Nomura returned to 2nd Unit an hour later. Alone.
“So?” Kirisawa asked looking up from his work. The rest of 2nd Unit stopped what they were doing and looked over to the Deputy Chief.
“I got some interesting information from Nonnie. Kyobashi, I hope you don’t mind that I sent her home for the day,” Nomura replied.
“Under the circumstances, it’s fine,” Kyobashi nodded.
“Also,” Nomura continued, “Kimura had finished some preliminary forensics work and brought the results while I was on my way back here.” He took a seat from the center table and sat down. “The ink is from a pen that is rather limited in ownership. I just so happen to own one.” He took out the pen from inside his jacket pocket.
“That’s a Waterman pen, isn’t it?” Hanai asked, peering over Nomura’s shoulder.
“Wow!” Eiki exclaimed. “There’s a list of registered owners, right? Or was that a rumor?”
“Nope, there is a list of Waterman pen owners. Kimura already generated the list of owners in the Tokyo district.” He took out a folded piece of paper from his jacket pocket and opened it. “Other than myself, there’s about three other people who owns a Waterman pen.”
Kyobashi took the list and scrutinized it. “Hmm. I see. Shibasaki would have one.”
“Shibasaki?” Tennoji asked, furrowing his brow. “Who’s he?”
Kirisawa stood up and walked over to Kyobashi, taking the list from him. “ He’s an actual Prince from a foreign country studying botanical pharmaceuticals under the assumed name of Ren Shibasaki. We’ve known about him due to his status and at the request of his home country. It’s highly doubtful he would do this.”
Nomura nodded. “The other two who own this type of pen are part of Tres Spades Hotel.”
“That’s the one with the legal casino?” Eiki asked, his eyes widened.
“Yes,” Nomura replied. “Eisuke Ichinomiya, is the billionaire who owns the Tres Spades, and Soryu Oh, the head of the Ice Dragons.”
“Ice Dragons?” Hanai asked. “That’s the..”
“Mafia group that Nonnie’s father ran into trouble with several years ago,” Kyobashi interrupted, nodding over to the information still up on his computer screen.
“I see you’ve done some research as well, Kyobashi,” Nomura replied.
“I don’t get it,” Tennoji said. “How’d that casino get legalized if Rich Homie’s known to be connected to the mafia?”
“The mafia has nothing to do with the operations of Tres Spades,” Nomura sighed. “Soryu Oh went to the same boarding school as Ichinomiya. They’re childhood friends.”
Eiki nodded, “So that would also explain why both of them would have a Waterman pen.”
Kirisawa gave the list back to Nomura. “Apparently Ichinomiya gave Oh a Waterman pen for Christmas one year. Oh also acts as Ichinomiya’s bodyguard.”
The discussion paused when Kimura came into 2nd Unit. “The handwriting analysis from all of the local pen owners comes up with no matches,” he said. “The forged signature is too neat to be considered something done with the non-dominate hand.”
“So it could be someone who had “borrowed” the pen?” Asano asked.
“Or someone outside of Tokyo who also owns that pen,” Eiki added. “Were there any other Waterman pen owners residing in Hong Kong or the rest of Japan?”
Kimura nodded, before going over to the computer on the center table. After accessing his system remotely, he pulled up the full list of Waterman owners.
Eiki peered over Kimura’s shoulder as he studied the list. “Can you send us all a copy?” he asked. “We’ll need to do a lot of cross checking of names to who might have any involvement with the Ice Dragons.”
“Ice Dragons?” Jasmine repeated, as she and Sumire returned from Archive 3. “What about them?”
“You’re originally from Hong Kong, weren’t you?” Hanai asked.
Jasmine nodded. “Yeah, when I was little I was friends with the guy who’s the current head, Soryu Oh. Why?”
“It’s connected to what’s happening with Nonnie,” Nomura said. “Perhaps you can help us figure out what’s going on, Jasmine.”
Jasmine nodded. “I’m pretty sure Soryu wouldn’t be behind this, but I’ll set aside my personal relationship with him for the good of this investigation.”
Sumire, meanwhile, had plopped down next to Eiki’s desk, to resume her (now cold) coffee drinking. “Has anything new come up with this situation?”
Eiki nodded, “Yeah, we...”
“I’m back!” Dori called out, as she entered 2nd Unit, nearly slamming the door on Heather, who was running down the hall, in the failed attempt to catch up with her. “Sorry, H,” Dori muttered.
“Nah, I should’ve known you’d have your headphones on,” Heather said.
“Oh good,” Kirisawa said. “Now that all of you are here, I’ll update you guys on the info we got.”
Fifteen minutes later, everyone had their noses to their computer screens or with printouts of the list of Waterman pen owners. No one said anything, but everyone already planned on pulling overtime that night.
