Getting Caught and Catching A Virus
Episode 10:
Captain Yoo doesn’t respond to Dae Young’s radio calls so they head to where they are, but by then Agus and his men have left. Shi Jin summarized what happened. Fatima is a girl that was going to get sold today and she managed to shoot Agus from behind, Mo Yeon was able to remove the bullet and they left but Captain Yoo doubted this would be the last time they would meet. The soldiers help the children to get into the truck and back to the field hospital to get treated.
Once they’re back, Mo Yeon helps the doctors test and treat the infected children. Doctor Sang and Nurse Ha were treating one kid while Mo Yeon looked at the X-rays.
“I see signs of pneumonia,” she told Sang Hyun.
“We’ll take it from here, go wash up,” Sang Hyun told Mo Yeon. she nodded and went to the water basin and started scrubbing her hands. She was so distracted she didn't notice Yoo Ji approaching her.
“Are the children vaccinated?” Yoo Ji asked, her eyes not focusing, but it was subtle. Mo Yeon didn't catch it. Mo Yeon was snapped back to reality when she turned to respond but was taken off guard by the strong smell of alcohol.
“Have you been drinking?” she squinted her eyes at her friend, who in return shrugged.
“A little” Yoo Ji responded, her words slurring together.
“I won’t even ask where you got the booze but why are you drinking now?” Mo Yeon thought Yoo Ji was doing so well staying sober or at least not abusing her alcohol allowance.
“Gwang Nam is being an ass,” Yoo Ji muttered.
“He seems pretty nice to me” Mo Yeon scrubbed her hands harder.
“It's a facade, why do you have blood on your hands?” Yoo Ji slurred, but her gaze didn't falter from Mo Yeon’s hands. Mo Yeon sighed, she didn't know how to explain what happened in the last few hours to her friend.
“I’ll explain later when you’re sober” Mo Yeon chose the easy way out.
“So what happened with First Sergeant Lim?”
“He keeps digging information about the Kim Hoon Jae case” Yoo Ji picked at the loose hem of her shirt.
“He won’t let it go, and I have no idea how to distract him enough that he forgets about it” she huffed.
“You still have the nightmares?” Mo Yeon asked that case affected Yoo Ji the most out of all her work. What she had gone through, changed her so much, sometimes Mo Yeon can barely recognize her friend. Mo Yeon knows the kind of psychological damage that Yoo Ji endured because of her involvement, she recommended multiple psychiatrists to Yoo Ji but she never confirms nor denies whether she actually goes or not. Yoo Ji nodded.
“I think it's good to tell him about it, maybe actually help you feel lighter. Holding it in isn’t going to make anyone feel any better,” Mo Yeon tried to recommend. Mo Yeon wiped her hands on the cloth towel by the sink, Yoo Ji shook her head, her face was red from the alcohol. Mo Yeon’s eyes were drawn to behind Yoo Ji to the moving figure behind them.
“Doctor Kang! The girl you brought with you says that she’s leaving. What should I do?” Nurse Choi’s concerned voice sounded out, her eyes drawn to the drunk girl beside Mo Yeon.
“Are you drunk?” she asked Yoo Ji with surprise, Yoo Ji smiled cheekily and gave her a smile.
“Shhh, don’t tell anybody” she hushed Nurse Choi.
“Take her back to her room and I’ll handle the kid,” Mo Yeon told Min Ji and nodded at Yoo Ji who was dozing off. Min Ji nodded and guided Yoo Ji away from the Medi-Cube.
“I can walk” Yoo Ji shrugged Min Ji’s hand. Halfway through they ran into a few soldiers. Min Ji bowed and excused themselves before Yoo Ji made a fool of herself. Gwang Nam was one of the soldiers they passed. He paused and looked back.
“Yoo Ji?” he asked with uncertainty. Yoo Ji looked drunk, her cheeks red, and her eyes were unfocused
“That’s my name, don’t wear it out” she responded with a goofy chuckle.
Gwang Nam told the soldiers to go ahead and he’ll see them inside. He came closer to the two girls.
“Please don’t tell anyone, if someone knows she might get fired.” Min Ji excused.
“It’s ok, I’ll take her back, you can go back to the Medi-Cube” Gwang Nam smiled at the nurse who nodded and left.
“Aw, everyone is leaving me tonight” Yoo Ji huffed and pouted.
“I haven’t, but you’re pushing me away” Gwang Nam took her shoulders and steadied her as she started swaying.
“And you’re driving me crazy” she responded. Gwang Nam looked at her hard, it was throwing him off how she can be so drunk that she can’t walk properly but can hold a conversation just fine.
“Why won’t you tell me anything about yourself or your work?” Gwang Nam tried again.
“Because it’s not as exciting as I want you to think” Yoo Ji pointed her finger at his nose, her eyes glistening and unfocused.
“Besides, it’s not like you’re telling me anything either” Yoo Ji slurred.
“This is a different situation” Gwang Nam refuted, “you’re a reporter, isn’t everything out for the public?” he continued.
“Indeed, but not my personal psychological problems, I’d like to keep those private” Yoo Ji responded rolling her eyes.
“Just what are you hiding?” Gwang Nam’s curiosity filled him but he couldn’t get more out of Yoo Ji because right after her head hit his shoulder and her soft breathing evened out.
Gwang Nam sighed again, she’s proving to be more work as they get to know each other more. He looked at her face that seemed so peaceful. He wondered if something happened that made her so wary of everyone around her. He reached the bunker and laid her down. He covered her and left her to sleep for the rest of the night. He glanced at the empty whiskey bottle by her bed and put it in the trash, just in case someone decided to look for Yoo Ji in her room.
Gwang Nam made his way to the Medi Cube, at this point he’ll miss the meeting but he’ll talk with Captain Yoo about it later. Gwang Nam was going to find out what happened with Kim Hoon Jae that Yoo Ji is being more resistant to giving information. Well, more than she already is but he knows sometimes she does that to annoy him and remind him that he’s also withholding information about his job too.
He found both First Lieutenant Yoon and Doctor Kang stocking up the cabinets in the Medi-Cube. They were talking about Myung Ju’s trip to the village to treat the remaining kids. It looked like Mo Yeon was ready to leave but halted when she saw Gwang Nam coming to them.
“Power of unity” Gwang Nam saluted Myung Ju and she nodded at him.
“Did you need something?” Doctor Kang asked.
“Uh yes, I was curious about something” Gwang Nam started, turning to Mo Yeon. Mo Yeon raised an eyebrow, she knew he was with Yoo Ji and was bugging her about the Kim Hoon Jae case. She stared at his face and tried to see if he had any ill intentions, she knows Yoo Ji won’t ever tell him about what happened when she was on that case, but that doesn’t mean Mo Yeon won’t tell him the basics. He needs to stop bringing it up and just accept it.
“Yoo Ji was involved in the serial killer case of Kim Hoon Jae, she won’t let me ask about it” he continued looking uncomfortable, “I wanted to know if it had affected her in any way”.
“Mun Yoo Ji was involved in that case?” Myung Ju’s surprised tone told Mo Yeon that she didn't know any of this either.
“It was a very complicated case, he was on the loose and had killed so many girls and the detectives had no idea how to find him, his killings were irregular, he didn't have a pattern or a connection to his victims” Mo Yeon started leaning against the shelf lightly.
“But he was found because of his medical records, right? I heard about it on the news, it was very impressive” Myung Ju commented.
“It was Yoo Ji that was able to tip the police of his location, she looked up his medical records and his file from the police department, she was able to find the exact bar he hung out at because he had Hodgkin's lymphoma-” Mo Yeon was cut off by Gwang Nam.
“And the bar he hung out at was the only one in the area that had two separate bars with virgin drinks, yeah, I know that part but was she ever involved in the arrest or came in contact with him?” Gwang Nam asked but Mo Yeon knew that he would come to realize that Yoo Ji is psychologically hurt from that case.
“I only know some of what happened, not everything but yes, she was involved in the arrest,” she answered.
“Wait, didn't Kim Hoon Jae break out of prison and kidnap someone” Myung Ju’s eyes widened as she started putting the pieces together.
“Yoo Ji’s connection to the major media channels was able to leave her name out of the news, but yeah, she was the one that was kidnapped by him. He had her for two weeks, he psychologically and physically abused her,” Mo Yeon told them. Gwang Nam held his breath, he didn't know it was this serious.
“Her need for information is just something that helps ease her anxiety, because when she was with him, he seemed to know everything about her life, like he was there when it happened, and that broke her. Yoo Ji is not the kind to feel helpless often and this one really did a number” Mo Yeon informed them of the severity. Myung Ju and Gwang Nam made eye contact. With Gwang Nam’s line of work, he may never be able to tell her the entire truth.
“But this need for information is destroying her from the inside out, it’s not healthy and she often has insomnia because her brain is going haywire with so much information, and the nightmares,” Mo Yeon told them.
“I feel like a jerk now because of what I said” Myung Ju sighed.
“You can’t take it back, Yoo Ji will know that I told you and will get pissed off” Mo Yeon informed her.
“She doesn’t want people to know because if they do they might change how they act around her, she doesn’t want to be tiptoed around or get any pity” Mo Yeon explained Yoo Ji’s thought process.
“She’ll know I told you tonight, and she’ll be pissed off. Don’t let it put you off though, it’s her way of testing you” Mo Yeon told Gwang Nam, she picked up her stuff and bid them good night. Gwang Nam sighed and leaned against the wall. Just as he thought things were getting easier.
“Regretting asking about it?” Myung Ju asked him.
“No, but I thought she was messing with me, I didn't think it was something this serious” his tired and defeated voice responded.
“You should’ve known from the moment she kicked the crap out of the thugs at the hospital; she’s not normal, none of us are” Myung Ju finished off, and smiled at him sympathetically, she told him good night and left him alone.

-The Next Morning-
Dae Young and Myung Ju went to the village but they found it completely deserted, so they came back, Mo Yeon and Shi Jin were having a moment *the hair tying* and then the packages from Korea came. At this point in their morning/afternoon, Yoo Ji woke up with a hangover and drank coffee, and moved on with her day, a hangover was not stopping her from doing her usual routine.
She heard the packages had arrived so she went to see if she got anything, she noticed a box with lots of hearts and the names of the Captain and his Deputy leader on it and knew that they were in deep shit. So she hung out near the corner of the room to watch the show.
“Sergeant First Class Seo, there's a package from someone named Shin Ji Young.” Mo Yeon radioed Dae Young, which made Yoo Ji choke on her laugh, Myung Ju should be coming any minute now.
“Where are you now?” his voice was serious yet panicked.
“In the kitchen” Mo Yeon responded. Almost five seconds later, Myung Ju came bursting through the door and grabbed the box from Mo Yeon’s hands.
“Oh! That surprised me.” Mo Yeon squeaked
“I'm going to have to inspect this real quick.” Myung Ju glared at the box. Myung Ju read the messages written on the box, each sentence growing angrier.
“Does Dae Young have a younger sister?” Mo Yeon asked curiously.
“Dae Young is an only child!”
“That shouldn’t be my fault” Mo Yeon defended. Myung Ju huffed and ripped open the package and got out the envelope, it seemed like there was a picture in there because Mo Yeon got closer to Myung Ju to get a closer look and squinted her eyes.
“Omo, why is Shi Jin here?” Yoo Ji silently laughed, looking at those two jealous fools.
