- waiting for the coals. it's a bit dingy today, was surprised to wake up hearing rain. nevermind don't pay much attention to the weather in general but I noticed there's a window for a few hours to grill without getting wet so that's what I'll do.

- yesterday our morning was thrown off plan when our Belgian kiddos asked if we wanted to Skype. Fuck Yeah! So for 3 hours we were in their living room watching chaos in the form of a 13 month old brute called Audrey (after The Audrey) powered by a never stopping motor she crawled, wobbled, fell, cried, grinned, then did it again and again. She's a tough mudder because her older sister, a precocious three year old who speaks half french half English and who Dotie and Pops (us) struggle to understand but raptly listen to as long as she talks to us, treats Audrey like an exasperating toy.

Our grandchildren are being raised by our kids and their spouses (obvious? not at all) and we think they are doing a crackerjack job of it. Crackerjacks off the floor or pulled from the dog's mouth are gross but fine. Fascinating, who knew?

"Dotie" Addi says, I want you to make me a princess dress like Rosie's. Rosie is our two year old granddaughter living about two hours away from us. Rosie is too cool. A fashionista, baby model beautiful with red/orange hair ( call her Cheeto to Dotie's consternation) and she is also being raised in a fashion totally not how her mom was reared by us. She loves mud! We concur. These kids are so happy!

We raised our our son and daughter while living where the Air Force told us to live. This meant our parents weren't around to tell us how to do it. This was during the dark ages, before the internet could tell us everything we needed to know. I would do a bunch of things differently now but I'd never presume to tell our kids how to raise their kids.

So once their sushi delivery arrived, we concluded Skype zoo and drove to New Albany where we had lunch. D dropped me in Jeffersonville to drink while she got what she needed to make Addi a pink princess dress. She started cutting out the pattern last night and has been sewing all morning. She just came down to eat a burger fresh from the grill with bbq sauce burned on, just how she likes it. It's what I can do. She's up there now and will finish the dress today, made to the wishes of a 3 year old and that's Dotie's super power!
