Taichi saw it too. The bird-shaped Digimon’s sharp talons were already upon it.
“Get out of the way!” Yamato jerked the steering wheel.
“Whoosh!”
The car veered to the left. The talons slashed through the air.
The black bird-shaped Digimon flew straight ahead.
Taichi watched it ascend into the air ahead, circling in a wide arc.
“It’s here again!”
“Damn it! We’re still a distance from where we can open the gate!”
Taichi turned to look at the back seat.
“Iori, you can open the gate with your phone, right?”
“Yes, as long as there’s a network connection. But…”
“Signal!”
Taichi pointed his smartphone at Iori.
“Open the gate, Iori. Even if it's just you and that child, go first.”
“But…”
A circling bird-shaped Digimon approached from the side. Yamato slammed on the brakes. The grappling hook grazed the front of the car. Then it accelerated sharply again.
“Whoa! There’s no time to hesitate!”
“Understood!”
Iori pointed the Digimon D3, which had the gate-opening function, at Taichi’s smartphone.
“Digital Gate, open!”
The LCD screen flashed brightly, its light surging. The gate opened.
“Okay, you go first!”
Iori nodded. The boy, who had been standing anxiously, carried the small Digimon towards the light. He acted without hesitation, perhaps because he was already used to dealing with danger. The boy became a flowing shadow, sucked into the light. Iori and Armadillomon followed closely behind. Then the light dissipated, and the surroundings returned to darkness.
“They’re gone.”
The faces of Agumon and Gabumon peeked out from behind.
"What should we do?"
Yamato's lips curled into a slight smile.
"Need you even ask?"
Taichi glanced at the rear of the car.
"Sure, Agumon!"
"Of course!"
The two of them simultaneously pointed their Digimon at the rear of the car. The energy bars on the LCD screens rose rapidly, two beams shooting straight up from the front of the car into the sky. There lay the boundary of the Digital World database, imperceptible to humans. It was an invisible network, like thin clouds, covering the entire Earth. When the signals from the energy bars reached there, the contact points burst forth with light. From the vast amount of Digimon evolution data, the system filtered out the evolutionary forms that matched the two beams of light and transmitted them to the surface. Two double-helix trajectories plummeted, reaching the rear of the car, instantly filling the interior with light. The signals caused Agumon and Gabumon to rotate, their form information rewritten, even their mass altered.
"Agumon evolves!"
"Gabumon evolves!"
The tailgate of the speeding car opened, a beam of light pouring out, and the figures of Agumon and the others leaped out. Before it even hit the ground, its size had swelled to several times its original size.
“Greymon!”
Gabumon, leaping out after it, transformed into a giant wolf-like form.
“Garurumon!”
The two Digimon pounced directly on the bird-type Digimon approaching from behind. The bird-type Digimon swung its grappling hooks and flapped its massive wings, barely managing to shake off Greymon and the others, however…
“Mega Flame!”
A fireball shot from Greymon's mouth struck its target squarely. It staggered and plummeted towards the valley. At that moment, Garurumon leaped down from above, spewing blue flames from its mouth.
“Fox Fire!”
Although it barely dodged the flames, Garurumon's body pressed down on it, and the two tumbled into the forest together in a fierce struggle. Greymon followed closely behind, charging into the forest. A fierce battle was undoubtedly raging deep within; several trees were torn down and scattered, flames and light flying everywhere.
The light could be seen from the end of the road that circled the foot of the mountain. Taichi sensed this battle wouldn't end anytime soon.
"Is it a Perfect level?"
Yamato answered while driving.
"Should it evolve another level?"
"No, wait!"
A bird-like creature flew out of the forest. Though somewhat unsteady, its external injuries didn't seem serious. After ascending to a height unattainable by Greymon and the others, it suddenly changed direction. The claws on its wings began to emit a dim light.
"Damn it! Get out of the way, Greymon!"
The energy it unleashed instantly scorched a corner of the forest. But Greymon was no longer there. Fireballs and blue flames retaliated, flying from both sides of the charred forest towards the bird-like Digimon.
Greymon and Garurumon had a long history of fighting side-by-side. Faced with an unavoidable double attack, the bird-like Digimon's right wing and tail feathers were damaged, and it swayed and spun downwards. But the space where it fell suddenly distorted, revealing another scene. Ahead was daylight-like brightness. "It's the gate!"