“The day we met Shi Jin Oppa. We send our memories to you.” Mo Yeon read out loud.
“First Lieutenant Yoon, bring your gun.” Mo Yeon looked murderous, it made Yoo Ji crinkle her eyes more, just to stop herself from making any noise.
“It’s a misunderstanding” Shi Jin and Dae young came barreling in, probably ran all the way here from where they were.
Yoo Ji watched as they tried to explain the package but failed miserably and were digging themselves into bigger holes. Mo Yeon told Shi Jin to follow her leaving Myung Ju and Dae Young alone. As they left Yoo Ji noticed three people behind the wall and she went over and found Woo Geun, Cheol Ho, and Gwang Nam.
“What are you doing?” she murmured, hiding with them
“I was right. It was obvious it was a blind date.” Gwang Nam broke his stare off with Yoo Ji, well it wasn’t really a stare-off, she avoided his gaze.
“You’re talking about the first birthday party of Bravo Team's Sergeant Park's son? They both disappeared right after they gave their presents” Cheol Ho confirmed.
Woo Geun sighed in annoyance and brought out money to pay the bet that he had with Gwang Nam, Yoo Ji smirked, it seemed like Woo Geun was horrible at making winning bets.
“They said that a high school classmate's father had passed away.” Woo Geun scoffed
“It doesn't even make sense that the two of them would have the same classmate.” Gwang Nam told him, they didn't go to school together. Yoo Ji chuckled
“They couldn't even get their story straight with us either.” Cheol Ho smiled.
“A room full of special forces agents and none of them can lie correctly” Yoo Ji mused, shaking her head. Yoo Ji turned and left them.
“Nurse Choi called Mo Yeon because of an Emergency in the Medi-cube, Yoo Ji made her way there, Sang Hyun and Nurse Ha followed her. Mo Yeon arrived before them.
“The narcotics are gone,” Nurse Choi Min Ji said.
“Who would’ve taken them?” Sang Hyun pondered.
“All the patients are here and nothing else is missing” Nurse Ha stated.
“Not everyone, someone has been missing” Mo Yeon sighed, getting out her radio.
“Has anyone seen Fatima lately?”
“Come on we need to find Shi Jin” Yoo Ji informed Mo Yeon.
Once they found him, they made their way into town, the bar valentine ran might have information.
“How have you been?” Shi Jin greeted Val, Yoo Ji nodded in acknowledgment at the girl.
“You need something,” Val stated, getting straight to the point.
“Information. A red dress, a 15-year-old girl. She's stealing narcotics.” Shi Jin gave her the basic info. Val shook her head, already refusing his request.
“I keep telling you, we sell everything here except women and information” she reiterated.
“Val please, this is urgent and serious.” Yoo Ji pleaded for her to hear them out.
“You don’t have to, but there must be someone else who could” Shi Jin interrupted.
“Please, she’s only 15 years old,” Shi Jin asked again. Val cleared her throat and looked away, she sighed and rang someone up on her phone.
“Where is the black market for narcotics?”
As soon as they got the location, Yoo Ji paid Val the amount she wanted and they were set on their way.
“How do we find it?” Mo Yeon asked once they reached the place, there were a bunch of buildings that looked run down and were on the verge of collapsing. They didn't wait long until they heard a girl scream. They ran over to the sound.
“Son of a bitch! were you lying to me this whole time?” Fatima asked angrily.
“No, Fatima you trusted me too much, now follow me before I beat you harder,” the boy said as he held Fatima by her hair.
“Stop! Don’t touch her” Yoo Ji shouted at the boy.
“Is he a soldier?” one of the boys asked, Yoo Ji sighed.
“Your uniform is always bringing us trouble” she Sighed as she looked at the boys pulling out their weapons.
“Don’t worry, we have more weapons than him,” the leader, Yoo Ji assumed, said.
“I hope you weren’t looking for us” he continued with a smirk on his face as all three of them put their hands up in surrender.
“More guns? Why are there guns every day? What kind of country is this?” Mo Yeon whined as she felt fear penetrate her, Yoo Ji chuckled.
“It's because you both ran in with no plan,” Shi Jin told her.
“If we came later, she might’ve been hurt more” Mo Yeon refuted. Yoo Ji is still making eye contact with the leader.
“Yes, good job because Fatima will be fine while we get shot at” Shi Jin’s sarcastic voice was lowered but Yoo Ji still heard him.
“What are they saying?” one of the goons, asked.
“Who cares? Put your gun down if you don't want to die” the leader told the captain.
“What the hell are we going to do now?” Mo Yeon asked.
“Well, it isn't like there isn't a way” Shi Jin said as he evaluated the situation.
“Seven guns. Mun Yoo Ji takes the right side. I'll take the left side.” he joked, Yoo Ji nodded.
“Don't be scared,” he whispered to Mo Yeon.
“I hope you were serious” Yoo Ji gritted her teeth readying herself to fight with speed she never used to beat the boys with machines that can kill her in twenty seconds.
“Let’s see if you're really made of what you say you are,” Shi Jin said to Yoo Ji with a chuckle.
“Okay, let’s make a deal” Shi Jin moved forward, with his hands still raised in surrender.
“I’ll drop my weapon and you let the girls go”
“What do you mean, you’re gonna drop your weapon and the girls get on their knees now” the boy refuted shaking his gun around. Yoo Ji noticed his loose grip, either from carelessness or from inexperience. Probably only shot it once or twice before today. She surveyed the other boys and found them to be pretty much the same.
“Huh, I thought I could fool him” he paused, “okay, no more jokes when I say now, you run back to the car and wait by the door,” he instructed Mo Yeon.
“Five minutes should do it,” he evaluated once again.
“You’re overestimating my ability to move fast enough to avoid the guns Captain Yoo, make that 10” Yoo Ji added.
“If five minutes pass and we’re not out, just leave no matter what.” he continued, ignoring Yoo Ji’s comment.
“Oh god, Gwang Nam is going to kill me” Shi Jin glanced at Yoo Ji.
“I’ll try to spare you by not getting injured,” Yoo Ji told him.
“What is that bastard saying? Shut up and drop your weapon” the leader said moving towards them and putting his hand to stabilize the gun in his other.
“Okay, okay” Shi Jin muttered.
“I’ll drop it, do you like this spot?” Shi Jin asked with a small smile on his lips.
“I can’t use this gun anyway” Shi Jin continued, the boys can’t understand him still because he was speaking Korean but Yoo Ji understood. He’d had to write a lot of reports.
Yoo Ji realized that he was going to take the leader’s gun and use that instead, so she quickly picked a target and zeroed in on his actions.
Shi Jin waited until the boy was lowered enough and slid his gun backward and jammed the boy’s hand upwards so he couldn't shoot him.
“Now!” Mo Yeon sprung in action and so did Fatima. Yoo Ji quickly grabbed the boy’s hand towards one of the other boys so that he wouldn't shoot, and then kicked him in his stomach so he would double over. She quickly was able to get his gun.
“You think I’ll get arrested if I use the gun” Yoo Ji wondered out loud to Shi Jin.
“Yes!” he yelled back. She huffed and threw the gun far away from their reach. Shi Jin was able to grab another boy’s gun and twisted his elbow so he had no control of his hand and shot in the clutter of boys’ direction but didn’t hit anyone specific mostly to scare them and to make them back off.
Yoo Ji yelped as she heard the gun go off and quickly punch another boy coming at her. She disabled another gun as another smaller boy came at her, the gun in her hand went slamming down on his shoes. He yelled in pain and she looked away and saw Shi Jin do the same.
“Aw man, now you're just stealing my moves,” she called out to him, but she was running out of breath, she breathed hard as a blond boy circled around her, his hands on his gun shaking.
“Do you even know how to shoot that?” Yoo Ji asked him in English, taunting him. He clicked his safety off but didn't get a chance to press the trigger before Yoo Ji hit his knee cap to the side, breaking it. He fell to his knees and she kneed his nose, he dropped the gun and she kicked it toward the other pile of guns.
She held her breath, noticing a boy sneaking towards the direction Fatima ran to take cover in, her call of warning died in her throat as Shi Jin started shooting towards the boys’ shoes making his fall and stay down. She didn't think he was shot, just knocked out. He started walking backward towards Fatima, who didn't run with Mo Yeon to the car as Yoo Ji assumed. Yoo Ji breathed hard.
“Well this was a work out” she tried to slow down her breathing. She started making her way to them when she saw the boys getting up and starting to shoot again, she rolled her eyes and snuck up behind one of them and elbowed the back of his head, knocking him out.
“Why don't you guys stay down” she growled. They pointed their guns between her, Shi Jin, and Fatima.
“Shouldn’t Mo Yeon do something to help us?” Yoo Ji shouted at the Captain.
“I told her to leave if we don’t come out” he yelled back as he ran out of bullets and took cover behind the old truck. He tried to reach for another gun but couldn't get it in time.
“Now what?” Yoo Ji yelled as she kicked another boy away from her and grabbed his gun and pointed at him. Her question went unanswered as she heard a car come screeching towards them, she managed to roll out of the way. She glanced at the car to see it was the military car that they came in and Mo Yeon was driving it now.
She suddenly backtracked the car almost crushing Shi Jin’s hand,
“Hurry, get in!” she told Shi Jin. Yoo Ji who was on the other side of the car from Shi Jin opened the door and jumped inside the front passenger seat while Shi Jin and Fatima got in the back. As they made their way back, Mo Yeon was grinning.
“Wow, awesome! This is totally exciting!” she said laughing. Yoo Ji looked back towards Shi Jin who looked at her disbelief. Yoo Ji and Shi Jin were heaving, trying to catch their breath from fighting a whole gang.
“I'm still excited! Did you become a soldier for this?” Mo Yeon asked the Captain.
“I fought off the enemy!” she yelled in glee.
“You mean you ran over the enemy, we fought off the enemy” Yoo Ji responded with amusement in her voice.
“You almost ran me over too!” Shi Jin told her.
“I knew you would avoid it, it was all calculated” Mo Yeon replied with a grin on her face.
“With calculations like that, how did you make it through medical school?” he grunted in the back. Yoo Ji chuckled.
“She could save people but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t put them in hospitals” Yoo Ji replied jokingly, which Mo Yeon fake glared at her. The car started slowing down and came to a stop.
“What’s wrong with this car?” Mo Yeon asked in confusion.
“Why don’t you know? You beat it up too much, this woman now wrecked three cars” he said Yoo Ji laughed as she got out of the car.
“I'll try to get in contact with anyone nearby.” Shi Jin pulled out his walkie talkie.
“Big Boss transmitting. The location is roughly 15 km from the city towards the barracks. The car is down. If there is any soldier within the radius, contact me.” Captain Yoo said. A second later Dae Young’s voice responded.
“Wolf transmitting. Currently on landmine operation in the direction of Phantom Village.”
“What’s the matter? Why do you always get stuck on roads?” Dae Young’s voice cut through with a bit of an edge.
“No kidding” Shi Jin responded while looking at the car engine.
“I’ll send Sergeant Gong” Dae Young sighed.
“They’re sending Cheol Ho to pick us up,” Shi Jin told the girls. Mo Yeon took Fatima a little farther to scold her while Yoo Ji stayed near the car
They were finally able to make it back to the base and Mo Yeon went to take a shower and Yoo Ji decided that she should do the same, her muscles will start to ache from her vigorous workout. As soon as Yoo Ji got out of the shower the lights went out. She sighed and felt her way back to her room.
