hi! i’m nora, and i’m going into my second year of university, although this is the first year i’ll be a residential student and living on - campus. i’ve looked through tons of information online to compile my own, and i’ll be sure to update this once i arrive and figure out what i forgot / what i didn’t actually need.

dormitory packing list: the bare essentials

hello! since im about to start packing for back to school, here’s my personal list of things i’m going to bring to my dormitory. the conditions of my dormitory is kind of different from other dormitories. we are required to “go home” and generally stay out of the dormitory every weekend due to renovations, so this is a very minimal list because i have to leave every weekend. i also live in the philippines so we don’t have different seasons so i probably have a lot less stuff than other people from other countries might need. either way, i hope this gives you an idea of things to pack for school!

hello!!! i feel like i’m making this list for myself but obv it’s also for others who need some ideas on what to buy/take to college or university this fall! i’m going to be adding on to it throughout the summer as I collect more things. (also! things i ordered online are linked!)

monthly & weekly planner - note: i LOVE this planner. it’s so inexpensive but very useful and not too busy in terms of page layout. & it has vertical daily columns which i LIVE for.

Sorry for the major delay in posting this from when I said I would, but my ultimate college packing list is here! The bulk of this post is the printable itself, but I will include a few pieces of information here. I have included a bit of a preview above, but the actual document is 8 pages. 

The document is a packing list, but I have also included some bonus information. I have notes about why I chose to include something or additional info written in green, and I have items that you shouldn’t bring written in red. Also, items that I think are extra important to bring are annotated with a pink star next to them!

College Packing List

  For some of you, it's almost time to move into your dorms. Do you have everything you need? There’s so much stuff to buy, so it can get overwhelming. To help you, admitted.ly has compiled a list of things that you should get for your dorm. This is only a short list, so don’t just rely solely on this list to pack/shop.

1. Bedding

- bed linen (make sure to check bed size)

- pillows

- pillow cases

- comforter

- mattress pad (makes bed more comfortable)

2. Toiletries

- shower caddy

- shampoo

- soap

- face wash

- towels

- flip flops

- hair dryer

- toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash

- medicine essentials + first aid kit (Advil, allergy medicine, cold medicine, bandages, alcohol wipes, etc.)

- lotion, deodorant

3. Room Essentials

- trash bin

- desk lamp (sometimes the lights aren’t very bright)

- alarm clock

- fan

- tupperware (for “stealing” food from dining hall) + utensils

- bulletin board/white board

- power strips

- clothes hangers

- snacks + ramen/instant mac and cheese (you will be grateful for these during late night studying or if you’re just not liking the dining hall food)

- water bottle

- water filter

- wall hooks

- disinfecting wipes

- pictures (to make your dorm more homey)

- microwave/fridge (most campuses give the option to rent one)

4. Clothes (check the weather of your college to determine what you need)

- one or two sets of semi formal clothes (for presentations, interviews, dances)

- jackets (windbreaker, waterproof jacket, winter jacket, pea coat, fleece, etc.)

- undergarments

- tops (blouses, button-ups, t-shirts, sweaters, cardigans, hoodies)

- bottoms (jeans, slacks, shorts, skirts, sweats)

- workout clothes

- gloves, scarves, hat (anything to keep you warm)

- pajamas

- shoes (dress shoes/heels, flats, running shoes, casual shoes, boots, rain/snow boots)

5. Laundry

- laundry basket/hamper

- laundry detergent/fabric softener/stain remover

- dry sheets

- quarters for machines

6. School/Class related

- laptop (decide whether you’re a Mac or a PC person)

- Ethernet cable (some college dorms don’t have wi-fi access)

- chargers (cell phone, laptop, ipod)

- headphones (very helpful when you’re studying)

- school supplies

- printer + paper (if you decide to bring a printer)

- memory stick

7. Personal

- insurance card (incase you need to see doctor)

- camera

- ipod

- i.d.

The list is a bit scary since it’s so long. If you do forget something, don’t panic. You can always order it online and have it shipped to your dorm or purchase it in your school bookstore. Now all you have to do is pack everything into your car....that might take a while. Time to use your Tetris skills!