The moment Taiichi watched, the bird-shaped Digimon flew into the bright space. The gate didn't close. It glided up the foothills, gradually approaching Taiichi and the others' car.
"This is bad, Yamato!"
"I know!"
Greymon and the others rushed towards the speeding car. At this speed, the gate shouldn't be able to catch up. However, the gate, which had been approaching from the side, suddenly moved, circling around to the front of the car. At the end of the night road, the sun was visible in the bright space. Neither the car nor Greymon had time to stop, and they were forced into the gate.
Their eyes gradually adjusted to the light.
They looked around.
They were in a desert.
Aside from some undulations and a few structures of unknown origin, all they could see was desert, the sun shining brightly.
"What the hell are we doing here?"
“That was a real ordeal.”
Of course, he knew in his heart that the desert was the Digital World. That said, the Digital World was vast. He had absolutely no idea where it was located. Even so, he had initially thought easily that as long as he could contact Koushiro and the others, everything would be fine.
“But it still took three days.”
Taichi thought, “Two years have passed in the blink of an eye,” taking a sip of his cold tea.
“Sigh, things weren’t easy for us here either.”
Sitting opposite Taichi, Inoue Miyako had an acerola cherry drink in her cup. Perhaps it was to match her red overalls with its many pockets.
“We still don’t know the exact reason for the communication breakdown with the Digital World, but I guess it was probably influenced by some kind of harbinger of the great earthquake that followed.”
Across from Odaiba, in a corner of the Shibaura Warehouse district. It was a warehouse, slightly smaller than the surrounding buildings, but remarkably sturdy. Upon closer inspection, a sign reading “Izumi Research Institute” hung on the door. This was the research institute headed by Izumi Koushiro. Taiichi was currently in the reception room.
Miyako was still a university student, technically a part-time employee rather than a full-time staff member of the research institute. However, since the director and another researcher were always engrossed in their research, she handled almost all the miscellaneous tasks. She always carried a waist bag filled with various tools. The reception room, which was normally as cold as an office, had a certain comfortable atmosphere thanks to her meticulous arrangement of decorations and lighting.
“Even if there's an earthquake, that's several hours from now. But it feels strange that the connection was affected first.”
Taichi had given up, thinking that even Koushiro and the others couldn't figure out the reason, so how could he possibly understand? After all, he didn't even understand the principles underlying communication with the Digital World.
“Although it's good that we were able to safely receive Iori and that boy.”
Koushiro, of course, immediately learned about the situation on the other side of the door Iori had opened and contacted the receiving team. But then the connection was lost.
"Izumi-senpai, no, the director is still thinking about this. I heard he gets very anxious when he can't figure out the cause."
"There's nothing we can do about it, that's just his personality."
Because Koushiro is currently busy with his research and can't leave, they've been left waiting.
"After the earthquake, there was no time to worry about the disconnection."
Miyako continued reminiscing. Taichi only heard about it later.
It was a day two years ago. A few hours after Taichi, Yamato, and the others accidentally wandered into the desert of the Digital World, disaster struck. A massive earthquake struck from the Kanto to the Tohoku region, triggering a tsunami. At that time, the Shibaura Laboratory, where they are now located, had just been established. With the telephone and transportation networks increasingly disrupted, Takenouchi Sora, Kido Jo, and Ichijouji Ken gathered here. They discussed how to respond.
The one who advocated, "There are people in distress who need immediate rescue," was Tachikawa Mimi, who happened to be returning from America.
Ten years ago, in 2001, she witnessed a major event in New York. At that time, she saw children across the United States with partner Digimon gather to help rescue people trapped in the rubble. Although Koushiro had contacted them online, they had never had the opportunity to meet in person. It was through that event that she met her American partners. Undoubtedly, Digimon possess power beyond human comprehension. Everyone gathered with the thought, "Even if we can only help in a little way."
"From an overall perspective, the effect might not be significant. But the important thing is that we try to do what we can," Mimi-senpai said.
Thinking that she herself must do something now, Mimi felt extremely anxious.
However, their Digimon had just returned to the Digital World.
If Digimon stay in the human world indefinitely, their health will gradually deteriorate. They must return to the Digital World periodically. Although there are limitations to what they can do on their own, if they have Digimon… It's just that they can't contact those Digimon right now.
Joe Kido offered a cautious suggestion. Even if they went now, there wouldn't be much they could do. Even volunteering without relying on Digimon would require preparation and transportation. Going there with only enthusiasm would not only be useless, but might even cause trouble. Besides, they were just a group of ordinary students.