-----------------------------------------------
-The Next Morning-
The Alpha team got the news that manager Jin got arrested for identity fraud by the Mohoru Police and then one of the patients told Shi Jin and Dae young that manager Jin has a fistful of diamonds. Shi Jin concluded that he was probably on the run from someone.
*The Alpha team gets all suited up in all black and goes to save the manager but it's a black op so it’s not officially said that they rescued the man. While they are there Shi Jin faces off with Agus one more time. As he is the one that’s been haunting manager Jin down for the diamonds.*
They came back with the man and he was put into the Medi-Cube. Shi Jin was interrogating him. When Manager Jin started coughing and calling for a doctor. It turns out he has internal bleeding from the diamonds.
Yoo Ji sighed as she shook her head trying to shake away the dizziness. Damn it's happening more often now. She felt light-headed and couldn't focus. Gwang Nam came running towards her, he looked so shaken up.
“Doctor Kang and First Lieutenant Yoon” he stated but paused.
“They’re in OR, what’s wrong?” Yoo Ji said, confused.
“Manager Jin has the M virus” Gwang Nam spilled out finally. Yoo Ji’s chair fell as she suddenly stood up.
“What?!” her voice rang through the room.
“They are in isolation in the OR” Gwang Nam informed her. Yoo Ji’s dizziness was forgotten as she booked it towards the Medi-Cube, Gwang Nam following her.
Once she arrived, she found Shi Jin and Dae Young glued to the doors separating the girls from the rest of them. She pushed through the doctors and stood in between the men.
“The U.S. base has a laboratory but I am not sure they will cooperate,” Myung Ju said.
“I'll take care of that,” Shi Jin said as he opened his phone.
“I'll go prepare the transportation,” Dae Young said as he ran out.
“What’s going on?” Yoo Ji’s voice was strong but her eyes wavered, looking at both her friends.
“Manager Jin seems to have the M Virus, we both got contaminated by blood” Myung Ju responded.
“We’ll be ok,” Mo Yoeon assured Yoo Ji.
Yoo Ji started swaying slightly, the rush of adrenaline had left her body and all she felt now was exhaustion, days of not sleeping, and not getting any rest was taking its toll on her. Her swaying got more noticeable and Mo Yeon gasp alerted everyone that's wasn’t aware, as Yoo Ji almost hit the floor. Gwang Nam swooped in and supported Yoo Ji holding onto her waist. Shi Jin looked at Yoo Ji with complete shock.
“What is wrong with her?” Gwang Nam asked.
“She needs an IV and dextrose solution, she needs rest” Mo Yeon instructed one of the nurses. This wasn’t the first time this happened, but it put everyone on edge, the circumstances were horrible.
“Overexertion and insomnia, she’ll be fine.” Mo Yeon explained, “we’ll be fine” Myung Ju looked at Mo Yeon with concern for Yoo Ji while she was also anxious about their own situation. Gwang Nam settled Yoo Ji on one of the beds.
Captain Yoo and Deputy Leader Seo came back, Gwang Nam saw both of them march to the OR. Gwang Nam peaked at the situation, Dae Young hugged Myung Ju tightly and wouldn’t let go. Gwang Nam figured that she’s probably the one that got it. He looked back at Yoo Ji, she was sleeping peacefully, but once she wakes up, he’ll have to tell her.

Episode 5:
*Doctor Daniel comes back to Urk to his wife Ye Hwa* *part of the medical team goes to visit the solar plantation* *they go look for the missing kid* *they go to the restaurant*
Yoo Ji didn't know what she was going to do, but she knew she had to get out of the base. She went to the city. She planned to just walk around and check in on her usual sources, they most likely won’t have updated but it won’t hurt to try
As she left the solar energy plant she made her way back to the inner city and into a convenience store to grab a snack. She picked out her food and went to pay for it when she noticed a face that was familiar to her. She realized that he was the fake UN guy. He was holding a beer in his hand and talking to another guy. Her attention was brought back to the cashier, she took her stuff and walked out but stayed hidden from the two men. She watched as they interacted, she had hoped she wasn’t right when she said the cops were cheap, she’s proven wrong. She stayed there to watch them, maybe even tail them since she had nowhere to be.
She unscrewed her bottled water and took a sip, she almost spat it out when she saw Shi Jin come out from the restaurant a couple of feet away from the men, Mo Yeon behind him. He noticed them, his disbelief clear on his face, Yoo Ji wanted to laugh if this wasn’t just a horrible situation.
She decided that she might need to intervene so she crept up closer to hear their conversation. She couldn't get too close or she would risk getting caught.
“ Can you find the hardware store that we went to the last time? ”
“ You made sure I know, around the corner, across the street ”
Shi Jin nodded and watched her go, once she was out of sight, he got out the gun he kept with him, Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, of course, he would use the most extreme choice. Yoo Ji contemplated going over there and confronting the boys with him, but she held back, she probably will need to use the element of surprise later.
Shi Jin pointed his gun at them, Yoo Ji couldn't see their expressions as they turned their backs towards her.
“ I think we’ve met before ”
“ You don't seem very surprised, how is a peacekeeper threatening an unarmed civilian with a gun? ” the white man said.
Yoo Ji mentally snorted, unarmed? Both men had pistols on them. It seems like Shi Jin noticed too. He unhinged his jaw and raised his eyebrow slightly. He cocked his gun towards the man before aiming at the car next to them and shooting the tire.
“ You're not a civilian, and you're not unarmed ”, Shi Jin responded. Yoo Ji’s ears are still ringing from the echo of the gunshot. Both men drew out their weapons.
“ I know you have connections with the cops, why do you keep showing up near me? ”
It seems that the gunshot alerted their men inside as five men came out, four equally armed, while the last wasn't, he was wearing a black suit and sunglasses shielding his face. Yoo Ji’s eyes darted to Shi Jin, he was outnumbered. She halted and it seemed like Shi Jin recognized this man, Yoo Ji couldn't place her finger on it but she feels like she’s met him before too. He said something before aiming a gun at one of his men before giving it back to the man.
“ Long time no see, Lieutenant, ” he said to Shi Jin, Yoo Ji was shocked, they knew each other? From the military? The man took off his shades, and everything clicked. Yoo Ji was staring at Agus, a captain who went rogue and dealt weapons for a higher price, consumed by greed.
“ Captain Agus? Why are you… ” Shi Jin trailed off looking hurt and confused.
“ Changed jobs as you can see, now I can grow my hair out, luckily the jobs are pretty much the same, shooting guns and making money ” Yoo Ji scoffed, if they were not armed, she would've loved kicking his teeth in. it seemed like things were getting heated so she might as well make an entrance.
“ What happened to you? Your call sign is still legendary in the Delta Force ”
“ Being a legend doesn't pay ” he shrugged, Yoo Ji made her appearance then she walked up the staircase that she was hiding behind and stopped right next to Shi Jin, who was surprised as much as the other men.
“I guess being a legend doesn't stop you from becoming a greedy motherfucker either?” she said, immediately the guys in the back raised their weapons.
“I wouldn't, I am an unarmed civilian and that would be a violation even the police can't be bribed into letting go.” She tsked at their defensiveness.
“What are you doing here?” Shi Jin gritted his teeth.
“I was having a stroll” she rolled her eyes.
“I see you that he hasn’t killed you yet” Agus responded to her insult, glaring at her.
“Long time no see Argus” she winked, he glared even harder. Her heartbeat faster at the thought of the person he was talking about, she didn't even want to think about how he knew about that.
“It's Agus” he growled out.
“Same difference.” she shrugged. The boys in the back still not lowering their guns, she cocked an eyebrow at them then turned to Agus. she was feeling her confidence seep through her again when Shi Jin didn’t push it and instead looked in between them with confusion
“Tell your boys to put ’em down, if you haven't forgotten I have high ranking connections, and they’re more influential than any sum you can give to the cops” she threatened with ease, this wasn't her first run-in with these boys, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.
“One day, Mun, you won't be able to see the light of day” he glowered.
“Certainly today is not the day, I wanna go out with a big bang, preferably not with that cheap-ass gun” she retorted. Shi Jin was just standing there frozen in shock. How is it whenever something happens she’s always around to provoke it.
“How's your nose?” she asked the white guy that faked his injuries in the car accident. He growled at her, she smiled sweetly at him.
“Listen here, Captain ” Agus started halting her attempt at conversation, he looked at her with a pointed glare.
“ There are many gangs in this neighborhood, and they have no fear, no rules and no honor ” he scoffed pausing, “ They got no country to serve ”
“ This is your last warning, mind your own business ” he warned him, Yoo Ji rolled her eyes. It didn't go unnoticed by Agus but he chose to let it go.
“ Even back then and now, you’re far too empathetic. ”
“ I guess so ” Shi Jin answered in Korean, so far the conversation was in English, but now only Yoo Ji can understand what he's saying.
“ I interfered with God's will unnecessarily. Someone on the verge of death must have had a reason to be. ”
“ Do you hide behind your language? ”
“ For god’s sake, piss off, don’t come near me, or else you’ll have to pay the price ”
“Bye Argus, see you again next time” Yoo Ji waved as she left with Shi Jin, he was a ball full of emotions. She didn't want to say anything to provoke him but he seemed like he had other plans.
“What were you thinking? involving yourself in our conversation? Why do you keep on risking your life? To prove a point?” he scolded.
“Captain Yoo, I can handle myself,” she responded icily. He shook his head.
“Does Gwang Nam know that you're in town?” he asked her.
“He is not my babysitter” she snapped at him, seriously what's up with this guy.
“I am calling him to pick you up” Shi Jin stated, but before he can even dial his number he got a phone call. It was from Mo Yeon. All he heard was a big honk and a bunch of ruckuses, he looked up and made eye contact with Yoo Ji, that didn't sound very good.
“ Hello? Hello? ”
“ Captain Yoo? ” her voice came through the speaker, she sounded shaken up.
“ You listened to me well. I heard you borrowed the car. Where are you? I finished my work and I'm about to leave .” Shi Jin replied looking at Yoo Ji, trying to communicate with his eyes. Something happened, she nodded and got out her phone.
“ Please save me! Please save me! ” she yelled out with terror. That snapped everyone into action.
“Go! go! I’ll call Gwang Nam to pick me up!” she ushered him towards his car. She looked around one more time, she caught a glimpse of one of Agus’s men lingering around, but he ducked once she fully turned around. She shook her head, she’ll pick a fight another day. Right now she has to figure out a way to get to the base without asking Gwang Nam to pick her up.
She thought it would be ironic that she was in town to avoid him and then end up asking him to come to get her. She decided the best way was just to go to the hardware store Ye Hwa ran and ask for a car. Once she was able to get that sorted, she arrived on the base, she managed to get through halfway without running into anyone.
“Where have you been all day?” Woo Geun asked with a smug tug on his lips.
“Around” she cryptically responded, usually he doesn’t really care where she is, it seems like someone was trying to find her.
“Answer it clearly Mun Yoo Ji, we’re not playing games,” Woo Geun said with a serious tone.
“Why did something happen?” she asked curiously, killing her.
“Piccolo was looking for you,” Cheol Ho told her as he walked up to them.
“Huh, who is that?” Yoo Ji frowned in confusion.
“Gwang Nam” Woo Geun answered.
