Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III in Monaco on 6 May 1955. Grace had been in Cannes to promote her film The Country Girl when a French journalist arranged a meeting between her and the Prince at the palace.
On the day of their meeting there was labour strike which meant that there was no electricity in the city and so Grace could not dry her hair or iron her clothes. Instead she put her hair up, covering it with a floral headband and wore a drop-waist silk floral dress that didn't require ironing. She had to take the stairs as the elevator was out of order and would later get into a minor car accident causing her to be late to her meeting with Rainier, who had to leave. Grace was given a tour of the 225-room palace by herself and later met with the Prince who gave her a tour of his private zoo.
The two didn't expect to meet again but soon after this meeting they would continue to write to each other in secret for eight months. Over Christmas that year Prince Rainier was invited to stay with the Kelly family in Philadelphia - only the second time he and Grace had met in person. Shortly after arriving Prince Rainier proposed to Grace. Their engagement was announced in January 1956 and the two married in Monaco in April.

The first of the roughly 7000 Grace Kelly blogs in the fandom - Talita (@dosesofgrace)
Grace Kelly is one of those royals I know nothing about and yet completely and utterly adore. It’s probably because we have the same name. It’s also because of just how wonderful this blog is. There is so much information on Grace on this blog and Talita cleverly interweaves facts with vintage photos and miscelleaneous. Her charities page links to the actual charities. Talita also runs a Diana blog (@tributetodiana) which is just so clean and nice to look at it.
Huge shoutout to Talita aka @dosesofgrace aka @williamholdenappreciation for always, always being such a kind sweetheart! If y'all are fans of Grace Kelly and William Holden, please do go follow her wonderful blogs! She does a beautiful job with them 💖💕💖💕💖
A dream I didn't know I had but it now can't leave my mind: talking to Silvia in Portuguese. That would be a highlight in my life. That's all, felt I had to share this with you.
Hahahah I love this. I always love to see royals slipping in to their native languages in unexpected situations. Like when someone starts speaking Spanish to Maxima, she looks so happy to have the chance to speak in the language she grew up around! Also you could totally share some royal secrets and no one would know (not that I’m suggesting anything… haha)
Você é a minha pessoa...