Just then, news of the tsunami disaster arrived. They had been given the power of Digimon; were they really helpless in this situation? A sense of futility overwhelmed them.
"If Taichi or Daisuke had been there then, things might have been different."
Motomiya Daisuke and Takaishi Takeru went to the Digital World to rescue Iori and the boy, while Yagami Hikari went as support.
"When we finally came back, everyone was very downcast."
Taichi recalled that time, a complex expression on his face. Although Taichi and Yamato had also experienced many hardships, that was another story.
“Speaking of that massive earthquake…”
“Right, right, putting aside Taichi-senpai and the others, it’s impossible for someone in Japan to not know about that. Especially in the Tohoku region.”
“That guy, he said he didn’t know.”
Miyako was referring to the person who appeared here yesterday.
“There were other things that felt strange, or rather, unsettling, a lot of discordant aspects about him.”
“That being said, this isn’t the first time you’ve met that person, is it?”
“This time last year, I only saw him once. Uh, none of Taichi-senpai’s generation has ever seen him.”
Besides Miyako, Daisuke, Takeru, Ken, Hikari, and Iori, no one else had seen that person.
“We haven’t seen him since, and then he came back, but it feels like…”
There were significant discrepancies between Miyako and the others’ memories of their meeting last year and those of that person.
"My account is basically the same as Daisuke's, only he's saying something different. But it doesn't seem right to just overwhelm them with numbers. Besides, the address of the place he mentioned he stayed at can't be found."
"That's why we decided to go to the site. It was Takeru who led everyone there, right? They went all the way to the Tohoku region."
"It just so happens that Joe's older brother is there too."
"It's Mr. Shu. Takeru and he seem to get along particularly well."
"But that wasn't the only reason Takeru took everyone there."
Although much of the snow had melted, Aomori remained cold.
Kido Joe's second older brother, Osamu, stepped out of his car, parked on a hillside a little distance from town, and onto the open field. He then turned back.
"This is the place, isn't it?"
The address you mentioned, the place where you used to live.
Compared to Takeru, who was thin and always gave off an unreliable air, Osamu was slightly more robust and taller. His seemingly thin jacket offered far more warmth than it appeared. This attire was perfect for field research. A large, sturdy notebook was tucked into an inner pocket, but it wasn't visible from the outside.
Takaishi Takeru, following closely behind, also turned around. He wore a thin jacket over a thick long-sleeved T-shirt, looking relaxed, except for a pair of sturdy boots.
"Isn't it, Rui?"
The young man, Owada Rui, who had appeared at the research institute a few days ago, was now standing motionless beside the car. At the edge of the nohara, there was no trace of his former relatives' house.
3 "Although the earthquake was similar, the memories of meeting Kyo and the others, and the memories of Hikari-gaoka before that, were all a bit off from the start."
Finally arriving at the reception room from the research lab, Izumi Koushiro took a sip of his black tea and began to speak:
"He said he'd always lived in Hikari-gaoka."
Taichi was drinking coffee. Although he wanted beer, he couldn't do so until he heard Koushiro's story. As he listened, he wondered if the research lab even had any beer.
"Yes, until ten years ago, in 2003. But the first time he saw a Digimon battle was in the spring of 2003, and it was on a television screen."
A year ago, when Rui met Miyako, Ken, Daisuke, and the others, a giant Digi-Egg appeared near Tokyo Tower. Rui and Daisuke crawled into that Digi-Egg.
"Then, he saw me as a child with Hikari."
Inside the Digi-Egg, Daisuke was watching past images of Hikari.
"So Daisuke-kun thought the world inside the Digi-Egg was Hikari in 1995."
He then saw Rui's family situation and the scene of Rui's encounter with Digimon.
"But he didn't know about the later events involving Greymon and Parrotmon."
"The next Digimon-related event that Rui remembers, unrelated to himself, was reported in the Odaiba News. It was about the battle against Apocalymon in the spring of 2003. During this time, he also didn't know about the battle between Mammothmon and Birdramon that took place in Hikari Hill in the summer of 1999, or the battle that also took place in Hikari Hill at the end of 2002."
"That's a bit of a stretch. He should have been in the upper grades of elementary school then, right? Could it be that he wasn't actually in Hikari Hill, or perhaps in another world's Hikari Hill?"
"There's another explanation."
"Oh, what is it?"