“What? Where?” Yoo Ji panicked and looked around, when she realized that he was responding to her question instead of calling him out as if he was there, she looked like a deer caught in headlights. She mentally slapped her forehead, she just outed herself, great.
“Did something happen between you two?” Cheol Ho asked. Curiosity nipping at his sides.
“No, why would you say that?” She avoided eye contact.
“I don't know maybe cuz you were hiding all day and didn't cause any trouble,” Woo Geun said
“How do you know for sure she didn't cause trouble?” another voice butted in, it was Shi Jin.
“Is Mo Yeon ok?” she immediately asked, he nodded in confirmation.
“She was hanging from a cliff,” Shi Jin’s exasperated voice explained. Yoo Ji’s eyebrows went up, how does Mo Yeon manage to put herself in situations like this.
“I better go check on her” she tried to escape their little group.
“Wait wait, what happened between you and Gwang Nam that you didn't call him to pick you up?” Shi Jin interrogated. Yoo Ji cursed under her breath.
“How did you know?”
“Doctor Daniel’s car is right there,” he pointed out.
“Well, nothing really just-”
“What are you guys talking about?” a new voice cut in, and that made Yoo Ji curse even more profusely. It was Gwang Nam. if only she had made her escape earlier.
“I really have to go check on Mo Yeon, excuse me,” she shouldered through the men and came head to head (well, head to chest more accurately) with Gwang Nam.
“Where have you been all day?”
“Just...here and there” she awkwardly laughed.
“She was in town, she almost got herself shot,” Shi Jin elaborated. Yoo Ji turned around and glared at him.
“I did not”
“Are you ok? Are you hurt anywhere?” he started fussing over her. Shi Jin smiles cheekily and goes to get changed, he is dripping wet. Cheol Ho and Woo Geun left with him.
“I gotta go” Yoo Ji excused once more and tried to make her getaway. Thankfully she was able to escape.
“Mo Yeon, are you okay? I heard you got into an accident” Yoo Ji went to check on her friend. Mo Yeon had already changed and was just sitting there sitting in silence gazing at nothing. Yoo Ji guessed she was pretty shaken up from the events.
“I am fine”
She sat down next to her to try and comfort her when Shi Jin came in with two cups full of steaming liquids. Yoo Ji was sure they wanted to be alone, so she moved to stand up.
“I’ll check on you later, I have stuff to tell you” she smiled at the girl.
“That stuff would include my First Sergeant Lim, right?” he joked, Yoo Ji’s cheeks flushed but she shook her head.
“Focus on your own drama, Captain” she commented.
She made her way back to her own tent but even then it had gotten dark, and she was lost in her thoughts.
-in the next morning, she went to return the car to Daniel, but Mo Yeon and Shi Jin were there too-
“Good morning,” she greeted Shi Jin as they walked up to the store.
“Why are you guys here again?” Yoo Ji asked.
“Daniel’s car is getting towed in, we’re here to...assess the damage” he chose his words carefully, as Mo Yeon narrowed her eyes at him.
“ Why couldn't you just save me without putting the car in the water? ” she paused, shaking her head.
“ No. You saved me, but I'm just complaining. Sorry. ” she shook her head, Yoo Ji chuckled, she went inside to turn in the keys to Ye Hwa.
When she came out she saw the front door and the bumper on the floor with Doctor Daniel on the floor looking heartbroken, she couldn't help but let out a laugh.
After Daniel finished his business with the towing truck he went inside to get the things Shi Jin asked for. Yoo Ji was still there since her ride would be Shi Jin. Apparently Shi Jin ordered a bunch of walkie talkies since he wants to take precautions after yesterday’s events.
“They're more convenient anyways.”
After that they made their way back to base, Shi Jin explained how to use the two-way radios, well he at least tried before Yoo Ji told him she knows how to use them because she’s used them before.
“You might want to explain to Mo Yeon, she’s never used one before” she winked.
“Just tell me what station is yours and the medical’s?”
“Station 3 and 7,” he gave a half-smile before Yoo Ji saluted at him and left.
*Myung Ju and Mo Yeon meet* *Shi Jin and Myung Ju have their conversation while Mo Yeon tries to listen to it from outside*
*the meeting in the Medi-cube*
“ The on-call duty for tonight will be Doctor Ha and-- ” Mo Yeon was interrupted.
“ Is there anyone who will do it instead of me? ” Doctor Song asked, putting up his hand.
“ If there isn't, then I will do it. ” he nodded looking satisfied, the room broke out in chuckled.
“Oh! Why are you guys here?” Yoo Ji asked in surprise when she walked into the common room. Mo Yeon pointed up, towards the fan. Yoo Ji nodded and smiled.
“ This is Cube B. Pretty One, respond. Over. ” a voice came through the radio. Mo Yeon smiled.
“ This is unexpectedly pretty fun. Pretty One is here. Over. ” Mo Yeon responded.
“ What is today's lunch menu? Over. ” the voice asked.
“ I'll check and let you know. Over. ”
“ I'll tell you the lunch menu, so Pretty One, ” Shi Jin responded from behind Mo Yeon, she dropped the walkie talkie.
“ let's talk for a second. Over. ”
“ Pretty One, work hard. ” Everyone started to excuse themselves from the table, Yoo Ji was the last, as she got her snack, she smirked at Mo Yeon.
“Work hard.”
“ This is Handsome Spaceman, headquarters respond! ” Chi Hoon said with a fake breathless tone.
“ This is Firefly what’s up? This is Headquarters. What is the situation? ” Yoo Ji said with a small smile on her face.
“ It's not looking good. ” he paused while thinking of something, “ Liquid salonpas! We're short on liquid salonpas! ”
“ Calm down. Hold on for a bit longer. ” Doctor Song came through with them in his hand.
“ Clear ” Nurse Ha slapped Doctor Song’s back.
Later on, they made a small gathering for Shi Jin’s departure, Yoo Ji figured that he would tell her sometime before he leaves. It seems like Mo Yeon didn't know yet.

Episode 1:
The knife fight between the North Korean man and Shi Jin happened, and Shi Jin got injured, they go back to South Korea and hang out in the arcade where they help catch a thief and then they go to the cafe, Dae Young soon realizes that his phone is missing and they head to the hospital, they are accompanied by Gwang Nam as he was with them at the cafe.
Mo Yeon receives the thief and compliments the person that gave the medical treatment. Her colleagues around her.
“Make sure to make his treatment as painful as possible” Mo Yeon read off his arm.
“Easy” Nurse Ha Ja Ae muttered as she pressed against his sprained ankle, he grunted.
“His guardian just called, I think they’re on their way” Choi Min Ji informed Mo Yeon, handing her the phone.
The patient/thief tries to run away except he runs into Yoo Ji, she was in the lobby, and he looked rattled, and paranoid, she stopped.
“Where are you going?”
“Who are you, lady!?”
“Are you stealing medical equipment?” she narrowed her eyes.
“Mind your own business” he snapped and walked out of the hospital. She squinted her eyes, as she saw a group of guys following where he was going. She shook her head and followed them.
She reached the underground parking to the side, she hid behind a wall, watching what was about to happen, first, they started beating up the thief, then his friend when he tried to help him out. She moved to go help him out but she stopped when she saw three men coming towards the crowd. One was very tall, while his two other friends were a little bit shorter than him. He looked very serious, while his friend smiled at the other short man. And started yelling.
“Everyone! Stop what you're doing!” his shout halted their actions. They looked at the loud one in disbelief, their leader scoffed.
“Just pass by if you know what’s best for you,” he told them with a senile smile.
The three men smiled and kept walking towards them. The silent man walked up to the injured thief and the boy held onto his pant leg and begged for his help.
The man asked him why he was getting beaten up, the man nodded and told them that he was his brother. Of course, the gang didn't believe him. And the friend that was getting hit explained that the boy; Ki Bum needed to pay the fee of leaving their gang. Dae young nodded and asked how much that was. The gang leader scoffed, Dae young solemnly nodded and pulled out his wallet.
Yoo Ji couldn't believe he was really going to give them the money. She was just about to move when she heard the man say, “if you can get the wallet from me, I’ll give you the money” he informed them.
“If it’s an empty wallet, you’re dead,” one of them said. At that moment two of them got out knives. Yoo Ji realized that these 3 men were like no other, the man with the wallet didn't even back away, his two friends took a defensive stance but backed away, as if knowing that this isn’t their fight, yet.
Dae young beat two boys with his wallet, quite easily, almost like he wasn't even trying. As they dropped their knives. Shi Jin bent down and picked up one of the fallen knives and inspected it. Making the rookie mistake of telling everyone to get out their knives. Dae young and Gwang Nam rolled their eyes as Shi Jin looked taken aback when all of them pulled out their knives.
“I am still learning,” he joked. Gwang Nam smiled and took a defensive stance ready to strike.
Yoo Ji realized what was so different about them, they were just thugs, they looked professionally trained, she guessed by their attitude and the way they stood that they’re probably from the military.
As they fought, she noticed that the thief whom she now knows is Ki Bum and his friends were still injured. She also saw one of the thugs charging at the tallest one of the military men. She quickly intercepted his blow and hit his throat, making him choke and fall to the ground. As they noticed her presence the rest of the thugs tried to fight her, but she was fast. She quickly took care of the gangsters and hurried towards the injured two.
“Come on! let's get you back to the hospital” she informed Ki Bum, he grunted. The other boy helped her prop the boy and took him up.
A few minutes later the three men accompanied them and took the boy from her arms.
“You were impressive back there” she complimented, eyeing the three men.
“So were you, who are you again?” the loud man asked.
“Just a good Samaritan” she excused.
“Well I am Shi Jin, this is Dae Young and last that’s Gwang Nam” he introduced. The men didn't acknowledge her as they were holding onto a barely conscious teenager. But Gwang Nam gave her a small smile.
They rushed back to the emergency room, Yoo Ji was about to leave them in the lobby to get back to her stuff, but someone in a military uniform caught her eye, she realized that it was Myung Ju, a military surgeon who did her residency in Haesung Hospital, they were acquaintances, since Yoo Ji spends most of her time at the hospital. She walked up to the girl.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” Yoo Ji asked Myung Ju, breaking her out of her daze.
“Oh my god, you still hang out around here?” Myung Ju broke eye contact with Dae Young. Yoo Ji noticed how tense both Myung Ju and Dae Young were. She shrugged it off and guessed that they knew each other. The three men walked away, and nurses Ha and Choi met them halfway, taking the patient and laying him down.
“Yeah, the biggest scoops are always hiding in the upper levels of this hospital” Yoo Ji jokes. Yoo Ji wasn’t a doctor, she was a journalist with a creative writing passion, but her work led her to come here often thus her hanging out around the hospital was for her information of VIP’s and other stories because of their amazing doctors and emergency team. She was a pretty involved person, she volunteered in other countries and wrote the best stories. Although she does cover some pretty serious worldwide topics, she had gotten on her boss’s bad side lately so he sent her to get information about the VIPs.
“You haven't changed one bit from the last time I saw you” Myung Ju smiled, Yoo Ji realized that she did so out of politeness, Myung Ju looked like she was in a hurry.
“Alright, I won’t hold you up anymore, I am sure you're busy,” Yoo Ji said, Myung Ju nodded and excused herself.
Yoo Ji went to check on the progress of Ki Bum getting treated. Instead what she found was much more amusing. Mo Yeon was being relentless in her accusations of Shi Jin and Gwang Nam, assaulting the poor boy.
