honestly yes!!! i miss displeasures of the flesh a lot, but its been a long time since ive thought about it in depth. i worry i wont be able to capture kaon as i did before :( but i wouldn’t mind trying!!! please feel free to ask me questions about him and vos!

Been a while since I posted on here. This draft is taking me far longer than I'd hoped, but it's still in progress! I've written over 200k of the draft - no way in hell am I abandoning it now.

Back at it again with Imaginary friend AU shennanigans

So, at some point during the latter half of this AU Chu Tian keeps sending Shen Yuhua on seemingly the most random of fetch quests-

(Sidenote- I am jotting these down as “Shen Yuhua “speedruns” her character growth regarding viewing demons as people” development missions.) (I say speedrun, but the beauty of a kid-fic esque au is that I can shove years-worth more of interactions in her direction and have her be much more eased into it than cannon Yuhua did lmao)

-And Swallowtail found out about this whole thing by accident (which is definitely a whole thing but i haven't thought that far yet) so now HES getting dragged along too, and between point A and point C they end up meeting Leng Feng-

What I’m getting at here is secret childhood friends. Do you see my vision

if you dont mind me asking, how would you describe the writing style for displeasures of the flesh? you’ve mentioned it a couple of times and im curious!!! :)

okay tbh i havent read it in a while, so idk how accurate this is, but the way i write has definitely like… developed in a certain direction over the years. ive always been long winded, but displeasures of the flesh is much more to the point and less spelled out i think than my more recent fics. usually my pov characters have a tendency to go on tangents, but dotf’s yn was just kind of snappy with it??? i think???? im ngl describing my writing style is very very hard for me because, unless im editi mng, i often dont re-read my works. i think the best way to describe dotf’s writing style would be to share some snippets under cut

Snippet from chapter 7

Kaon let go and began rummaging through the mass of odds and ends. You refused to peek. It’d ruin the surprise. He pulled at something and a cloud of dust billowed towards you. You watched the stars blink into place through a sheen of sepia.

Wisps of cirrus clouds disappeared entirely as the first constellations of the night appeared. You recognized a few. The North Star, the Big Dipper. All there in view.

Seconds turned to minutes, and you could no longer hear Kaon rifling around through the clusters of objects. Footsteps approached before he was silent once again save for his breathing. Slow and deliberate. You closed your eyes and took in a heaving breath.

It would hurt. You wanted it to. Grisly and broken, a corpse attached to a hip. Eternity awaited, forever you.

Your grandma used to press flowers in her bible.

Metal clattered to the ground and you let out the breath you were holding. Relief and a little bit of disappointment mingled so tightly inside you, your head spun.

Kaon sat in the spot you saved for him, close enough for your shoulders to touch. He cupped your cheek, and gave you a smile for the first time in days.

“I should have killed you when we first met.”

Snippet from chapter 11

Before you were able to relax, because God forbid you relax these days, Vos leaned down and whispered, “Scream.”

You blinked, confusion lacing your brows. With a frustrated exclamation, he grabbed you by the shoulders and shook you until your head slammed against the cot. At this rate, he was gonna shake you stupid. Or stupider.

Whatever. You knew how to be a good pet.

Opening your mouth, you let out a blood curdling shriek. Vos shook you harder and you screamed louder. You thrashed and screamed and gurgled as Vos made wet ripping noises with his mouth- how he managed, like many things, was beyond you.

Eventually you had to stop screaming, throat too raw to even think to continue. You began to babble your final farewell, nonsense about your goats, your dog, and your family, as Vos stopped his attack. He cocked his head to the side and watched as you convulsed, muttering to yourself. You must have looked ridiculous because Vos began cackling, eyes crinkled, before he started to shake you all over again.

Finally, you flopped limply against the mattress. Vos rewarded you with a rough pat on the cheek before he slid onto the floor. You watched as he disappeared under your cot. Whatever he had planned, you hoped it worked. Considering the weaponry at these people’s disposal, you figured you needed a miracle.