"Ukomon, which Rui mentioned. It has the ability to give everyone a partner Digimon."
According to Rui, Ukomon, the Digimon who became Rui's in 1995, decided to give all humans in the world a partner Digimon to fulfill Rui's wish.
"While this ability is far too powerful for an ordinary Digimon, we don't know everything about Digimon, so this possibility isn't zero. However, this is just hearsay, without any evidence."
Koushiro began with this premise—after all, whether Ukomon is even considered an ordinary Digimon is questionable—before continuing:
"We all know there's a world that can not only grant wishes but also materialize them."
In late 2002, Daisuke and his friends were in such a place when they fought BelialVamdemon.
Koushiro and his friends also remembered similar incidents. When they first entered the Digital World, phenomena such as a computer suddenly turning on in a place without any power source and a soft hat hardening occurred. But amidst the overall mystery of the Digital World, these weren't anything to be alarmed about.
"Speaking of 'the ability to grant wishes,' it's somewhat difficult to understand, but if it's just the ability to create Digimon, it's not entirely impossible."
So far, they have seen many Digimon with unimaginable abilities.
“It would probably require an astonishing amount of energy, not to mention the unimaginable workload for mass production. It's hard to believe a Digimon could do that. Rather than that, it's more likely to make Rui believe he did it himself; that way, the probability of success is higher.”
“You mean you lied to him?”
Taichi finished speaking but then felt his explanation seemed a bit strange.
If it was deception, then it was making him believe that he was responsible for the increase in partner Digimon. But at that time, there weren't any Digimon like that. It would require being able to accurately predict that their numbers would increase later. It would require being able to make the precise prediction that “they will gradually increase later.”
“Perhaps I slightly modified his memories.”
“What memories?”
“First, the era.”
Koushiro continued, “Although from here on, it's just an assumption.”
It wasn't about predicting that the number of partner Digimon would increase in the future, but rather that if they already knew their numbers were increasing, then predicting further increases would be much easier.
The most difficult thing to alter in Rui's memories was probably his birthday. Born on February 29th in a leap year. Since he was in the same year as Daisuke and the others, he must have been born in 1992.
"If we push this date forward one cycle, he was born in 1996. If he was born in that year, some things become easier to explain."
If he was born in 1996, then it's not surprising that he knows nothing about what happened in 1995 or 1999. Although the events of late 2002 were somewhat complicated, he was only six years old then.
"Then what about the scene Daisuke saw in 1995?"
"If we consider Daisuke a witness and he's set some kind of trap for us…"
"Trap?"
"That was just past footage seen in a Digi-Egg. And it seems like the material was deliberately chosen for Daisuke to see."
"He definitely saw the news about the World-Destroying Monster on TV in the spring of 2003, right? Maybe that's what triggered Ukomon to appear and appear next to L-type. And then he altered his memories."
"There's no evidence for that hypothesis, is there?"
"There's one thing that's certain in Rui's memories: his parents are no longer alive." "Since this involves a case, let's try searching."
Koushirou, operating a tablet with a pineapple logo, displayed a news report from 2003. The report stated that a bedridden man and his wife, who had died from exhaustion while caring for him, were found alive, though their only son had an eye injury.
"Because there are no follow-up reports, the specifics are unknown,"
"But the son's injury might indicate he attempted suicide. In Rui's memory, that happened when he was eleven. If time were reversed four years, making him seven, the psychological impact would be immeasurable. At that point in time, manipulating memories would be much easier. Ukomon might have fabricated the idea that 'it has been with Rui for years.'
"Then it lured him to that world of his relatives in the northeast, to live a life used to conceal the age difference with that world. Of course, as I said at the beginning, everything Rui said is true, and the claim that he comes from that world is also valid. There is currently no conclusive evidence." "But in our world, it would be more convincing to explain why he didn't know about the events of '99."
Miyako listened with considerable admiration. Taichi and Koushiro's conversation was moving at an alarming pace. Both were quick-witted and possessed exceptional comprehension. One could easily fall behind if not careful. Now, a chance to add some explanation finally arose.
"I think, for a student in the same year as Daisuke and Ken, Rui looks quite thin and small. If he were younger than Iori, it would be very convincing."
"He just thinks he's in his twenties."
Taichi still hadn't seen Rui in person. Another question arose: Why did Ukomon do that?