“Mo Yeon, give it a rest, they didn't beat him up, he’s involved with this gang and they beat him up for wanting to leave” Yoo Ji interrupted as Mo Yeon threatened to call the police.
“Yoo Ji, you’re here again, and why should I believe you?” she questioned.
“I was there, I even got a few punches in” Yoo Ji smiled and winked at the doctor, who couldn't help but chuckle.
“Right because I’ll believe the creative journalist that loves to exaggerate her stories” Mo Yeon playfully jabbed but Yoo Ji knew that Mo Yeon doesn’t believe her.
“I am not, check the CCTV” Yoo Ji suggested. Mo Yeon nodded and started walking towards the security’s office when Shi Jin caught up with her. Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, she can tell he had taken a liking to her, although Yoo Ji didn't understand why as Mo Yeon was trying to call the police on him.
Yoo Ji didn't follow them out as she knew that Mo Yeon is hard-headed and nothing she says will change her mind, but as she turned around she found the tall man, Gwang Nam staring at her. Yoo Ji’s cheeks flared red, she couldn't help but admit that he was handsome.
She pivoted around and followed her doctor’s friend to the CCTV room. She already knows the way as she’s been there a lot. As soon as she arrived she found Mo Yeon reacting extremely to the footage.
“Oh my gosh!” she blinked rapidly and was entranced by the screen. Yoo Ji chuckled, catching Shi Jin’s attention for a second, his equally amused face acknowledged her.
“Just like that!” Mo Yeon squealed as she saw Shi Jin hit two of the boys in the same time. She then pointed at him and back to the screen. Then came the part where Yoo Ji came in and Mo Yeon’s wide eyes soon caught Yoo Ji’s.
“Omo, I am friends with such a cool person!” she gleefully said. Yoo Ji laughed as she saw her friend’s excited face.
“Your awesome friend has to leave because she has to go report for work, but next time doesn’t accuse me of exaggerating, I can make your murder look like an accident!” Yoo Ji called out with a chuckled waving bye to her friend. Shi Jin raised an eyebrow at her strange farewell.
They leave together and Mo Yeon finds out that Shi Jin is injured. She helps patch him up as well as flirt.
Back at the base, the Alpha team gathered in their room and were fooling around. Gwang Nam was dressing up the two plush bears that Shi Jin and Dae Young brought back from the arcade. Dae Young just came back from his run, to a sight. Shi Jin was putting up two identical uniforms against his body.
“Deputy Team Leader, which one should I wear?”
“Where are you going dressed so prettily?” Dae Young’s sarcastic tone made Shi Jin frown at him with a fake pout.
“I am going to Haesung the day after tomorrow to get my wound cleaned,” he told him.
“The medical corp is right here but he insists on traveling an hour and a half to get his wound treated,” Woo Geun explained to Dae Young.
“Haesung has the best medical team and my body needs to be healthy in order to defend the motherland!” Shi Jin voiced out his reasoning.
“The doctor is pretty” Dae Young and Gwang Nam stated at the same time, making Woo Geun and Cheol Ho burst out in laughter.
“There are no pretty doctors in the medical corps” Shi Jin excused.
“Yes, there is” Dae Young refuted.
“Oh! I know who you’re talking about! Its First Lieutenant Yoon Myung Ju, right?” Cheol Ho said excitedly. Gwang Nam and Woo Geun looked at each other worriedly.
“But I heard that she was dumped harshly by the guy she was dating” Cheol Ho kept on going, “whoever the guy is I want to see his face” he was caught off by Gwang Nam and Woo Eun when they put up the mirror Cheol Ho was holding, in front of his face, to stop him from saying any more. Shi Jin communicated with Dae Young with his eyes, ‘if you just continued dating her instead of running away, he wouldn’t be in this position’, Dae Young narrowed his eyes at his friend.
Shi Jin goes to his date and Dae Young accompanies him to pay the hospital fees for Ki Bum, he doesn’t get to see Mo Yeon as she was in the operating room all day, she calls him and they reschedule but they don’t go as he has to leave because he has a mission in Afghanistan.

There Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked
Episode 11:
*Since Dae Young and Shi Jin know who's the confirmed case, Dae Young has a moment with Myung Ju. Dae Young was put in quarantine by himself, while Myung Ju did the same.*
Yoo Ji woke up, she hadn’t had a good night's sleep for so long, she forgot how it felt. Everything that happened a few hours ago came rushing into her brain. She groaned and tried to sit up. Gwang Nam who just came into the room saw her trying to sit up and rushed to help her.
“Slow down,” he told her,
“But Mo Yeon and Myung Ju-” she stopped when she saw Mo Yeon come into her room.
“I am fine, Myung Ju is quarantined with Manager Jin to check on his recovery,” she informed her.
“She has it?” Yoo Ji asked, her voice was hoarse.
“She’ll be fine, she has a good immune system” Mo Yeon assured while looking at her vitals.
“Have you been taking your medicine?” Yoo Ji avoided her eyes, she didn't take it anymore.
“Why are you here? You need to go take care of Myung Ju. I am fine,” Yoo Ji told her.
“I can't do anything at this point, but hope for the best” Mo Yeon replied looking at Yoo Ji with a hard stare.
“What about Dae Y-” Yoo Ji’s question was caught off by Mo Yeon.
“Can you stop worrying about other people and start taking care of yourself? You can't keep on fainting everywhere like this!” Mo Yeon scolded her.
“I was getting better, so I stopped taking them” Yoo Ji stated, she understood that Mo Yeon was concerned, and was under the pressure right now.
“Are you having nightmares still?” Gwang Nam broke the silence they were in. Yoo Ji found Mo Yeon’s eyes. Mo Yeon told him, she realized. Yoo Ji sighed, this was something personal.
“Yes, but how do you know about that” Yoo Ji ended up saying instead of yelling in anger. She released a breath to calm her heartbeat down. It didn't really help that she was hooked up to a monitor that was beating crazily next to her.
“Actually never mind, Mo Yeon told you but that doesn't mean you had any right to dig into my past” she calmly said, even if she didn't feel calm.
“But I understand, but I can't deal with this right now” Yoo Ji finished, taking out the IV and trying to leave the room.
“Look, I am sorry, I know I overstepped a line, but I was concerned and I didn't know what else to do.” Gwang Nam’s exasperated voice told her from behind. He held onto one of her hands.
“I just need to be alone right now.” Yoo Ji insisted softly. She went back to her room. She took a deep breath and let it out. Yoo Ji went to change and take a shower since she was still in her clothes and they were sticky with her sweat. When she’s done with her shower, she goes to the common room to get something to eat.
Mo Yeon had gathered the kids to give them their medicines and vaccinations, Fatima was there to translate what she said. A few minutes later, the lights give out and they are covered in darkness. Yoo Ji’s eyes found Mo Yeon’s in the darkness and she dropped what she had in her hands and went running to the ICU. Manager Jin was hooked up to a respiratory machine and if the electricity went out he’ll suffocate. Mo Yeon soon remembered and went to check too.
Yoo Ji arrived to find Woo Geun standing by the door holding a flashlight, looking in. Yoo Ji peered inside and found Chi Hoon on top of Manager Jin, holding him still while he was having a seizure.
“I am coming in,” Yoo Ji told Woo Geun, who held onto her arm.
“They told me not to, we need to fix the electricity first” he informed her. She relaxed and nodded. Mo Yeon arrived and started putting on the protective gear and went inside immediately. Yoo Ji’s eyes wandered inside, Chi Hoon was performing CPR.
“The fuse went out we need to reignite it,” Woo Geun told Yoo Ji who was trying to not focus on the yelling inside of the room.
“Have you tried to turn off the main power and turn it on again?” Yoo Ji asked.
“Yes, it didn't do anything” he responded. Yoo Ji took a look at the panel and found that some wires were not fully connected which is what caused the fuse to be blown.
“Do you have gloves?” Yoo Ji asked. He nodded and handed her some heavy-duty gloves. She put them on and grabbed the blue wire and tightened its connection with the yellow wire. She looked at the panel one more time and flipped the switch off and then on. The light was back up.
After the patient was stable, Mo Yeon started doing the tests on Chi Hoon and getting a sample of his blood, they would have to send it to the U.S. military for testing. Yoo Ji got up from the floor and took off the gloves.
“Where did you learn to fix lights?” Woo Geun asked curiously.
“I read powerhouse manuals in my spare time” she sarcastically said.
“If the off/on thing doesn't work, usually that means that something is loose,” she told him as she threw the gloves back to him and walked out.
She was still hungry but it seems like every time she is going to get food something happens. Some of the doctors set up their work in the common room and were vaccinating people. Yoo Ji went by the fridge to pick up her bread. When a commotion happened, and she found multiple men coming in, and behind them Agus. he smiled cynically at her when he noticed her. Fatima gasped and started running when Mo Yeon came and stood in between them. Woo Geun was right behind the doctor and started murmuring into his radio.
“Long time no see, Mun” Agus addressed Yoo Ji.
“I would say it’s a pleasure but I’d be lying” Yoo Ji gritted out.
His eyes flickered to Fatima for a split second and he clenched his jaw and his hand felt his stomach. Yoo Ji tilted her head, that’s where Fatima shot him. The ghost of the bullet will always be there.
Agus started moving forward closer to Mo Yeon and Fatima, when Yoo Ji finally noticed Gwang Nam behind him, looking uneasy. He made eye contact with Yoo Ji and warned her to not make any rash decisions. His eyes lowered to one of the men and Yoo Ji’s eyes followed; they were armed.
Shi Jin and Dae Young burst through the door and approached the scene. Shi Jin stood between Agus and Mo Yeon.
“It’s good to see familiar faces,” Agus started, “Former comrade, my lifesaver, and my little red rose” he addressed Shi Jin, Mo Yeon, and Fatima.
“Do you think he's come to be tested for the M3 virus?” Mo Yeon asked Shi Jin in Korean.
“Virus? We already tested negative. Apparently the U.S. military loves me more than when I was the Delta Force Captain,” David Agus responded to what he thought the doctor asked, he was right but that didn't make him less of an asshole.
“Watch your mouth” Shi Jin growled out. Agus put up his hands and shook his head.
“Okay, we can catch up next time, I am here to visit my Korean friend; Mr. Jin” Agus took a seat and relaxed.
“Your friends aren’t welcome here, so...get lost” Shi Jin told him. Yoo Ji wanted to applaud, but instead, she mentally scoffed, she didn't think Agus and his men would leave without what they came here for.
“Well, I can catch up with him another time, but I heard my stuff is here,” Agus said with casualness, Yoo Ji didn't understand if it was from stupidity or ego. Yoo Ji raised her eyebrows, Agus wasn't the type to give up easily, what the hell is he planning.
“Can I see that instead?” Agus grinned.
“I will give you 10 seconds to get out of my face” Shi Jin paused.
“10, 9-” Agus shook his head and put his hand in his pocket, immediately the Alpha team pulled out their weapons and aimed at Agus and his men. Gwang Nam moved and got closer to Agus. his eyes never flickering anywhere else but on his target. Yoo Ji watched him. The doctors who were still vaccinating halted and stared as the situation quickly rose. This isn’t the first time Alpha team has raised their arms in the face of threat.
Agus slowly pulled out his hand from his coat, revealing two glass bottles.
“You son of a bitch!” Yoo Ji exclaimed. He looked back at her.
“Ah, so you know what this is” he responded, ignoring her insult, he clicked the glasses together. Mo Yeon squinted and realized what the bottles were.
“It's an immunoglobulin.”
“This is for you, I couldn't come empty-handed. Please bring him back, I have a lot to say to him” he looked at Mo Yeon.
He looked around, “looks like everyone is busy, so we shall go,” he smirked and started backing up and moving towards the exit. Gwang Nam and Cheol Ho walked backward still their weapons raised and escorted them out.
“He seems to have known about the US. Military plans” Dae Young stated.
“As well as our strategy” Shi Jin added, Shi Jin sighed and turned to look at Dae Young with an uneasy look.
“Strengthen the security around the barracks” Shi Jin instructed him.
Nurse Ha and Mo Yeon had a conversation but it was too quiet for Yoo Ji to hear, her eyes wandered to Gwang Nam and found him already staring at her. She stared right back. She wasn't pissed off, but she was mad that he didn't respect her privacy. But then again it's not like she doesn't try to dig up his information too. Yoo Ji mentally groaned and broke eye contact, she was being a hypocrite, but she didn't want his pity. She left the scene and went somewhere else to eat her sandwich in peace.
A few hours later she saw the local police arrive on base, she walked closer before pulling one of the soldiers,
“Where is captain Yoo?” she asked.
“Alpha team went to retrieve the medicine,” he responded.
Yoo Ji looked at the car again and found the leader of the gang that they beat up sitting there, smiling. The police work for whoever pays the most. Yoo Ji scowled and started making her way to the car.
They were dragging Fatima to the car when Mo Yeon came out and was talking them out of taking the girl. The gang leader came out of the car and whispered to the policeman. Then she watched as both Mo Yeon and Fatima got in the car. Yoo Ji shook her head and looked for one of the cars on base to follow them. She quickly got in a jeep and sped behind them, making sure to stay a distance behind them to not alert the police. She thanked god it wasn't one of the marked military cars and was a solid green. She quickly sent a text to Cheol Ho telling him that she’s following the car that took Mo Yeon. She hoped he would see it soon.
-The next morning-
*Shi Jin and Dae Young stayed with Myung Ju the whole night making sure she was okay after the medicine was administered. Shi Jin noticed that Mo Yeon was gone and went to ask Min Ji about it when she told him that Mo Yeon left with the police because they wanted to arrest Fatima.*
Right at that moment, Shi Jin’s radio went off with Cheol Ho’s panicked voice.
“Doctor Kang Mo Yeon has been taken by the police, and Mun Yoo Ji is tailing them, she sent me a text message last night but I didn't see it until now”
Shi Jin went to grab one of the cars, when Gwang Nam came out, looking panicked.
“One of the cars is gone, Yoo Ji has it but she’s not armed,” he told his Captain.
“I’ll find them, don’t worry” Shi Jin nodded assuringly to Gwang Nam.
Shi Jin was gone for four hours, when he came back he looked extremely angry, and unstable. He radioed Dae Young to Check on Myung Ju.
“I think the medicine is working” Dae Young responded.
“That’s a relief”
“Were you able to find Yoo Ji?” Dae Young asked him to be briefed on the situation. He didn't know whether to laugh or yell at her actions.
“No,” Shi Jin told him, looking away. Yoo Ji was caught and was probably hidden somewhere in Agus’s safe house, along with Mo Yeon. he couldn't tell anyone.
“I’ll be going out for a bit, I won't be able to come to see you before I go, though,” Shi Jin told Dae Young
“Are you going somewhere- Myung Ju is waking up, I’ll call you back as soon as I can” Dae Young’s hurried voice called out but Shi Jin was already dressed and ready to go. He was cladded in all black.
-A few hours earlier-
“I can't believe I got caught, this is ridiculous” Yoo Ji murmured as she struggled against the ropes. She just woke up after being knocked out for the night. She looked around and saw that it was a bare room, nothing in it except its bare walls. She had forgotten her radio and they took her phone, she scowled herself for not bringing the radio she could’ve radioed the soldiers for help. Yoo Ji mentally groaned, she even knows her location goddamn it! The doors clicked open and it revealed Agus and the guy that faked being in the UN.
“Hello, Mun Yoo Ji” Agus said to her as he crouched and tilted her head towards him when she refused to look at him.
“You know, this is the third time I’ve been kidnapped, it’s getting old,” she said with a sarcastic tone before glaring at him.
“It wouldn’t happen so much if you minded your own business,” Agus said with a fake frown on his face as he gripped her chin harder.
“I can’t help it, my sense of heroism won’t let me sleep” Yoo Ji retorted back.
“Just like your sense of right and wrong is skewed the wrong direction” she snapped at him, taking him by surprise when she buttheaded him in the head. He winced and glared at her, she smirked back.
“You bitch!” he hissed back, he backhanded her. Yoo Ji spits out the blood collecting in her mouth.
“This is where you’re wrong, no one knows you’re here, no one will come to save you this time” he stated with a sadistic smile.
“This is where the fun begins” he patted her redding cheek. He signaled the brown-haired boy to tape her mouth shut.
“You should tell me your name, I can't keep on calling Fake U.N. guy all the time” Yoo Ji started before he taped her mouth shut and glaring at her. She rolled her eyes at him, he won’t tell her his name then.
They left her room and locked the door. She started working on the knots, they were tighter than she remembers, but that just meant she had to take longer to unravel them. Once she got the knots off, she removed the tape on her mouth and started working on her feet.
“Huh, they changed the guy that ties up their hostages, they’re a lot sturdier” she murmured to herself. She picked the lock with a bobby pin that she had in her pocket. She doesn’t wear bobby pins but she knows how useful they can be in situations like this. She watched the shadows from under the door and made sure she didn't hear anyone outside her door, before opening the door. She checked the hallway. It was empty.
She crept down the hallway trying to find the room they had Mo Yeon or Fatima in. Instead, she stumbled upon a room full of children, she motioned for them to be quiet. She worked on their knots.
“Don’t move or make noises, I will come back for you when I find my friends, okay?” she told them in Arabic, making sure they understood. There was a camera inside the room. She got out one more time but forgot about checking so she was seen by a guard, she was able to disarm him quickly without making too much noise, she didn't knock him out but grabbed his neck.
“Where is Agus keeping the Doctor and Fatima?” she asked harshly, squeezing his neck, making his choke.
“Not here. Not here, they went to meet the Captain” he choked out when she saw how reluctant he was about giving information. She smiled and punched him, knocking him out completely. She grabbed one of the ropes the kids were tied in and tied him up.
“Watch him, make sure he doesn’t escape,” she told the kids and winked at them. She got out again, this time being more careful. She was able to get a good look around when she stumbled upon a room that seemed like the main room that the men hung out in. There were at least 6 there at the moment. She hid her body behind the wall and listened in. they were talking about what they were going to do with the money they get from trafficking the children.
Suddenly she was grabbed from the back and thrown onto the floor, in front of all six men, now seven.
“Oh hey guys, how y’all doing?” she chuckled as she got up. They didn't respond, they just charged without a second thought. She dropped into a crouch and stuck out her leg and tripped two men, then stood up and avoided a punch to her nose.
“Don’t touch the face, it’s the moneymaker, I still need to be able to get married guys” she joked as she grabbed someone’s fist and brought it down to the groundbreaking of his knuckles.
She turned around and quickly ducked to avoid smashing her nose. But she wasn’t able to avoid a punch to the gut. She groaned in pain and quickly elbowed the attacker in the head so he’d knock out. She heaved as the pain slowly spread in her abdomen. Another fist flew towards her and she couldn't avoid it, slowly she gave up trying to fight them and instead she focused on avoiding their attacks.
She couldn't overpower seven grown men and was thrown into her holding cell with knots tights there before. She sighed in pain as her body ached from the fight. She smiled though. While they were distracted she was able to hide a pocket knife in her pants while she was fighting them. She maneuvered to grab it from her back pocket, but pain seared from her shoulder.
“Okay, a break first then I’ll try again” she bit her lip and slumped against the wall. Her erratic breathing was all she could hear. Her mind cleared from her racing thoughts, her breathing started to calm down. She made up her mind, once she hears Agus come back she will get out of the ropes and find Mo Yeon. it would be more effective if she tried to escape and found Mo Yeon immediately instead of wandering around.
Yoo Ji opened her eyes again, groaning, she heard the sound of a car pulling in, he’s back. She heard a bunch of footsteps thundering. The henchmen are going to meet their leader. She winced while moving her shoulder, the pain was there but it wasn’t too bad. She got out the pocket knife and started cutting the rope. She’ll have better luck this time.

Episode 4:
“We have to move the bed” Mo Yeon informed him. The bodyguards told them another warning which Shi Jin ignored.
“From this moment forward, protecting the medical team and the patient is our first and foremost duty” Shi Jin informed the team.
“Team, line up in front of the guns,” he instructed, Dae Young and Gwang Nam moved speedily while Yoo Ji followed Gwang Nam’s tail.
“From now on, I give you permission to shoot any threat that comes our way” Shi Jin commanded.
“You better know exactly what you’re doing” the bald bodyguard, who seemed like he was in charge.
“You do your job, the doctor will save this patient” Shi Jin assured him while lifting one corner of his mouth.
“We’re moving him now” Mo Yeon interrupted their conversation. She gripped the bed and started to push, Shi Jin moved, still pointing the gun at the bald man, they started to rotate their position, until Alpha team stood in between the guards and the medical team.
Mo Yeon looked back to catch Yoo Ji’s eyes, Yoo Ji gave her an assuring head nod, that they’ll be fine.
They were inside the operating room, and the tension outside didn't seem to evaporate but become tenser. Yoo Ji could hear Shi Jin’s superior yelling in the earpiece Gwang Nam had.
“You crazy bastards! Stop right now!” Colonel’s voice seemed to fall on deaf ears. Yoo Ji’s eyes flickered from between Shi Jin to the guard.
“Why isn’t anyone answering me?” his voice sounded with anger, it was the last thing Seo Dae Young heard from the Colonel, he guessed he was making his way to the Medi-Cube to neutralize the situation. Dae Young glanced at Yoo Ji as she watched the men from behind Gwang Nam, Colonel will be furious if he finds out a civilian was put in danger because of the Alpha team not following orders.
“Because of you bastards we’ve been issued an FPCON CHARLIE, anyone that can hear me communicate with Captain Yoo Shi Jin that there will be consequences” Colonel’s voice came in one last time, Dae Young glanced at his friend but said nothing.
Yoo Ji listened as Shi Jin and the bodyguard conversed. She watched their moves like a hawk, her grip still tight on Gwang Nam’s sides. He didn't seem to mind, she was omitting warmth. Shi Jin said something lowkey sarcastic and she couldn't believe that he would do that, sure she would because it’s her but Shi Jin seems to be the type to joke around but when it comes to business he’s serious.
Chi Hoon unlatched the locked door and ran into the supply room. The men never broke eye contact. They heard a distant noise from outside, it seems that the Arab doctor had finally arrived, Yoo Ji felt her fingers relax a little.
Thirty minutes after the doctor had arrived they finally brought out the patient, the Arab doctor immediately checked his vitals and his condition.
“Seems like all of the surgical operations went well,” he said with distaste to Mo Yeon and Sang Hyun as if he wanted them to get in trouble.
“It would’ve been better if I had the right chart” Mo Yeon quipped.