4
"There's a legend called the Lost House,"
Kido Osamu said while driving:
"Although it's famous because of Yanagita Kunio's Tono Monogatari, it's actually a story that circulated from the Kanto to the Tohoku region. It's about a phantom house deep in the mountains. Although it's slightly different from that legend, the place we just went to… Hachinohe in Aomori, you should know that name, right?" "From one household, two households, three households, to eight households, nine households, and finally Herai. The pronunciation of Herai sounds similar to 'Hebrew,' doesn't it? There's also a theory that Christ came to Japan."
"Mr. Osamu,"
The man in the back seat interrupted him.
"Ah, it's alright, it's alright, I won't digress. Between one and nine households, there's a place called Shiko-no-no (Fourth Household). The place names after San-no … "Shu is a folklorist who frequently conducts field research on folk legends.
'You're already this busy, even though you just became a teaching assistant.'
'And the salary is low. It's thanks to that that I haven't been able to replace this car.'
'Speaking of which,'
Takeru said, while keeping a closer eye on Rui,
'Shihu really has nothing.'
'There's a city site nearby called Shihu Castle, right on our route, so let's go check it out.'"
5
“I see. I understand a little better about the kind.”
In the research institute's reception room, Taichi and the others continued their conversation.
“However, regarding the memory issue,”
Koushiro said, looking down,
“We don't remember much about 1995 either.”
“That's true. After all, I was only in first grade then.”
Taichi and the others suddenly remembered it when they revisited Hikarigaoka in 1999.
Miyako also remembered what Ken had said.
“Ken also said he didn't remember anything unpleasant. But what about before that?”
Ken seemed to have mentioned to Kyo that he remembered fighting alongside another boy who had a partner Digimon. Koushiro seemed to have heard about this as well.
“Is it really a memory issue, or…”
A woman who came from the research lab joined the conversation.
"You came to this world from that world of memories, didn't you?"
"Ah, Miss Menoa's situation is similar."
Wearing the same research lab uniform as Koushiro, and now sporting short hair, Menoa sat down next to Miyako and continued speaking.
Like Rui, she also possessed memories different from Taichi and the others present here. Although she was the same age as Taichi, she had already become a professor researching Digimon at an American university. She was even involved in a battle with Taichi and the others. Only she possessed those memories.
"However, the world in my memories is…"
She paused.
"Of course, the biggest difference is whether or not there's a Morpheus."
"Miss Menoa's partner Digimon…"
"Someone who skipped grades to become a university professor with her Digimon, Izzy didn't even notice, it's that kind of world."
"Please don't call me Izzy anymore."
Koushiro finally interjected.
“Ah, yes, President.”
“That way of addressing me as ‘President’…”
“Yes, yes, that’s right. In this world, I’m the Director. But in my memory, Izzy—no, Izumi Koushiro—was the company’s President. I haven’t shaken that habit.”
Although she was clearly saying it on purpose, it seemed to be just her personality.
“Um, it’s not just Ms. Menoa who said Izumi-senpai was the President, is it?”
“Whether it’s the Director or the President, someone like me couldn’t possibly not have noticed, couldn’t possibly not know. I’ve experienced this firsthand ever since we started researching together here. His information gathering is on another order of magnitude.”
“However, after all, this research institute was established thanks to Ms. Menoa.”
Koushiro said this, perhaps to hide his shyness. In reality, half of the initial funding was provided by Menoa; in essence, she was a co-operator, but it was Menoa who ultimately decided that Koushiro would be the Director.
“After all, the same amount of funding as becoming president, and the same amount I remember, was earned through patent fees—that's for sure. There are other things too.”
Although Menoa rarely talked about the past, Rui's arrival seemed to have awakened her memories. She gave several examples, such as memories of that suspicious assistant, and even her own memories were hazy, then said:
“Most importantly, why did I think of that kind of thing, why did I come to that conclusion? I really can't remember.” Menoa lowered her eyes slightly.
“Like the idea that ‘the possibilities decrease after growing up’”
“Speaking of which,”
Taichi interjected.
“Your Japanese has improved quite a bit, Menoa.”
“Isn’t it?”
Menoa responded with a smile.
“By the way, not just the director, but Taichi and the others too.”
Yamato, Takeru, Mimi, and even Sora, whom she didn't see at the time.
“The people I know, the people in my memories, are fundamentally different from you now. Daisuke and Miyako too. I mentioned this to Rui yesterday when he told me his story.”
6
“If it were the people here, back then…”
Menoa had said this to Rui a few days ago.