“Well, the patient still needs to wake up to call the surgery a success.” he snapped back, Sang Hyun looked at Mo Yeon with disbelief, Chi Hoon gave out a sigh.
“I’d still be worried if I were you” he added giving them a stink eye.
“If I just sat around and worried and did nothing, you would have a dead body now,”
“He could still die!” he bit back.
It was decided that Song Sang Hyun and the Arab doctor would stay behind and wait for the President to wake up. A little boy that was getting treated from lead poisoning had entered the room without being noticed by the dazed doctors. He said something in his native language, immediately a guard seized him and pushed him back, it was then that Mo Yeon decided to go back from her food break.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
Her question went unanswered as the President had opened his eyes. The Arab doctor quickly went to check if he was responding to light and to his questions, the whole room felt like it released a collective sigh. Sang Hyun and Jae Ae went to get fresh air, they were relieved they weren’t going to die or get sued. To a doctor, getting sued is worse than death. They were with Chi Hoon and Min Ji and that’s how Yoo Ji found them, Sang Hyun laying his head on the table being dramatic while Ha Jae looked at him with disinterest. Chi Hoon and Min Ji just smiled at Yoo Ji.
Everything started settling down, Yoo Ji took this chance to finally chill out and get some writing done in the common room. She reflected on what happened in the last few days. Shi Jin got put under solitary confinement in the storage room, and Dae Young had to leave for Korea. Yoo Ji thought back on how unjust their superior is, she couldn't believe her own country’s leaders were willing to throw Mo Yeon under the bus like that. But then again diplomatic matters and the way they handle politics is way different from her dive-in approach.
Mo Yeon looked in distress, even after the patient woke up, she really was put in such a tense situation. She looked desperate when she asked Yoo Ji if she knew where Dae Young was. Yoo Ji guessed she wanted to speak to Shi Jin. After a few minutes, she returned with puffy red eyes, she weakly smiled at Yoo Ji and went straight to her bunker.
The whole base felt so much lighter once the VIP left, it was a weight on their shoulders they couldn’t shake off.
“How are you feeling?” Gwang Nam examined Yoo Ji, flipping the chair so he would sit on it backward.
“I think I broke my fingers” she responded, flexing her fingers with a grimace, her hand had cramped up from gripping Gwang Nam’s clothes.
“Better break your fingers than get shot in the head” he smiled. Their aura had changed after that tension in the Medi-Cube. She had admitted to herself that he was attractive already, (she would be lying if she didn't) but there was something more. She enjoyed his company, he was very quirky and fun to be around, he was also passionate about his job and friends. Yoo Ji did have some thoughts about what kind of man she would like and every time she imagined him, his image would cultivate to be Gwang Nam’s. This started right after she met him at the bar in Urk. he was kind, observant and loyal.
“I didn't know you spoke Arabic” he stated, leaning forward against the chair. Yoo Ji’s breath caught before she cleared her throat and responded.
“It was faster to learn a language than try to guess what they’re saying” she explained, trying to avoid his gaze.
A part of her felt flattered and almost giddy that he was paying so much attention to her but the bigger and much more logical part of her told her that she didn't want him to figure her out. He was slowly finding out more about her while she got no new information on him other than what she already knows. And he never confirmed all her suspicions, intentionally or not. She felt that it was unfair, so she started pulling up her walls. He can’t find out everything about her while she's still fishing for information about him.
Gwang Nam could tell she got lost in her thoughts, but when she came back, she had a look on her face that made him uneasy. She wouldn’t meet his eyes anymore, he didn't think it was from embarrassment.
“Hey, are you okay? You’ve been really spacey lately” he asked her in concern.
“Oh! uh yeah! I am fine, I just remembered Mo Yeon needed to speak to me” she excused, it was a lie, a bad one too. Gwang Nam wanted to protest but she hurriedly assembled her notebook and laptop and hurried towards the rooms. Gwang Nam said there for a couple more minutes, he expected Yoo Ji to be a better liar, and she is, which baffled him. She didn't even go through with her lie, she went the opposite way of Mo Yeon’s room.
Woo Geun and Cheol Ho walked into the common room to get a snack.
“Why are you sitting alone?” Woo Geun asked the pensive man sitting down.
“I think… I just made Yoo Ji blush” he paused before looking at his friend with a spark in his eyes.
“No way!” Cheol Ho wheezed.
The next day, she sat down in the same place and started writing again, when the boys came in with a commotion.
“What’s going on?”
“They’re releasing Captain Yoo,”
“Why?” she questioned. Deliberately avoiding eye contact with Gwang Nam, he watched her as she squirmed under his gaze. He didn't know if he could get used to a shy Yoo Ji.
“They’re claiming that the surgery never happened, they’re deleting any evidence of it” Gwang Nam answered.
“Which means that he can’t be punished over something he didn't do” Kibum gleamed. Yoo Ji smiled at the younger boy’s excitement.
“Aw, man! That means I can’t post the article I wrote yesterday” she groaned, peeking at their reactions. It was hilarious, she had figured that the two leaders and Cheol Ho, Woo Geun and Gwang Nam were in the special forces, and that means that they can’t be exposed to the public.
“You did what?” Woo Geun asked; if Yoo Ji was anyone other than herself, she would’ve been intimidated by him. Even then she felt a small pang of fear, she swallowed it.
“I am kidding, of course, I didn’t” she rolled her eyes as she saw the boys sigh in relief.
“They won’t know its true if I say it's fiction” she winked. Gwang Nam fake glared at her, which made her blush. She was scolding herself in her head when Kibum caught her attention.
“I plan to make him a celebratory dinner, want to help?” he excitedly asked Yoo Ji. she nodded and cleaned up her stuff, she’ll do anything to get her mind off of the tall man behind her and the horrible thoughts that soon accompany them.
A few hours later and instead of dinner, they prepared a feast. Shi Jin was lead to the dining room and sat down on the chair.
“What is this?” Shi Jin stared at the food in disbelief.
“It’s to celebrate your release” Ki Bum beamed.
“None of you stopped this? Huh?”
“You spent two days in prison” Kibum continued trying to explain himself. Yoo Ji had to hold herself from bursting out in laughter, she did let out a small snort. Shi Jin looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
“You think this is funny?”
“Hilarious” she responded cheekily.
“She helped him” Woo Geun informed Shi Jin
“Tattletale” Yoo Ji fake hissed. Woo Geun shook his head and brought out a protein snack.
“You two were just saved by Sergeant Choi right now:” Shi Jin fake scolded.
Shi Jin broke his serious facade and let an easy smile grace his face as he spoke to his team, congratulating them for doing a good job at being collected when things were going crazy. He told them to enjoy their meal, the soldiers started cheering, making Yoo Ji smile at their rowdiness.
Mo Yeon’s loud steps were heard as she hurried over to the dining room to stop right in the middle and catch all 15 soldiers and Yoo Ji’s attention. She froze and looked like a deer caught in the headlights. It was hilarious.
She turned around and went to walk back, Shi Jin stopped asking her where she was going when she just arrived.
“Aren’t you here to see me?” he examined her facial expressions.
“Later! Enjoy your meal” she squeaked, trying to make her not-so-swift exit.
“No, we can talk now” he made his way towards her and led her outside, she glanced back and noticed Yoo Ji grinning at her and 14 soldiers looking at her with smiles on her face. Yoo Ji thought she should make her exit now since she didn't have anything to distract her from the soldier staring straight at her soul.
They go to the city and he gets the call about his friend’s death and then they go back to the base and its the next morning when Mo Yeon asks about Shi Jin about it and goes to look for him at the main base and they get into a fight.
Yoo Ji knew that the soldiers start their morning run around 4:30 in the morning and end at 6:00 so she planned to use that time to get some writing and some articles edited. She made her favorite drink, coffee with chocolate. Weird combination, she knows but it was two of her favorite things combined and they helped her wake up in the morning with a nice caffeinated sugar rush.
She knew he wouldn’t be able to distract her and neither would the girls from the medical team since they were too busy ogling at the shirtless soldiers.
Yoo Ji sighed as she hit another plot hole, she was in a beautiful country that provided so much inspiration and creativity and yet she was hitting a writer’s block at every corner, it didn't help she wasn’t getting enough sleep either because of her nightmares.
“You’ve been staring at the computer screen for 10 minutes” Gwang Nam’s voice pointed from behind her. Her eyes darted to the top right of the screen to check the time, 5:45, well damn, she thought she had more time. She cleared her throat and gave a small sarcastic smile.
“I am meditating” Yoo Ji snapped
“Really?” he smiled squinting his eyes at her, her face looked more pale, her eyes had dark bags underneath them.
“No…but this is helping,” she said, taking a sip from her cup, rolling her eyes at his teasing.
“What is it?” he questioned.
“Coffee with chocolate and sprinkled little marshmallows on top” she described her deliciously diabetic drink
“Sounds bizarre” he scrunched his nose, Yoo Ji shrugged and offered her cup to him.
“Try it,” she notices, he was really close to her, he was sitting next to her. He shook his head. Yoo Ji shrugged again, trying to seem nonchalant but inside she was very jittery, the drink doing its job and Gwang Nam’s proximity making her feel as if she just chugged a red bull with whiskey, which isn’t far from her mixed drink.
“Your loss” He raises an eyebrow at her and leans closer, lifting her chin with his index and brushing his lips against hers. Light, breezy. Calm, unlike her beating heart. He pulled back and licked his lips.
“Too sweet” he scrunches his nose.
“Are you sure? Have another taste” Yoo Ji’s quiet voice cut through the silence. Gwang Nam thought she would hit him, to be honest, but he was glad she said that because he was going to do that anyway.
She turned to face him and inched closer, he wasn't lying, the drink was too sweet but her lips were heavenly.
Yoo Ji was so shocked her brain literally threw her rational part of the brain, she literally thought, ‘Nope you’re gone, this feels too good to keep denying it’. She saw Gwang Nam’s surprise and felt a pang of fear, but as soon as he smiled and leaned in again that feeling dissipated.
He tasted of mint, his hot breath fanned against her face. He was slightly sweaty from his morning run, but he didn't smell.
They made out for a few more minutes when they realixzed that they were still in the common room, where anyone could walk in on them. Yoo Ji chuckled nervously, not believing she just made out with Gwang Nam. She backed away and scurried back to her room, leaving Gwang Nam once again in shock. She just ran away from him… again.
Yoo Ji scolded herself for not thinking this through and she knew she won’t be able to sleep at all that night, her nerves are all jumbled up and the headaches would start soon.

Episode 8:
The soldiers started another day of rescuing the injured, so far there are still 3 people that are missing, Shi Jin and Dae Young started working finding them, they were able to find a person and Shi Jin stayed with him while Dae Young restocked on necessary supplies. But the site collapsed even more because manager Jin started using the excavator to get to his office for his important documents, putting both the survivor and Captain Shi Jin’s lives in danger.
Woo Geun kicked the manager off of the excavator while Gwang Nam held him captive so he wouldn't escape.
“ I've caught the crazy bastard, ” he said angrily into the earpiece.
Dae Young went back inside and he was able to reach them, Mo Yeon thought Shi Jin died but he was alright. Shi Jin laid down on a stretcher and demanded Mo Yeon to treat him.
Manager Jin yelled out to let him go as Dae Young made his way out. Yoo Ji just turned around the corner to talk to Mo Yeon about a patient when the man started yelling again.