That was when she settled her score with her former Digimon partner.
“They would definitely find another way to resolve it. They probably will too, with you.”
Rui was reflecting on those words.
In this area known as the Ruins of Shinobu Castle, the Ruins of Kindaichi Castle, there was no trace of where he had ever lived. So, where was he now? How much of what happened last year when he met Daisuke and the others was real? No, ultimately, how much of the memory of believing his parents were still alive was true?
Witnessing this, Takeru spoke up:
"When I first met Patamon—my partner Digimon…
I experienced all sorts of things. But in this world, it was only a few days.
"Personally, it felt like more than half a year, maybe even longer. My sense of time was severely distorted. For a while afterward, I couldn't talk to my classmates."
Perhaps the mental changes were more drastic than the temporal changes.
"Was what happened back then a dream? Or something else? Although I think it's impossible, I still hope it wasn't… I keep thinking about these things. Although there were many painful things, there were also beautiful memories."
"Um, if possible…"
After several hours, Rui spoke up:
"Could you please tell me about that in more detail?"
"Eh, of course."
"There's still plenty of time,"
Shu said from the driver's seat.
"After all, we're driving this car to Tokyo, it's quite a long journey." "I might miss dinner."
"Yeah."
"Besides, I've only heard bits and pieces from my brother and sister. I'd like to hear the whole story."
"Ah, is that so? Well, although this is just my perspective, if you'd like…"
Takeru took a sip of bottled water and began:
"It started as summer camp. Because my brother's school was going to the mountains for summer vacation, our parents contacted each other, and that's how I ended up joining too."
Rui began to listen to this summer story, both long and short. 7
“How’s Geneva?”
Koushiro asked. Taichi, hands behind his head, looked up at him.
“Ah, well. Those old foxes, really. But thanks to Catherine’s relatives putting in a good word, it’s finally settled.”
Taichi met Catherine on his first trip to Paris in late 2002; her partner was Floramon. It was said to be a family with considerable influence in French political and business circles. Taichi had just returned home as a witness for the UN Human Rights Committee.
The number of children with partner Digimon is doubling every year. When their numbers were still small, they could live in wealthy families in America or India, using the mansions, spacious yards, or ranches of their partner humans. But before they could hide from the surrounding gaze any longer, they gradually moved their lives to the Digital World.
The Digital World is roughly the size of Earth. Although there are no humans, there are many usable buildings. With the right location, a considerable number of people can live there, and the supply of water and food is not a problem. Although dangerous Digimon sometimes appear in the surrounding area, the children living there are all with their partner Digimon. Their safety is guaranteed to a minimum. With the establishment of several such protected areas, the younger generation after Daisuke and his friends, now university students, take turns caring for them. Since they also live apart from their partner Digimon most of the time, they are happy to frequently visit the Digital World to spend time with them.
As the number of rescued children increases, Taichi and his friends' rescue activities are quietly attracting attention. Doubts have arisen in human society, with some accusing them of kidnapping. It was under these circumstances that the United Nations contacted them, and Taichi attended a secret meeting of the Human Rights Commission as their representative. As a result, although they haven't received formal recognition, it seems the United Nations has finally acknowledged their activities.
"But we have to dress properly there, it feels quite restrictive," Taichi said, currently wearing a casual hoodie.
"It's just that I have to sit still on the plane the whole way there and back, it's unbearable!"
"After all, we usually just cross into the Digital World through the main gate."
Although he complained about the hassle, he managed to charm those troublesome adults. No wonder he's Taichi-senpai, Miyako thought to himself as he answered.
"Speaking of which, about that earlier…"
Taichi turned his gaze to Koushiro and Menoa.
"How many people are there now? Someone who said they had a partner Digimon before us?"
"I've met five directly, and only heard of three… no, it should be four."
"Why does Koushiro's answer seem a bit vague this time?"
"More than eight people in total. There are eight of us in our generation. Based on the subsequent growth, there should have been seven before that."
Koushiro and Taichi's group encountered Digimon in 1999. That year, they were the only eight new members of PH, and the number doubled every year afterward. "Going back, there were four in 1998, two the year before, and one in 1996, totaling seven."
"If it's more than eight, the numbers don't add up, and the era of the first encounter with Digimon is strange too."
"That's why Izzy suggested, 'Are we from a parallel world?'"
Menoa continued the conversation.
“Although I and the others may come from different worlds,”
“but if we say our meeting was before 1995, that doesn’t fit the current situation.”
The example Koushiro gave referred to someone different from Menoa and Rui.
“If it’s four people, that makes even less sense.”
“Although actually only one person said that.”
One of the four people Taichi mentioned was guarding the room of another person who was asleep.
8 A sanatorium located on a hill in the Kanagawa Peninsula. Surrounded by forests and some distance from the town, it receives very few visitors. Even the name “sanatorium” is only temporary; although it has a formal hospital name, the elderly patients have always called it a sanatorium. Although the building itself is small, it does have wards, but since two years ago, only one man, who has been in a coma, has been lying in bed.
“Eh, what did you just say!” "…"
Himekawa Maki pressed the call button and asked Nishijima, the man lying on the hospital bed. The room door opened, and a nurse with messy hair, barely covered by a cap, rushed in.
"What's wrong?"
"He just spoke. It seems he's regained consciousness."
"I'll go call the doctor right away!" "
The nurse turned and left, but Nishijima's consciousness didn't immediately return.
It's said that the man, Nishijima, was Taichi and the others' homeroom teacher when they were in high school. That was just a disguise; he was actually an investigator for a government agency. He once had a partner Digimon. After being involved in a long-running incident involving Taichi and the others, he should have died. These words came from the simply dressed woman who had been by their bedside—Himekawa Maki. She also belonged to the agency and had also had a partner Digimon. There were supposedly two other people, making a total of four from The Chosen Children. Himekawa Maki's account of the past contradicted Koushiro's hypothesis. If it was Taichi and the others' previous generation, while the number of four matched, the age difference of more than five years was too large.
Years ago, Himekawa disappeared into the darkness, and her memories…" Therefore, the journey was interrupted. Upon regaining consciousness, she discovered that her institution no longer existed, only knowing that Nishijima, whom she thought was dead, was still alive. However, Nishijima was in a coma at the time. After she recounted everything that had happened at the hospital where Nishijima was, the information somehow reached her here, and she was persuaded to move to this sanatorium. She also rented a small room nearby and began commuting there daily. Were her memories real, or had she been transported to a remarkably similar parallel world? In any case, only Nishijima could unravel the mystery; she could only hope he would regain consciousness. She could only wait for that moment to arrive.
This sanatorium was not only dilapidated, but the director was also elderly. The young doctor who had arrived with Nishijima was now the vice-director, responsible for handling major affairs.
"Really, my lord?" "
Kido Shin, Kido's older brother and vice-director, only turned his chair halfway, glanced at the room out of the corner of his eye, and still showed no intention of getting up. While adjusting the crooked nurse's cap that few people wear these days, Motomiya Jun, Motomiya Daisuke's older sister, replied:
"Really!! I'll go to room 104 right away."
"Before that,"
Shin pointed to a corner of the room.
"Could you please keep your Digimon from running around?"
"Ahhhhh, Poison!"
Jun picked up her Digimon.
"Although not many people come, if it frightens a patient or annoys someone, strange rumors might spread."
"Yes, yes, I understand!"
"I know he's not a bad kid, but it's just that appearance…"
It was a small Digimon with a spider-like appearance.
"Yes! I'm not a bad kid! So stay here obediently." " Hidden under the cabinet and closing the lid, Chun turned around and saw Xin holding a smartphone.
'I need to contact Joe first,' she thought."
9
“They told me to go to the sanatorium right away.”
Joe Kido said to Gomamon in his large bag.
“Since it was Shin-chan who said it, there’s nothing I can do about it. By the way, is there anything I can do?”
“I heard Mr. Nishijima might have woken up.”
“Is he the one who’s been sleeping all this time?”
“Yeah, I’m not too busy today, perfect.”
Joe is an intern doctor. Because he works at the hospital where his father works, he can get some leeway. Rather, it’s something his father arranged specifically so he could contact him easily if anything happened. This is how his father shows his thoughtfulness towards his son as a “partner human.”
“I hope I can get there before dark.”
Joe walked towards the station with his backpack.
10
“I heard Mr. Nishijima has regained consciousness.”
In one of the protected areas in the Digital World, on a quiet plateau, inside a solitary, concrete-block-like building, Sora Takenouchi said to Hikari Yagami. Sora wore a blue baseball cap, a bright pink long-sleeved T-shirt, a short-sleeved T-shirt over it, and a long-sleeved shirt tied over her jeans. This was in case she needed to lend it to someone. Hikari wore a hooded dress, with a digital device in her small bag. At first glance, it seemed simple, but underneath she wore a three-quarter-sleeved top and three-quarter-sleeved pants, so the dress could also be used as a cushion if necessary.