“ Everyone is fine! Then everything should be okay now, right? ” Manager Jin rudely shouted. Dae Young looked ready to kill, he took off his harness and dropped it to the floor and quickly crossed the small distance between himself and the civilian and decked him so hard he fell to the floor.
“ You’re so dead! ” Dae Young shouted, trying to fight against Woo Geun, while Gwang Nam held the sputtering manager. Everyone immediately started chuckling as it was the one thing everyone wanted to do to him since they got there.
“You are my idol” Yoo Ji spoke out to Dae Young who was slowly calming down.
“I’ve wanted to do that since he opened his mouth two days ago” she calmly stated as she rounded the corner and looked at the captain.
“If you put yourself in danger one more time, I’ll make sure that I am the only danger that you need to be scared of” Yoo Ji threatened Captain Yoo. His only reaction was to laugh it off and lay back down.
Mo Yeon was extremely calm about the whole situation and Yoo Ji noticed and knew that she would explode once they went back to the Medi-cube.
Once she made it back to the base, she went to the common room to get a snack. She noticed the Lieutenant Colonel was making his way to the Medi-cube, so she dropped the food in her hand and started following him. He can't seriously punish his soldiers for doing their jobs.
“Where do you think you're doing?” Gwang Nam’s amused voice asked from behind her.
“I must fight for justice” she answered, he laughed as he put an arm around her shoulders.
“Seriously your superior is an asshole,” she told him truthfully.
“Where have you met my supervisor?” he raised an eyebrow.
“That's not important, but it seems like his favorite pastime is to punish the wrong people,” she shrugged.
“You're lucky I turned off my radio before I came here, or you would be in serious trouble.” He scrunched his nose at her.
“I don't really care if he hears me,” she shrugged. A few minutes later she saw Woo Geun, Dae Young, and Shi Jin carrying their full gear and jogging. Gwang Nam turned on his radio.
“They had to run 100 laps,” Gwang Nam answered the question on the tip of Yoo Ji’s tongue.
“This assho-”
“The radio is on” Gwang Nam interrupted. Finally, the cell service was back and Yoo Ji’s phone started going off.
“I have to talk to my supervisor now” Yoo Ji groaned and tilted her head back.
“Don't accidentally insult him” Gwang Nam teased. She rolled her eyes as she made the quick call.
“What do you think they are doing right now?” Yoo Ji wondered.
“Why do you always focus on those around you then on yourself?” Gwang Nam asked.
“Mic test. Check, one, two.” Daniel’s voice cut through the whole building.
“Because my life is boring and it's great to be in other people’s business, let’s go and see” she held his hand and dragged him out of the room and into the one that Doctor Daniel and Mo Yeon are in.
“Excuse me, I need to go check on some of the patients” Mo Yeon excused herself, but she looked at Yoo Ji and mouthed ‘explain later’ with a pointed look at her closeness with Gwang Nam.
A few minutes passed and Shi Jin walked in instead.
“ What's the next song? ”
“ I don't know, it's Doctor Kang that made the selection ” Daniel responded.
“ If I had known that I would die in a foreign country, I would have lived a carefree life instead of focusing on becoming a professor. ” Mo Yeon’s weeping voice cut through the night air like a knife.
“ Yoo Si Jin, are you on your way?... You are not coming. You are not coming. I don't think I can last until you get here. Even so, you will be the first to find me if I die. ”
“ However, if I knew I would die like this, then I would have told you my true feelings. I got kissed by an amazing man. My heart was continually fluttering because of that. ” she continued, as she cried.
Shi Jin was smiling to himself now while Doctor Daniel was chuckling. Yoo Ji looked at Gwang Nam with a pointed look.
“ This is what I mean” she whispered to him. He grinned at her.

Episode 2:
Yoo Ji arrives at the hospital with a purpose this time. She has to tell Mo Yeon and her friends that she’s leaving to volunteer in Urk, a city on the other side of the world, she has no idea when she’ll come back but this isn't the first time so they shouldn’t be too surprised.
“Hey! Have you seen Mo Yeon?” she caught Chi Hoon, he shook his head no. he checked the board behind him.
“Oh, she should be coming out of the operation room. Come, I need to talk to her anyway,” he fidgeted as he nervously smiled. She glanced down and back up to his face.
“You lost your ring again” she stated, his eyes widened.
“Don’t tell Hae Eun!” he blurted out, she chuckled and promised she wouldn’t. He led her towards the room. They found Mo Yeon with Hae Eun.
Chi Hoon gave Hae Eun a really bad excuse for her to leave, as soon as she was out of sight he started looking through the laundry basket.
“He lost his ring again” Yoo Ji explained to a confused Mo Yeon. she then rolled her eyes.
“Again!?” she groaned. She glared at the anxious boy.
“Clench your jaw” she muttered, faking a jab at him. He smiled clenching his jaw before making his escape.
“I hope he grows up a little faster.” Mo Yeon murmured to Yoo Ji. she nodded and observed her doctor friend.
“Did you need me for something? I was going to take a quick nap before I do my rounds.” Mo Yeon sighed, she looked exhausted.
“I am leaving for volunteer work in two days,” Yoo Ji told her. She never beat around the bush.
“They need help covering the area and I am the only one available right now,” she explained.
“I thought you were covering the Park Ree Kim case?” Mo Yeon mentioned Yoo Ji’s case, she was at Haesun, getting treated for heart disease. Yoo Ji was tailing the doctor, to get information.
“They’re replacing me with a rookie reporter, besides it was the son” she waved off.
“I still don’t know why you choose to be a reporter when you could be a private investigator” Mo Yeon shook her head at how peculiar her friend was.
“I like writing the reports” Yoo Ji sarcastically replied. She soon had to leave to pack and get her stuff sorted out with the embassy. She bid goodbyes to all her friends.

“I noticed ever since we came back from Haesung, you’ve been too quiet” Shi Jin questioned the tranquil man.
“You think he fell in love with Mun Yoo Ji?” Dae Young teased.
“Probably, he’s never seen a girl fight before” Shi Jin teased, laughing as he got shoved by Gwang Nam who was getting flustered.
“Shut up”

Yoo Ji explored the area well, she almost got every crook of the town that wasn’t dangerous to the public. Of course, she wasn’t scared she just didn't want to get on the U.S.’s bad side as they were leading the bases here.
She went to a bar by the seaside. She met this bartender that was peculiar, you can get anything there. But Valentine, the bartender, had a rule. ‘We don’t sell women or information here’ Yoo Ji loved to challenge that, and she’s only been here for a week.
There wasn't much to do here for a reporter, she was mostly covering the political debate between Urk and the U.S. but that was going very slow, and everyone is being careful so there’s not as much fun as her usual cases.
“Hey Val,” Yoo Ji greeted in English.
“Ji, you’re here again, it’s the fifth time this week.” Val scoffed with mild annoyance.
“I wouldn't be here if you would just give me what I need” Yoo Ji reminded her.
“The rule” Val stated with no room for leniency.
“Well then, I’ll just have a dry martini” Yoo Ji admitted silent defeat for the day.
“It's one in the afternoon” Val raised an eyebrow.
“It's happy hour somewhere,” Yoo Ji muttered.
-Eight months later-
The Korean army found an active land mine, they were instructed by Yoo Shi Jin to disarm the active ones. Of course, Shi Jin and Dae Young got called to the main base to be disciplined for not following the correct orders and letting the US Army deal with it.
Gwang Nam was tasked with driving them there, he dropped them off and went to hang out in the bar that's near the base.
He pulled up and went inside. He sat by the bar and ordered a drink, he was planning on waiting for Shi Jin and Dae Young and then leaving when they finish.
But his thought process was halted when his eyes were drawn to the door, and a familiar girl walked in. she didn't seem to notice him and sat a few seats away from him. He figured she was used to military men being around here considering how close this bar was to their base.
She called the bartender, and Gwang Nam noticed that they were on a first-name basis. The bartender whose name he heard was Val, seemed used to the girl’s tendencies.
Gwang Nam couldn't get over his shock of seeing Yoo Ji, the strange girl he met back in Korea at the hospital Ki Bum was getting treated at. His mouth was flopped open, he couldn't believe the odds.
Finally, Yoo Ji seemed to feel someone’s gaze on her, she turned and couldn't help but feel shock radiate through her body. She didn't let it consume her though, she quickly recovered and gave him a knowing smile. She hopped off her seat and plopped right next to him.
“Hey, we met in Korea, right? Mo Yeon tried to call the police on your friend” her smile grew at the ridiculousness of her friend.
“Yeah,” Gwang Nam swallowed and gave her a small smile.
“You’re probably wondering why am I here” Yoo Ji speculated from the curious look on his face.
“If you don't mind sharing” he responded.
“I am a reporter, I am covering the political debate. What about you soldier?” she grinned.
“I’ve been deployed here for the last 8 months” he vaguely ghosted over exactly what he’s doing here. He couldn't exactly tell her that he was on ‘break’ from his ‘special’ job.
“You’re a First Sergeant, probably involved in Special Forces” Yoo Ji deduced. They don’t deploy any soldiers here, it was a magnet for hostage kidnappings. Gwang Nam had to hide his surprise or he’ll lose his job.
“But you know, you don't strike me as a special forces agent” she saw the hooded look in his eyes, he was probably going to stay silent, his way of not confirming nor denying; but now she made a hit to his ego and pride. To Yoo Ji, she knew that military men have a huge pride problem. Especially those who went voluntarily, she saw the small fire ignite in his eyes. Yoo Ji also noticed that he was trained well, he was trained to not lie but to not tell the whole truth, which is much more efficient. Beats the polygraph test seven times out of ten.
“That’s what makes me good at it” he teased. Yoo Ji felt her eyebrow raise. He didn't deny it but he didn't outright tell her. He left enough space for her to wonder if she’s right or not. She quietly approved. usually, they would crack under her pressure.
Their stare off was interrupted when two more men joined their section.
“Ready to go?” Dae Young asked from behind the girl Gwang Nam was conversing with.
“Captain and Deputy Leader” Yoo Ji addressed turning around with a smirk. Shi Jin overreacted and put a hand to his chest, while Dae young gave her an amused smile.
“Cool girl! What are you doing here?” Shi Jin questioned as he gave her a side hug.
“I knew you liked me but you didn't have to follow me halfway around the world” Dae Young deadpanned, causing Yoo Ji and Gwang Nam to roll their eyes at Dae Young’s dry sense of humor.
“As if, I am here on special reporter business that I can’t tell you about” she twisted her words and made eye contact with Shi Jin. Yoo Ji was trying to see if he got what she’s trying to do. He did.
“Mo Yeon told you” it was a statement.
“Just because I am halfway around the world, doesn't mean I don’t know what’s going on with my friends.”
“Well, then you should know she’s coming to Urk next week” Dae Young informed her. That she didn't know, Mo Yeon didn't mention that. The last thing she mentioned was that the Chairman asshole tried to sleep with her.
She didn't mention that to Shi Jin, she wanted to see his reaction when Mo Yeon tells him herself, now that she’s coming.
Yoo Ji excused herself telling them she had to go to her boss and report back on some work she had done prior to meeting them.
Turns out, Yoo Ji’s boss was looking for volunteers to stay at the Taebaek Unit to cover an issue on how the Korean military sustains in foreign countries. They were allowed by the Korean military and had to be careful about what they write, and so the boss wanted to find the best person that would do so. She was set to move in later in the week.