Upon closer inspection, the building the two were in was unexpectedly enormous. It wasn't a single structure, but seemed to be a combination of various buildings. The three brothers from Hong Kong, whose partner Digimon was Tridacnamon, were delighted to find that this place resembled the demolished, hellish building from their childhood memories, and thus began to call it that.
(Kowloon Walled City)
The project of diverting water from a rather large lake above the plateau, which normally required a large workforce, was surprisingly completed in a very short time thanks to the hard work of the three brothers and Tridacnamon. Thanks to them, the transfer of the children from the real world to this protected area was accelerated. As occasionally happens in the Digital World, this building can also utilize electricity from an unknown source. Therefore, the approximately thirty people currently housed here can live a relatively comfortable life. Given its questionable stability, solar panels and batteries have been installed, along with a computer for communicating with the real world—this is the room.
"Looks like it'll be back to normal soon."
"If it's about Mr. Nishijima, it's probably better to talk to Mei-kun."
"Yes, after all, they're in the same group."
Mei Mochizuki, the same age as Sora, commonly known as Mei, has settled in this protected area without a partner Digimon, taking care of the children.
She shares memories with Maki Himekawa and Daigo Nishijima. It's said she experienced many things with them, as well as Taichi and others. Sora and Hikari, however, don't have those memories.
"Well, I'll go get her now."
"Ah, that Mr. Nishijima…"
Sora called out to her.
“Mr. Nishijima said something.”
Hikari found it rare to see Sora looking so hesitant. She immediately understood why Sora was looking at her like that.
“He said, the gloomy sea.”
“That refers to… the Dark Sea, right?”
Hikari froze for a moment.
11
“If it’s that sea…”
Rui, who had been listening to a lot of stories in the car, finally interjected,
“I’ve been there too. No, I should say I feel like I’ve been there. Although I’m not entirely sure.”
Takeru was recounting his elementary school experiences, which took place in 2002, the year of the second major event. It happened from spring to the end of the year, and now it was early summer. He was recounting his experience visiting a place different from the ordinary Digital World.
“Although I’ve only actually been there once. But I always felt uneasy at the time. The way the gate opened that time was very unusual.
It was a gloomy seaside town that seemed to be perpetually shrouded in mist.
“Not just Hikari and me, it’s said that Ken also went there before that, but he said his memory of it wasn’t very clear.” "Did Daisuke and the others only see it through the gate?"
"It's not here, nor is it in the Digital World. Is there some other similar place?"
"The town you were supposed to live in might be part of it."
Shu joined the conversation from the driver's seat.
"If that's the case, I'm a little envious. Because besides this world, I've only been to the Digital World once."
Rui was somewhat surprised.
"Eh, Mr. Shu, you've been to the Digital World too?"
"So, only briefly."
"Shu, that matter is a bit complicated, let's talk about it later."
Takeru steered the conversation back on track.
"Can I continue? That strange Digimon in the Dark Sea…" "No, actually I'm not sure if that was really a Digimon."
Although he sensed a hint of ambiguity in his calm tone, Rui listened silently. The story Takeru told about Taichi and the others with Agumon was indeed captivating.
But if that's the case, what about me? What about my own experiences? My memories?
(Listen a little longer.)
A voice echoed in his mind.
(Stop here for now. You can ask your questions later.)
This wasn't the first time. Guided by the voice that had been ringing in his ears for the past few days, he had come to Koushiro's lab.
Who are you?
(Look, we're getting to the crucial point. You'll learn about Ken Ichijouji.)
Yes, the Ken Ichijouji in Takeru's story was completely different from the gentle, seemingly kind Ken Rui knew. At this moment, everything was reaching a major turning point. Ask your questions later. Rui listened intently.
Today I'm posting some news about Digimon Adventure Beyond.
On the occasion of the first anniversary of Digimon Adventure Beyond, could you please provide a brief introduction to the world inhabited by the Chosen Children?
Adventures and trials seem to be a part of their daily lives, but could you elaborate further?
Answer from Kakudou: Please wait a little longer.)

This is the second doujinshi I've worked on with friends recently. This is the cover, but this time it's not related to the Christmas theme; it's actually a sequel.
